Worst hair cut and color I’ve ever had! The owner was not only rude and condescending during the entire process I’ve had better service at a beauty school. My hair was thick and long, resting at the bottom of my rib cage. I told her I wanted highlights and a trim. She chopped over 10″ off of me hair, but not before yanking it hard to the point I could hear it braking under her brushing. She left my hair choppy, uneven and with the worst tiger stripes I’ve ever seen. Save your money at this place, the gas station attendants could do a better job.

I was introduced to Haircolor Salon Dirk thanks to Groupon. Shame on me for not reading the fine print which made the $ 30 cost actually $ 45 based on the thickness and length of my hair. Not Dirk’s fault, but, this oversight on my part mean the price was not significantly lower than what I get at any salon. PROS: Tara is great. She takes the time to meet with you, get to know the history of your hair and what you are trying to achieve. She has a great personality, is easy to talk to and more importantly, she knows what she is doing. I felt so comfortable with her I basically gave her rights to my hair color. Whatever she thought would look good on me. I was not surprised when she selected the color I think ALWAYS works best for me;: chocolate brown. Tara did not move or guilt me into buying products. CONS: I was not even in the salon for 15 minutes and I had the owner, JoAnne, barking at me to «get my shoes off the chair’ and shared how a child got her chairs dirty. My thoughts on this are: if you don’t want to share with the public or plan to nag them because they don’t use what you provide them with in a manner you approve of — DON’T HAVEITINTHESALON. JoAnne ease dropped on literally everything Tara and I discussed and felt compelled to chime in with her opinion as she saw fit. What happened to stylist/client confidentiality? I think most of us can agree we feel the freedom to tell our stylists things we don’t necessary want shared with others. For me and my budget, paying to get my hair done is a pure luxury. Which means I don’t want to be nagged at or ease dropped on. I will remarry if I want to surround myself with that negativity :) JoAnne was the first to tell you how long ago she bought the salon and how long she has been in this industry. I get my hair colored to be pampered not to stroke your ego. And, irrespective of your history in the hair industry — respect is given where respect is due and for me that is not with JoAnne at this Salon. She is a total crab cake and her presence in the salon made me uptight and uneasy. CONCLUSION: I feel bad knowing I won’t be returning to Tara because of JoAnne’s shortcomings. Tara is great at what she does and a is a pleasure to be around. However, between Joanne’s behavior and the price being the same as most salons based on my hair thickness and length, I would prefer to take my business elsewhere were I will feel pampered, not be nagged or barked at and have confidentiality with my stylist. Thank you Tara if you ever fly the coop, I would follow you in a heartbeat!!!

You can immediately tell Tara is professional and passionate about what she does. I came in for an ombré and she told me all her concerns and would not continue on my hair until we had a solid plan. I originally bought the $ 69 groupon for an ombré but had to pay and extra $ 40 for a toner. It turned out perfect and Im very happy with the result! Ill be going back soon to go a little bit lighter!

The owner needs to retire. I wish I heeded the review about the groupon. I had one as well and received great customer service but the color was done horribly. Joann is not up to date in how to do new trends and every ombré, I believe, is a learning experience for her. She mentioned previous issues with the groupon as a previous reviewer stated. I didn’t think much of it but she literally brought it up three different times. It’s a shame u had a bad experience as I wanted to start getting my hair dyed regularly professionally. Makes me weary of salon groupons in general.

PROS –Cute, small atmosphere –On-time start –the owner gave helpful tips on product and styling(no pressure) –offered water, tea, coffee promptly –seats comfortable –clean CONS –clearly confusion over which stylist I was supposed to have– I was a new client scheduled w/Tara but when I got there she booked someone else with her at the same time(even though I got 2 phone confirmations) so I was switched to the owner JoAnn(who was very nice) –I showed her a picture of the ombré I wanted. She thought it would be easy to do in my hair. I also paid for a haircut which took literally less than 8 minutes and she cut it DRY. ??? No style. Uneven. –The ombré was not ombré. I have full fledge(foil) highlights instead. Pretty, yes. Disappointed? Thoroughly. There is also a strip of my original color near my forehead w/no highlight so it looks weird(dark). I was very, very clear in my request and my base hair was close to the pics– not an unreal task. There is no difference in color on the top of my hair to the bottom. NOTOMBRÉ. –one of the products used on me wasn’t avail for purchase(they were apparently out) –issues with the groupon were mentioned by the owner to me. Not the clients(my) concern –only carries Paul Mitchell products **Because of lack of listening to my basic request and«mis-scheduling» who was doing my hair, I will not return. ESP in a salon that specializes in color*

Feels like family here — but with the kind of passion, civic engagement, and dolce’ vita that is quintessentially Portland. Great skill with a variety of hair cuts and styles. Superb coloring. Cool(and good enough) that our teenage daughter comes here, too.

What a personable friendly place! I went in to get my hair fixed from a home color and came out looking great! I was taken aback at how lovely the coffee and service was– they listen, want you to feel important and that’s why it’s great! Check out their amazing products too!
