With so many roasters to love in portland, Trailhead really makes their mark, by roasting incredible coffee that ranks right up there with the best, and imo just might be the very best. Their shop is great too, has good space, great food– the toast and avocado is amazing, and their trail theme kind of sets them apart as a shop. Along with all of those positives they serve beer and even had Pallet Jack on draft, which is a quality IPA to go along with all of the other great things they offer!

Best macchiato I’ve ever had, made with chilled foam & care. No prices — pay what you like(I paid $ 3). Yamaha Keyboard & chalk also available in small seating area

Okay so the location is a little tricky, but that’s because… it wasn’t supposed to be a café originally! hah! I discovered Trailhead roasters from Whole Foods… yeah I know. The bag of glory was sitting alongside many big names like Stumptown, Nostra Familia, etc. Why did I pick an unknown roaster? Because the beans were so intoxicatingly fragrant I literally could not pass them up. Plus they ride bikes to get the coffee and its all female growers! How neat! Anyways, I have been addicted to Trailhead’s Guatemala roast ever since. I dislike any other brand in the stores now. It has ruined me forever! But in a good way ;) The café is super cute and its cool to see the location where they roast and package all their beans. The lady at the front did a beautiful pour over for us of the Guatemala and it was pure heaven. If you are in the area and need a great cup of coffee, give this place a try. It’s worth every penny — which isn’t much at all. Cheaper than Starbucks *gasp* Only tip I would leave is to get different to-go cups… the bumpy outside lets the coffee squeak past the lid barrier and it spills down the sides, a little messy!

Refreshingly unhip, good coffee. The café is more of an opportunity to get a fresh cup of coffee from the source — in the garage-like roastery. The guys who run the place seem like they’re into biking, hiking, and camping. They brew a full menu of pour-over coffee options(including decaf) via Hario v60 filter cone. The cup was ok, but this review is really about the beans: I had read this place roasts coffee medium, which is darker than what a lot of the new hip generation roasters are doing. I’m always seeking a quality medium roast and this place delivered. I bought a bag of single origin Guatemala beans. They are roasted true medium. This is the highest quality medium roasted Guatemala coffee I’ve ever had. In the Bay Area, new generation roasters roast single origin coffee very light — almost to a fault– sometimes great, but sometimes overly fruity and thin. This is likely a reaction to the older generation roasting coffee so dark that they char all of the flavor out of the beans, reducing them to smokey ashes. I often want rich, chocolatey, classic tasting coffee, but with the distinct flavor of a single origin and the freshness + quality of a good small roaster. Seems simple enough, but it’s hard to find where I live. Trailhead nails this with their Guatemalan beans.

Randomly stopped by this shop when I was in the area. Grabbed a cup of cold brew coffee and a bag of beans to go. The coffee was good the barista was nice enough to steam me some simple syrup for sweetener. She also told me of some of the coffees that they were featuring. The to-go beans have been great. I bought the espresso blend and it is delicious. Nutty but not burnt I would put this coffee against other of Portland’s finest. I am just getting back to brewing my own coffee and so this bag will last me a little longer, but rest assured I will be back for another in the near future. I returned the other day to buy more beans… the service was as great as the first time. I had some time so they walked me through other roasts. I ended up getting a couple of different roasts and have enjoyed them both. Nice relaxed location, good vibe, what coffee should be like.

Stopped in as part of our never-ending quest for brilliant coffee and were not disappointed. We had pourovers that were divine. Funky little shop tucked away inside a building but well worth seeking out. Super friendly staff that made us feel very welcome. It was fun to watch them work around us while we enjoyed the brew as the space is a workshop as much as a tasting room. Do it!

Have been buying trailhead sunbreak in stores for some time. I would equate this place to a beer«tasting room» but with coffee instead. Got a dual ‘flight’ of 2 distinct pour overs to compare. Owner was very approachable and informative about the different beans. Word to snackers… limited snacks.

Visit Trailhead! At first you walk in and you can see that everything they are doing is an experiment. The coffee is delicious and supports women farmers and their business model is environmentally responsible. The owner is super friendly and will chat with you and it seems to be an environment conducive to community and deep thinking. Very happy that this place exists.

YES!!! Portland’s BEST coffee. Where should I start? How about their dedication to always supporting women farmers? Awesome. Or the fact that ALL local deliveries are done BYBIKE!!! Yes, by bike. And most of all, the coffee is AMAZING! There are too many good things to say about Trailhead. They are super friendly and have a passion for coffee. When not working(roasting coffee, pedaling cargo bikes around the city to deliver coffee, etc.) these guys are probably either spending time with loved ones, or umm… drinking coffee or riding their bikes. That or sleeping(dreaming about coffee and riding their bikes). Truly a great company that cares a GREAT deal about the quality of their beans and the quality of life of the farmers that grow them. Not to mention their passion for cycling(I hear they may even have a cycling team now). If you haven’t tried their coffee yet, do yourself a favor, check out their website to find a location, then go get yourself a cup from one of the fine cafes that serve their coffee(Café Destino, Café Velo, etc.) or go and pick up a bag from a store that carries their coffee(New Seasons, Little Green Grocer, some Whole Foods, etc.). .and no. I don’t work for Trailhead. But I do love their coffee.
