We really enjoyed this restaurant… the food was great and best of all the environment was quiet and peaceful. We had fish curry and vegetable korma. Would go back!

This has been passable as good in the past, but it’s certainly NOT ‘Fine’ Indian Cuisine. We’ve given it a couple return visits in case we may have had a bad night or rookie cook; however, last night we opted for takeout, and it’ll be the last time we go back here. I had dry and tough Tandoor chicken covered-up by a butter sauce that was far too mild and lacking in flavour, spices and the medium-heat requested. Naan bread was very dense and chewy, as if it had been microwaved from frozen. I called to let them know that something wasn’t right and they escalated the issue by arguing with me and completely dismissing the feedback! Bad customer service is where I draw the line, so we won’t be back.

went here with 3 others ladies for a significant birthday– wonderful dinner — food was fabulous! Our server was patient as we were were catching up and relaxed in ordering… he overheard a birthday in the air… after dinner he surprised us with a wonderful birthday dessert– we had a lovely time

Tried Tandoori for the first time absolutely loved it! Great authentic taste and atmosphere, and reasonably priced. Can’t wait to come back again

The dal soup was good. Everything else was downhill from there. We ordered chicken biriyani and a meat thali. Biriyani had mushrooms and broccoli in it! As we ordered them to medium spicy looks like they added red pepper powder to it and tasted more like mixed pilaf. The meat thali had tandoori chicken which was good, the lamb curry and chicken curry was both stale and tasteless. Service was good but there is a world of improvement required in the food quality department!

Good but if you’re looking for spicy look elsewhere. I asked for extra spicy and when it came out it was made mild. Smaller size portions than some indian restaurants that I’ve been to.

I went to the store and the service was really bad. When we sit on a taple they said we cant. Not only that but they dont aplogize for the rude behavior. So rude so much crappy behaviour especially the dark skinned man with a beard. And I am supposed to come here and spend money! Not only that but I am a tourist from New York. Forget this place. It deserves zero stars.

Second time we’ve tried this place. First time, I noted that it was a «top notch indian dining experience» — yum! We went with our young son — and he loved the appetizer portion of chicken tikka(ask for sauce on side), the naan bread and the white rice. We devoured the crisp papadum, with a trio of chutneys, as well as the bread with a terrific mango chutney. We came back and had the malai kofta(soft veggie balls in a delicious masala sauce) — amazing! The saag paneer(spinach and cheese cubes) was perfectly spiced and smooth; not overly creamy at all. We loved every morsel. Great service and a clean environment. Try it!

Pros — they allowed us to bring our own wine. dhal soup was amazing. Cons — the food was below average. They looked stale and taste was also stale. It would be hard pressing to visit this place again.

A very cosy place, with soft Indian music on the background and beautiful décor. Delicious food and friendly services. As we were there with kids who are new to Indian food, we ordered«safe» dishes. Chicken tikka was the overwhelming favorite event though tandoori chicken and curry lamb were delicious as well. A variety of sauces and condiments accompanied our food and added that extra kick.

We were visiting from Florida and like to eat Indian food when we travel. We came to Tandoor for dinner and found their butter chicken and Lamb Curry to both lack the flavor and spiciness I am used to with this type of food.

I came here on a Friday night around 5:30 and the place was dead empty. As we ate, it began to fill up. The servers were very polite and attentive. We started with garlic naan for $ 3.50 that came with a few different sauces that were delicious. We ended up ordering another because it was not really enough for 3 people and we really liked it. I ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh for $ 15 and was delighted. It was slightly sweet and very flavorful. The rice was well prepared. I typically have a very sensitive stomach and I found this to be completely non-aggravating. To be fair, I did ask for a 1 on the spice scale. I give only 4 stars because my dining companions both had the lamb biryani for $ 15 and one was disappointed. They both ordered it very spicy, but only one was actually spicy enough. They were both a little dry. When asked for more seasoning the waiter obliged easily. I know that I will absolutely go back for the lamb rogan josh.

My favorite Indian restaurant in the state of Maine. Service is impeccable and the foods delicious. My go to dish is the chicken tikka masala and obsessed with their mango lassi(it’s like a mango smoothie) if you haven’t been here, I definitely recommend coming here!

I had a late dinner on a Friday night during a visit to Portland. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing! Our server was very friendly and delivered excellent service; she checked on our table just the right amount, anticipating our every need. The food was delicious! I had the Paneer Pakora, Garlic Naan, and Chicken Tikka Masala. The flavor was wonderful, fresh, and perfectly spiced. I asked for extra spicy Chicken Tikka Masala and received a side of spicy sauce so that I could add to taste. This was a nice touch as it allowed me to add just the right amount of spice I wanted – I added it all and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was peaceful, nice décor, very clean, and instantly made me feel like this was a good dinner choice. The service and food confirmed my initial impression. This is my first Unilocal review and I’m very happy to give Tandoor the highest rating!

We were walking around looking for a late dinner, and stumbled upon Tandoor. Quiet interior, beautiful Indian décor, no TVs, gentle music and extremely delicious food. Friendly service, and everything perfectly spiced, not too heavy, and reasonable portions, so you could also add soup, bread, or other sides for variety without being overfull. A nice little jewel in downtown Portland.

I’ve often found that most restaurants are better at some things than others; that knowing what to order is as important as avoiding dishes that can disappoint. An example of this is the difference between the ‘Lamb Kebab’ and the ‘Lamb Rogan Josh’. My daughter always orders the kebab and the meat often looks and tastes overdone. I understand… I’m a professional grille master in my own backyard. I know how meat can get away from you if you’re not on top of it. Imagine grilling small pieces of meat and trying to fix 25 other meals at the same time… and it continues to cook as it waits to be delivered to your table. Thank Buddha for Nan. But when you know what to order, a dish can just pop in your mouth, like coriander cleansing your palate. At Tandoor, the ‘Lamb Rogan Josh’ and the ‘Mali Kafta’ are two dishes that might get your attention. The lamb is sooooo tender, having broken down to succulent pieces in a wonderful korma sauce. You will want to sop up the sauce with Nan for eternity. The ‘Mali Kafta’ is a vegetarian ‘meatball’ dish with a brilliant thick tomato based sauce and you’ll need yet another order of nan to make a clean plate of the wicked drippings. Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, Vindaloo, Waterloo, blah, blah, blah… zzzzzzzzzz…Try something new at Tandoor.

When we were the only people in the restaraunt at 5pm, service was competent and friendly. Once there were more than 4 tables filled the staff could not cope, When the restaraunt was full, service came to a grinding halt. People left because of delays getting to them. I waited 20 minutes to get my check. The food was boring. Chicken was overcooked, there was more tomato taste in the sauces than Indian spices. It was not even mildly hot. It is really too bad that this place isn’t better given its terrific location
