Super comfortable, affordable and welcoming little neighborhood dive bar.

Ran in here with my gf to avoid a torrential downpour last Saturday afternoon. Interesting layout like a large L where there’s ample seating up front, the bar itself and then 3 pool tables, 3 pinball machines and more booths tucked away in the back. It was quiet and not very busy, perfect for a few afternoon drinks. Didn’t try the food, but drank for cheap. 2 hard ciders, 2 jello shots, a shot of whiskey and a Tecate tallboy set my gf and i back a combined $ 15 plus tip. The pinball machines are good and the pool was FREE. i will definitely be back. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the shops on Hawthorne, so it’s somewhat of a destination spot, but that’s OK. A nice no frills place where not everything is «artisan» and«muddled», if that’s your thing.

LOVE this place. So glad I found it. It really is a ‘hideaway’ as it’s easy to overlook with all the other great bars on hawthorne. It’s got a very dark and rock & roll interior with great music and good drinks. The bar is very small with maybe 6 seats, but the bartender is friendly enough. The real highlight of this place is in the back, where there’s 3 pool tables and plenty of pinball. I’ve never had an issue getting a table, so you don’t feel rushed to finish your game. Oh, and did I mention the pool is FREE?! My one complaint is that there’s no patio, so if you want to have a smoke you have to go out front(where there’s no drinks allowed) and stand because there’s only 2 tables. Overall Hawthorne Hideaway is my second favorite bar(next to Lutz Tavern) on the east side. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I like going here because the atmosphere is pretty chill but I also eat here and the food does not disappoint, had the best mushroom soup last night, really good and good prices.

Trivia, divey, the traditional ample supply of beer on tap in Portland. Wooot.

I was immediately nervous when I got inside the place. I was greeted by four bearded homeless looking men standing at the bar, no doubt taking turns asking each other for change, while a skinny, tattooed elderly woman sneered at new people coming into the joint. I ordered a drink and passed a dead floor fan as I went into the back for some free pool. An old drunken maniac was flopping pool balls around the table with the side of the pool cue as he continually remarked upon the freshness of the felt. «Nice day isn’t it! Nice day isn’t it!» he exclaimed while staring at me with a lazy eye. I nodded vigorously as I violently finished my vodka tonic and high-tailed it.

This is an interesting little bar, I lived across the street for several years and so have seen it in many lights. The drinks are generally good. It can be a nice place to drink a beer on a nice afternoon, they have a few outdoor tables. The food is pretty hit or miss. I once had a quinoa salad that was tasty and sizable, and I’ve also had the Cesar salad that was about 5 bites worth of lettuce… And both these items cost around the same amount. So, I don’t go there often for the food anymore, but if your looking for a laid back bar with a couple pool tables, this might be your spot.

As dive bars go, this place is awesome. I was greeted with some sweet classic rock as I strolled through the door. Great happy hour specials and reasonably priced munchies. They have Beer Geek night every Monday, I wish I would have entered seen as the questions were pretty easy. Oh well, there’s always next time. Take a date, your mum or work buddies, this place is good for all that and more.

Came in for happy hour during the rose bowl. I was surprised to see the place pretty chill. Bulleit bourbon was on special, an instant star right there. Great beers on tap, check. 3 pool tables, pinball, two unisex poopers, check. Friendly staff, check. I’m kind of a sucker for a crispy bacon, gooey cheese and toasty bun slider and check, check, check! I’ll be coming back for many happy hours and multiple late night munchies. Keep up the chill work, you’re appreciated

Great place! Nice vibe and three pool tables, no quarters needed! Bonus it had Boneyard on tap and some good eats on the menu. Good place to get the night started!

Little gem on Hawthorne! This is a great place to go grab some lunch! They have a few booths in the front and a large room with pool, pinball, and other games. The food we ordered came without a long wait. The food was also not too expensive. As far as taste, it was delicious!!! The portions were big and the sauce on my burger was awesome! Fries were also good! The bartender working when we came in was very friendly. He was pretty awesome! I will definitely be returning when I get the chance!

After being disappointed that I couldn’t get a Blood Mary at Jam I was determined to get something in my system on Portland’s hip Hawthorne strip. The Hawthorne Hideaway was just the place. Some might call this a dive bar but not me. Chad suggested a few local beers and they did not disappoint. Jam is great and so is the Hawthorne Hideaway. PS-the Simpson’s pinball machine is worth the trip alone.

This place has good food for cheap, good prices on beer and if you’re looking for some sort of hook-up joint chalk full of hipsters, rakes and jocks well then… you’ll have to look elsewhere. The owner is a very friendly guy, and the others are nice too. As for the everything else, lighting is dark and nice for a quiet date, music isn’t too loud, pool tables are never swarmed and you can draw a picture and they’ll hang it on the wall. My kind of place :)

I have been going to the Hideaway for years. It’s a great dive bar! It looks small from the outside, but it goes back much more than you would think. They have two or three? pool tables, I can’t remember now and I am pretty sure it’s free to play. There are some pinball machines and there used to be some lottery machines, but they have added some swanky looking booths were those were. The bathrooms are quite divy, but never smelly. The bartenders have always been topnotch since my first time coming here about 6 or so years ago. It’s right up the street for me, so I used to frequent it often. Not that much now though, as I seem to be always trying new places. The well drinks are always strong and they use fresh squeezed OJ for their screwdrivers. Cheap beers, too. There food is pretty good, hamburgers and sandwiches and their nachos are great and come in all different sizes. Very affordable prices, too.

Hawthorne Hideaway: Because sometimes all you want at midnight on Christmas is homemade falafel, jalapeño poppers, and Anthem cider on tap. Quick, friendly service, hot food, good ambiance. Granted, I’ve only been here the once, but it beats the hell out of a lot of the louder, hipper Hawthorne joints. Update: There’s a sweet game room in the back that I discovered in my second visit. I don’t want this place to get too hip, so I probably shouldn’t hype it any more, but it really is a great spot.
