Definitely going to be my «Go-​To place» when it comes to anything photography related. The atmosphere of the shop was very nice and my first visit was a splendid one. I recently got into film photography and I heard Ed was the guy for the job of developing. Since I’m new I don’t want to be spending way too much on developing but the price for a 24 exp roll (processing and print) was a very reasonable price and the cheapest that I’ve encountered in researching places to develop. Definitely a recommended place

For true film photography, and film cameras this is the only place to go in Portland. Ed has been at this shop since 1953, and the shop was at least 10 years old when he came into the picture. The gear is all used, and much of it has been serviced, before being put on the shelf, so you get a good deal, and one that the shop stands behind. One thing that is a bit of a bother is that he does not stock darkroom chemistry, or much in the way of Black and White paper, but he knows his market better than me, so maybe it does not sell. On Saturdays, it’s like the old time barber shop with people gathering to socialize and tell tall tales of their photo exploits.

How can you not love this place? Even if you don’t shoot film the amount of gear Ed has is very impressive. Every Time I plan on going I expect two walk out with something. A new camera, lens, or even a strap. Never regretted a purchase.

I love Ed. He is unendingly patient with my silly questions and has an infectious enthusiasm for film cameras. Our interactions always make me want to go out and shoot more film.
*Not a negative, but it should be noted that the options for purchasing film in the store are rather slim. There’s always some color and b&w available, just not a whole lot.
*Shooting film is an expensive hobby. No one says any different these days.

ed is wonderful. his store is filled with amazing photography artifacts. he takes good care of my film and for a good price. buy your film from him and then get it developed through him. the quality of your life will increase tenfold.
since ed is the only one at the shop most of the time, he sometimes cuts out for lunch in the middle of the day. he always puts a sign up saying when he’ll be back, but if you’re making a trek, it’d be advised you call to see if he’ll be around.

For anyone shooting film Ed and his shop are amazing! He has been in this same location since 1952. This place is truly a gem of Portland! If you need any quality film or quality equipment this is the place to go. He has more knowledge in his pinky then most other locations combined. I can say enough wonderful place and Ed is great to.

Old School. Ed has been a staple of Hollywood for decades and his business is a rarity amongst all the digital technoid stores cluttering trendy shopping areas.
I have been a customer here for 15 years and will continue to go here for my processing, film, supplies, and accessories for non-​digital media. I was fortunate to also own a business a few doors down a few years ago, so I was there frequently back then.
Stock varies constantly, so don’t judge it on one visit. Keep coming back and see what is new. Keep in mind that Ed is running this place solo, so he may step out for lunch or to take a stroll and will put a «be back at» sign. Be patient, because the service here is well worth it!

I love this place so much! Ed is such a sweetheart and always provides helpful suggestions when I’m looking for new film to experiment with. I’ve learned so much from him and it really revitalized my love of film and photography. The store is museum-​like with it’s unbelievable variety, ranging from plastic novelty toy cameras to expired rare film to large format supplies; this place has it all. I won’t go anywhere else to get my film developed. I can’t say enough kind things about Hollywood Camera.

Harkens back to the old days: Old cameras, old photographs, and old owner. The owner seems to do it all: Wait on customers and answer the phone. This means you might have to wait for a while. But the wait will be worth it: The guy has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cameras and techniques.

Beautiful camera store. Ed develops film, repairs cameras, and his walls and counters are lined with various old school cameras.
When I walked in, I had my grandfather’s Olympus in the car, and I just wanted to buy some film and then play with the camera. Ed sent me back to the car to get the camera so he could make sure it worked. He disassembled and dusted it, put new batteries in it, and then tested it and realized that a small spring was stuck and it would require being repaired. He gave it back to me since I lived out of town and gave me advice about what needed to be done, and suggested I could buy a different body and still use the lens if I wanted.
He was so sweet and patient and careful with my camera, I really appreciated his time and thoughtfulness. This shop is absolutely worth a visit if you like film photography.

This place is amazing. They have so many lovely old cameras and Ed is the nicest man, really good, knowledgeable people. They haven’t finished cleaning up my camera yet but it’ll be done on Monday and I’d bet money it’ll be perfect.

This place should be on the National Register of Historic Places; the walls are lined with antique cameras, and the tables are covered with old enlargers and other printing equipment and supplies. I won’t repeat what the previous reviewers have said, but if you are shooting film you should definitely stop in, even if you don’t need to buy anything. I went in with a malfunctioning lens on my digital camera; the owner cleaned it up (for free) and now it works. I bought a few lens caps and checked out his stock of (non-​autofocus) lenses for my camera. I plan to sell some old lenses there in the future if he will accept them.

This place is really cool. I looked up camera stores on Unilocal and this place already had some really good reviews. If you’re in to vintage camera stuff, this is the jam. I went in to find SLR lenses for an Iphone camera adapter that I have and the owner was super helpful in finding the proper lenses that were compatible with what I had, though he had never seen it before. I bought some old zoom lens and will probably go back tomorrow to check out more of what they have available. While I was there, I met a guy who is in there weekly and said that the turnover is really high, so there’s new gear coming through all of the time.

If you’re still shooting film, this is a gem of a store. Seriously, never been to a more helpful, friendly and flat-​out amazing store for cameras in my life. Part-​museum, the store is the go-​to place for hard to find cameras, parts and info.

Hollywood Camera Store is just a gem in Portland — a quirky, small shop run by the same guy for 50+ years, if I remember correctly. This isn’t the place to get the latest digital cameras, but it’s wonderful if you’re looking for an older film SLR or maybe a large format camera.
All sorts of great old film cameras and an attentive owner who’s been taking photos since before World War II. If you’re lucky, he might tell you about his experiences in the Army during the Occupation of Japan. He has great stories and knowledge; this place is truly a rare and wonderful shop.
