This place is closed for good. The food was terribly overpriced and .meh. at best. They didn’t actually make anything from scratch. Their naan was a packaged naan that you can get at the grocery store and their chicken tikka masala was 3 tenders with LOTS of onions and green peppers. Glad this place is closed.

Granted, the outside isn’t much to look at but what’s inside is what counts. The menu was plentiful and the food was delicious. the staff was kind, clean, and efficient. My food was cooked quickly and deliciously warm when I ate it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoy this type of food.

Super impressed to find Brit-Indi /Middle Eastern in Portland! Ordered: Mushroom Pakora; Masala w/chicken; Hummus & Naan. All terrific — except the mushroom pakora — chickpea breading sounds amazing but was dry and overwhelmed the mushrooms. Not to worry, we stuck them in the masala, which was brimming with fresh herbs. Also: their site says they are not open Sundays, but they definitely are, and they definitely saved my hungover day.

Haggarty’s is definitely our go to take out place. It’s definitely not fancy, but the food is great. It was originally owned by a Scottish guy, but then he sold it to a middle eastern family, and I haven’t been able to tell the difference. They’ve added some middle eastern items to their menu, which I think is a good mix with Brit-Indi cuisine. The new owners are very friendly, like the first guy. Overall, great food and friendly staff. The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is that we had some trouble getting a hold on the phone with them. Other than that, this place is great for take out on a Friday night.

This place has been rising in the ranks of Portland take out cuisine in my book. I’ve had pretty limited exposure to Indian/Brit-Indi food in my day so I don’t have much to compare it to but I’m always satisfied with the meals there. My go-to has been the chicken korma. It’s a creamy curry coconut sauce(say that three times fast) that soaks well into a heaping mound of rice. Wicked flavorful bub. I’m also a fan of their appetizer platter. Most of the menu is naturally gluten free. The one complaint that I do have with them is their lack of communication on their website. We have tried to order a couple times when they said they were open on the web but turned out to be closed.

I just… like this place. I don’t have any particularly good reasons, I just enjoy coming here. We always walk(about a mile) to get our food to-go from here. The men who run this place are really friendly, and the place itself is cute. Of the food, the falafel sandwich really stands out for me. We have tried 4 curries off of the indian menu, and enjoyed all of but it’s by no means the best Indian in town. The food is pricey, but the portions are enormous. If you can control yourself, you can easily get two dinners out of one curry. Sandwiches are cheaper than other things, so that’s always an option. amazing baklava!

Totally delicious food, but a bit pricey overall. We honestly didn’t realize this place existed until recently, but I’m glad we found it.

I could kill my boyfriend’s old roommate for introducing me to this place, only because I think I crave chicken masala more than anything these days. It’s definitely a hole in the wall, but great for pick up. Delivery has been fine but it can be a bit slow and they do have a delivery charge(seems to waiver between $ 3 and $ 5). One recommendation: I think you get more bang for your buck if you order the chicken tikka masala vs. the chicken masala. When you order the chicken tikka masala you get a container with grilled chicken skewers, a huge bowl of masala sauce, and a large container of rice. If you just get the chicken masala they give you the same amount of sauce with chunks of chicken already in it and the rice on the side. The point is, I think they skimp you on the meat sometimes – if you order the chicken tikka masala you always get a full container of grilled chicken which you can just dump right into the delectable sauce. My boyfriend always gets the lamb jalfrezi which I’d also highly recommend. The naan is pretty standard – nothing to write home about. If you’re a masala fan, I’m certain you’ll be pleased. And you can always get at least two meals out of each dish :)

My favorite take out. Ask for a vindalooo if you like the spicy! —- Well that was my take before it changed hands. Not pointing any fingers but the new owners aren’t native to the cuisine. The quality has gone down. Previously it was my favorite treat.

I have been eating here since they opened. I always get beef marsala as I love it. It is very fresh. I get 3 meals out of the one order(middle aged woman). I don’t notice any difference since the new owners took over. It tastes EXACTLY the same! I have had much Indian food home cooked by India Indians and I think this is the best in Portland.

Mixed platter of veggie pakora, chicken pakora, and mushroom pakora, as well as chicken chaat was very good. The pakora are deep fried in a spicy chickpea batter but isn’t intensely spicy. Just a nice kick that keeps the tastebuds alert. The meat on the chicken chaat, marinated in a spiced yogurt and char-grilled, was tender and flavorful. I had the chicken tikka patia on the recommendation of my sister. The patia was a sauce made of pureed mango, tomato and lemon juice with a ginger and garlic base. Sweet, salty, and tangy… so good. My sister ordered the same while my brother-in-law ordered the chicken tikka malasa, which was also excellent. This is one of their regular takeout places and I can see why. I also tried a piece of their baklava and it was good. I’d love to try more of their Middle Eastern foods like the shawarma, falafel, or Iraqi beef kabobs. Next time!

Helllllooo people — there’s a reason it’s not Haggarty’s Indian Food. It’s Brit-Indi and there IS a slight difference. The British influences are there, so expect them. Great food, nice people working… HUGE portions. My husband and I got some pakora and masala and some naan. All were good, I loved that the rice had some minor flavor to it with spices. I would totally go back…

There is much better Indian food in the Portland area. This place has small portions, very little meat in each meal, and a limited selection. Given how the front area looks, I cannot believe the kitchen is very clean, and when I went the person did not know how to use the cash register and overcharged me by $ 15. I will say that we loved their rice.

…“it takes a while to grill chicken”, was the reply to my question on why I was still standing in this dump, waiting for my Chicken Tikka Marsala to be cooked. A while? Maybe 12 minutes? Let me back up… I walked in and ordered at 11:54 am,(per my CC receipt), Chicken Tikka Marsala and Garlic naan. $ 17 later I was sitting, waiting and reading a local hippie rag about some Alpaca farmer named Wilbur, as he recounted his pot running days. He actually hit and killed a guy walking in the road, in Haiti and was fined $ 275. But this isn’t a hippie rag review. I finished the article and to my astonishment, realized I had been sitting there for 40 minutes. WHATTHE F%&#??? I asked, with mild irritation, was my lunch ready? To which, the above reply was given, by the manager/owner/hopefully soon to be unemployed food service worker. So after 40 minutes of waiting, I finally received my food. With no offer or apology, mind you. I headed back to work, as I got my order to go. THANKFULLY!!! Only to discover I was missing my naan. WHATTHE F%&#??? I should actually be more understanding. I mean she WAS receiving a delivery during lunch. That’s a common restaurant practice, right? And she DID have to pay the delivery guy. And it did take her 2 phone calls and a conversation to find the check book and write the check. I don’t know the«biz» but I’m sure noon is a MUCH better time, then say, 2:30 pm, to do this shit? WHATTHE F%&#??? So, I flipped a bitch and headed back. I walked in and she says, «oh hello, can I help you with something?» Keep in mind, I’m pretty F%&#ing pissed about the wait and now I have to drive BACK. I say, you forgot my naan. She’s like«what?». YOUFORGOTMYNAAN!!! «Oh, did you pay for it?» WHATTHE F%&#??? YES! «What kind was it?» GARLIC. «Ok, let me see» and she proceeds to go find my lunch ticket. WHATTHE F%&#??? So, I watch her open this plastic package of naan and proceed to heat a piece of it. WHATTHE F%&#??? WHEREARETHEYGETTINGTHEIR«INDIAN» FOODFROM? I’m so irritated at this point, I just want the F%&# out of this rat hole. She finishes it in a few minutes and offers some free appetizers. HONEY, AREYOUOUTOFYOUR F%&#INGMIND??? IT’S BEENALMOSTANHOURANDYOUWANTTOWASTEMOREOFMYTIME??? I said no thank you and left. So, how was the food? The Chicken was meh, as it was served as whole chicken pieces(chicken tenders, to be precise), with onions and peppers. Greasy too. So, I had to construct my lunch, by cutting up my chicken and adding a little rice(which was under cooked and dry), then topped it with the Marsala sauce. The sauce was ok, but pretty greasy too. So, this was a pretty mundane and unexciting meal, but also HEAVY! Oh, the naan, you ask, that I had to go back for? I should have chalked it up to a bad decision on my part to not check my order(I F%&#ing HATE having to perform order QA) and just kept driving. It was only cooked on one side, the other side must have been the«outer» side in the package, as it was stale. STALE. and I think it became«Garlic» due to the shellacking of garlic butter, on the cooked side, it took on the way out of the kitchen(I use that word loosely). I could have given it 2 stars if the food had been even mildly good. I wish I could give it zero stars. The overall emphasis on «grease», really has my stomach rolling. Plus driving back for that shit naan, really made this an awful experience. I won’t be back and unless you like heavy, greasy Indian food, I would avoid this place.

I’m a fan of Indian food, but didn’t even know Brit-Indi was thing until I this place came up when I Unilocaled local Indian food. So I gave it a shot. It’s a little place, with just enough room for a counter to order at and two tables. I had my reservations when a woman who was neither Indian nor British took my order, but while I was waiting for my food, Indian people were coming to pick up phone orders, so I figured it must be pretty legit. I ordered the South Indian Garlic Chili with chicken and a garlic naan. The bag was awfully heavy. I took it back to my hotel room to discover that I had a full quart container of the chili and and a pint of rice. Looks like I won’t have to venture out for 4th meal. The chili was tasty and spicy, but not«fiery hot» as promised by the menu. There are big chunks of chicken and plenty of bell peppers, though(which is one of those things I hated as a kid but love now). The garlic naan was tasty and fluffy, but missing the crispy edges I like. I’d go again(and probably will, as I’ll be in Portland for a few more days). The service was friendly and fast, and the food is delicious and the portions are generous. Make sure to get a fork and napkins with your take-out order, though. I didn’t think of it and got back to my hotel room to discover that I’d have to go to the nearest fast food place and snag them.

I really wanted to like Brit-Indi, really. We had heard from friends that it was pretty good. But maybe its just changed recently due to mgmt changes. Or, it is just what it is. 1) the Naan were just weird. Really lacking the usual bubbly-ness and Naan-ness :P 2) The sauces were OK but really not anything to say«can’t wait to have that again» Probably fact is i’m comparing it to Indian food in the NYC area but it’s definitely different…

Best Brit-Indi in Portland. Hands down. Ok, well it’s probably the only Brit-Indi in town, but it’s definitely the best. I would actually say this place is better than most of the Indian restaurants we have. In fact, it may be the best all around. Everything I’ve had here is awesome. The prices are right, the portions are MORE than generous. The mango chutney? Completely amazing. It has a strong vinegar type flavor that blends in with the food in a sheer magical type fashion. Make sure you get this. The Naan? Huge, and perfectly cooked. Most naan ordered from takeout comes home soggy. But Haggarty’s is always crisp and delicious. Not to mention, huge. Honestly, I’ve only had the chicken masala and the chicken tikka masala, and both were incredible. The regular masala was super creamy and spiced perfectly. The tikka masala had charred chicken and veggies in a seperate container, just bursting with flavor. Both were completely above par. The bottom line: Haggarty’s is as legit as it gets – Always fresh, tasty, and inexpensive(for what you get). Just make sure you don’t expect to eat in. I think there’s one table inside… This is all about take out.

Easily the most amazing Indian food I have ever had. It just has this freshness to it that most Indian places doesn’t have. Plus, you get so much food that it feeds you for 2 days. The Naan is excellent. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Don’t plan to eat in. The stench of the fish market next door would never allow it. Between a combo of business and health news my fiancé and I just got, we are in need of real comfort food. We were both thinking Haggerty’s. It’s the kind of place where I can only tell you about a couple things on the menu beause they are so good, I don’t even want to stray. The Garlic Chili(with chicken for him, channa for me) and of course, vegetable pakoras and garlic naan. I think this is my favorite naan I’ve ever had. Never been to India, but I’ve done Dosa in SF plenty of times. We don’t even live in Portland and it’s still worth the drive on Forest Ave. I’m almost sad they have a real website now, because we love it just the way it is in all its bootleg glory surprise.

This is more of a take out place, although they have a couple tables. Limited menu, FANTASTIC Brit-Indi food. This is the morph of Indian into something Brits love. Don’t be mistaken, still Indian, and good. Worth a try, very reasonable, and I have found them consistently good.
