Cute small coffee shop with unique hippie seating furniture in a nook area like once you enter the shop. Drinks are average prices, indifferent about the tastes. They also serve salads/sandwiches so it’s a nice quiet place to do homework and eat your meals. A couple round tables that served great when I was there doing group projects. They have couches too for relaxing time. Good ambience once you leave the main section of the shop though, which is small, has 2 small tables and looks a bit camped and doesn’t seem to go with the other cuter section of the shop. Restroom is randomly on the back porch and requires you to walk through the kitchen area/pass the counter. Great music selection!

sorta sour and just not good. i’ve tried many other coffee shops elsewhere and this place just isnt that good. I guess its not a bad place to hang out while you wait for Screendoor, but I suggest you try stumptown instead.

Stopped in here for a quick snack, got a bagel with cream cheese. In the back there are couches and chairs with tables to lounge about and read newspaper and such. Great spot to be social!

This place was adorable. Super small and cozy when you walk in, but don’t be deceived… They have a downstairs area that is larger(only by a bit) with comfy couches, tables/chairs, outlets, chess game table, etc. Very cute. Some small outside tables too, which is nice. The barista was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a pumpkin-spice latte(my fave) and asked for less sweetness than usual. She made it perfectly. Also got a veggie bagel sandwich. Was very good. People were in and out(I was there for about two hours) but was never too crowded. Great little place on Burnside!

I moved to Portland not long ago, and I’m so happy I live within a stroll of Green Beans. All the employees are super friendly and kind. The coffee is good and the breakfast sandwiches are delicious. I know Portland has a lot of «hip» coffee shops, but I like they home-y vibe of Green Beans. They have a great room down a few steps with comfy couches to work on your notebook computer. I’m really happy about this beautiful little find.

I’m absolutely in love with this little café. I dare to call it a «hole in the wall” — it is sort of small and goes easily unnoticed but has so many amazing things stuffed inside. I just moved to the area and was looking for the«coffee spot», and this is definitely it. It’s super inexpensive and the outdoor seating means I can bring the dog for a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich in the morning. Free wifi. Local kombucha. Vegetarian breakfast options. There are so many reasons to find yourself in Green Beans. Personally, I dig the ambiance– good tunes always pumpin’, cute décor and super friendly staff. It seems like it’s always a one-woman show behind the counter and this girl kills it. She’s professional, timely and cheery in the least annoying way possible… she actually kind of makes me want to smile, too, regardless of it being 9 am. The couches and chairs in this place give it such a homey feel. I could just bring a book and my laptop and sit for hours, enjoying the finely curated playlist and fresh, organic juices. I highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area looking for a cold drink or a great locally made pastry. Or hey, even if you’re not in the area– make the trip. It’ll be worth it.

If I lived in Portland I would definitely be a regular here. Prices were better than I’m used to. Small looking entrance, one door and one window but it is like the Tardis once you are in, it’s bigger on the inside. The lone barista was great and helpful, answered all my «Where is ?» questions I could throw at her. Loved the little living room a couple of steps down and the available bathroom was quite handy. Was in Portland for a work trip and just wanted a quiet little place to enjoy great coffee and this was it. Was lucky to get there and grab and parking spot and a seat right outside so it was nice. I did wonder at the popularity of the restaurant next door(Screen Door) that people would wait for, but not being from here and along as they stayed down there it was not too disturbing. I was a nice way to start my day not in the hotel. If I go back I know I will definitely try to find this place again.

Quite possibly my favorite coffee place in Portland, which is saying a lot. Such a great chill atmosphere packed in a little place with a surprise basement. You will be asked how you are doing and at this place the barista really means it. Great fancy drinks but a plain black coffee taste great(they serve Water Avenue Coffee). Food is good too but a simple Jalapeño bagel with cream cheese makes me happy. Great place for relaxing, working, reading, or making new friends(draws a sometimes talkative and unique crowd). A sign outside reads, «As Portland as it gets» and it’s certainly true when it comes to authentic people, kind atmospheres, and good drinks/eats.

Imagine you’re having a great, dreamy Sunday hanging out with your boyfriend. It’s just you, him, the dog, and the mellowness of it all… But you need more, you need some protein, you need to not collapse from blood sugar craziness! All you’ve had all morning is some vegan cheesecake, yummy, yes, but not going to keep that bod stable. So the boy suggests going to Green Beans, his favorite local coffee stop in his ‘hood. It was really enjoyable. One minor annoyance is that the people waiting to get into Screen Door for brunch like to stand under Green Beans awning, so there’s a big crowd in front, even if the coffeehouse itself isn’t crowded. But that’s not Green Beans fault. Once inside, I felt sorry for the one woman working as it was getting crowded and she was having to run like a banshee. Still, she managed to remain really professional and quick, which was impressive. I had some mint herbal tea, which came in a nice pot and was good. I also decided to try a smoked turkey sandwich on gluten free bread and it was yumm-oh! This wasn’t any ordinary sammie, really great turkey and really fresh veggies. I’d really love to know which brand of gluten free bread they use as it was really, really tasty. My boyfriend is a big fan of their lattes. The atmosphere is very casual, fun and indie Portland. We felt very cozy and comfortable, and headed out very happy on a gray Sunday afternoon.

Great place to grab a quick cup of coffee. I ordered a latte and it was one of the better ones that I have had. This being Portland that is a strong statement! The inside has a great sitting area that looks great for enjoying a book or playing chess.

I tired one as their coffees and it was pretty standard. What I love about this place is that it’s super cozy with a cool vibe, eclectic(stole Sean K’s word) décor, and it’s like hanging out in someone’s living room! They have plenty of tables and I think a few couches and free wi-fi and people are either on their computers or reading. Overall, I would totally come back to study or work if I lived in Portland!

Ok. not gonna lie… i ended up here solely as I was waiting in line for Screen Door, but I’m sooooo glad I did. :) The place has a very cool vibe about it, with an eclectic set up. The Barista was super friendly and warm– but even more important she was fast and efficient. We shot the shit while she made our drinks. She made you feel like there was no line behind you. I like that. Our hot chocolates were very well made and yummy. They make their own whip cream — kinda like Starbucks and it was finger lickin’ good. We didn’t try any if their food as we were waiting in line next door. BUT we will totally be back for some of their offerings. They offer up a pretty impressive line up of breakfast foods and small plates. Not to mention pastry yummies.

Great place to sit, wait and get caffeinated before brunch at screen door! They have a wide variety of drinks and some snacks! Also free wifi! Always a plus! I got the raspberry iced tea and the bf got a coffee! Both pretty standard.

I stopped by here for some tea because we were in the long line for Screen Door next door. I definitely loved the homey feel that came with this place. There’s a reading room decked out old arm chairs and couches for you to sit down and enjoy a good book. Since I just had some tea, its not much to go by, but my friend got a cold brew which was good but nothing spectacular. Our barista was definitely a sweet girl and really pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place if you wanted to quench your thirst before feasting next door!

Great selection of food, coffee & tea. Good use of a small space for chairs & tables. Fun music in the background but not too loud. Friendly baristas! Great little coffee shop, happens to be next door to a busy restaurant so if there’s a long wait, come here to relax & wait.

On a cold Saturday morning, I was waiting over an hour to eat at the Screen Door. Next door, is this place… a quintessential, Portland coffee shop with one barista and iced coffee served in jars. I got a vanilla, peppermint soy latte, the special and it was too sweet but kept me warm. My sister loved her chai!

While having to wait an hour and a half for screen door, my friends and I noticed this conveniently located coffee shop right next to it. Service is slow but drinks are very tasty. I got a soy chai and you can double with spicy and sweet. Which I thought was nice. The drink was very nice. My boyfriend got the white mocha and that was especially smooth and tasty. They also offer sandwiches and pastries! I’m so happy we found this place while waiting to be seated in screen door. It made my wait a lot more enjoyable.

Green Beans is just cute, elegant, and funky all rolled into one. Every time I think I’ve seen it all, this city just keeps surprising me with it’s can-do DIY mentality. I love it. Case in point. You take a nice old Victorian home on lower Burnside that needs some TLC(don’t they all though), and say ya know what? Let’s open up the basement and stick an awesome coffee place with good food in it. Not a bad plan for a city like ours. I had the iced chai. Now let’s get this right. I wasn’t going to have it. I was waiting with the rest of the crowd for Screen Door to open, and I see this sign and think, oh cool, a little coffee shop. My friends knew it better, and bought me the chai. I was hesitant, then after a sip I realized this is only the best one I’ve ever had. Even on their worst day Lord Starbuck would kiss the Green Bean ring. I should listen to my friends more. Can’t wait to eat there. Impressive menu for such a small place, very veggie friendly, and doesn’t lean on store bought«heat ‘em ups» that seem so prevalent in a lot of places. One thing I appreciate is old fashioned service with a smile, and you can tell that they understand that a positive attitude makes for a great atmosphere. I’m sure we all have been to those places where that just isn’t the case. So, take all that, add in a cool living room with all the books, Wi-Fi, stay awhile furniture, and you got one very happy new customer in me. I can’t say this most places, but even a visit to the restroom is a fun experience, check it out!
