Food is a great neighborhood option. I keep going back because I work up the street– but the service is so s l o o o o w!!! Not feeling the love from the staff, but I’ll keep trying.

So, I’ve been on a cheeseburger kick lately, not a huge surprise since I’ve been working out a lot. Protein is always good, right? Anyways, while at the gym, I pulled up Iconic and saw they had a cheeseburger that sounded pretty great. Surprisingly enough, it’s called Iconic burger. So, after burning through a bunch of calories I stroll into the place knowing what I want and how much it will be. Their menu is displayed on their website, which I find quite handy. Since I knew what I wanted, I didn’t look at the paper menu, just ordered the Iconic burger with salad instead of fries without a bun. They do have gluten free buns for a two dollar up charge, but I prefer no bun. The food was quickly served and quite delicious. I got to watch the movie, The Craft, while I consumed my dinner. It was pretty cool overall. Until the bill came. Now, this whole time, I was under the impression that the Iconic burger was $ 11.00, per the menu on the website of the place. Well priced, in my opinion. So, the bill comes and I don’t look at it until after I gave my card. Apparently the Iconic burger is now $ 14.00…kind of a difference there. I admit, I should have looked at the paper menu, but shouldn’t the website of the place have a current menu with current prices? This kind of soured my whole experience.

Cool place with awesome vibe. The sign up front said seat yourself but it took quite some time before someone came to give us menus, and even longer to actually get our food. The food itself was good, but if you had anywhere to be in the next few hours I’d find somewhere else.

Went there for brunch. It was ok. I liked the fact that they had a a lot to offer for brunch. I ordered the chicken and waffle. I’m not sure how the waffle was cooked… but it came out solid as a rock. The chicken had some flavor to it. I’ve had better.

I love creative Benedicts, and this place had several. Had a crab cake Benedict that was fantastic and the potatoes were bomb. $ 5 decent sized mimosas too. We’ll definitely be back!

Good, quirky brunch option. The main brunches are various«benedicts» which are unique, and, well, rather odd. I had the vegan option, but had them add eggs to it, so kale/onion/tomato/pepper benedict with avocado sauce instead of hollandaise. Pretty good, and the potatoes are excellent. Service was really good, especially considering the one server first thing. When we realized halfway through ordering that we were in a hurry, he went back to the kitchen and sped up our order for us so that we didn’t have to leave hungry.

This place is a gem. Not sure why it wasn’t busy. The service was the reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. One of the servers was sitting at the bar with what looked like his girlfriend having fun while the bartender waited on us. She seemed kind of irritated. I got the fried chicken benedict, which had some delicious bacon hollandaise on top. It was seriously a must have. It came with some really well flavored, crispy potatoes. My husband did the Vesuvius challenge which is three plates of food that’s free if you finish it. It had 3 eggs, two pieces of fried chicken, two waffles, two pieces of French toast with peanut butter, several slices of bacon, biscuits and gravy and potatoes! Needless to say he didn’t finish it. Lol we will definitely be back! Unilocal checkin also gave us a free beer glass! They also carry shake chocolate porter on draft

Really enjoy the atmosphere here. Their burgers are delicious. The music has a mix of classic oldies, which I absolutely love. Classic movies on screen for extra enjoyment. Great place, food, and service!

Once again I find myself in a neighborhood spot that’s been here for awhile– and I’m late to the party. Again. The benefit to you, dear reader, is that since I’m not first in line anywhere, ever, is that all kinks should be ironed out by now… or are they? Halloween afternoon — it is Pissing down outside but being a native this bothers me naught as I’d rather have a cocktail than an umbrella any old day. Husband and I brave the elements and walk there from our house which is a piece of cake. We arrived, are told to sit anywhere and we chose a mostly comfortable booth and examined the menu. Including husband and I there were probably 8 customers and three waitstaff yet the female waitperson is definitely not happy. Maybe she was ill, or her sea monkeys died– either way my husband and I both noticed it and we were glad she wasn’t our server. We got straight to business with an old fashioned for me and some coffee cocktail off the happy hour menu for my husband. They were both delightful and better than I’d hoped as the décor just seemed more like a burger place than a cocktail spot. I know they do brunches as well, and I know they have a swell happy hour I just can’t figure out what this place wants to be? There was a black and white movie in the background playing some Halloween themed film– nothing too edgy, and by the second drink(fading embers) I was starting to warm to the place slightly. We decided to have some food since we figured we would be up late passing out treats to the. Neighborhood ghouls and witches and so we shared some Iconic Mac(excellent– I don’t even want to know the calories) and the Iconic burger– both were very good. Of course since we weren’t driving I had a third cocktail– another old fashioned as nothing else seemed to appeal and it warmed me right up for the very wet walk home. It felt a little unwelcoming at first but whether it was the booze, or me determined to have a good time — it turned out to be just what we needed. Our server was nice but the service itself was slow– we nearly left which is why there are three instead of four stars. I hate being ignored and they weren’t exactly busy. I’m hoping we’ll be back before New Years and if things change I’ll let you know.

Mac and cheese — if you’re veg order it vegetarian. They also have a gluten-free option with cauliflower. THAT is really a treat! Drinks are lovely, the staff is wonderful — and our food comes out rather quickly. I’ve also been for brunch, which I can also recommend! Veggie options for brunch too(kale benedict!)!!

I’ve been coming to Iconic occasionally for awhile now and the place is really beginning to grow on me. As expected, things were a little bumpy when the establishment first opened, but now that they’re near their first anniversary most issues have been smoothed out. This being the case, I went to Iconic tonight to have a fancy cocktail and write a new review that bumps them up a few stars. Reasons? Here are some: 1) The food is quite good. When I first came in I was unimpressed with their signature pizza. Now from what I can tell they don’t even serve pizza. But! I’ve had fish tacos that were not only delicious but beautifully presented. Very fancy for a bar. I also had this over the top green bean appetizer. In fact, all of the appetizers are incredibly good. The Iconic has matured well! 2) Their house cocktails are great. I love«The Untouchable» and«The Irvington»(even though this bar is technically in Sullivan’s Gulch). 3) The ambiance is cozy. There is a garage style roll up door in the front that opens on nice days, with nice sidewalk seating. Great for people watching. And yet now that it’s getting colder and rainy, it’s super cozy inside. I like the black walls and black and white movies. It’s inviting. That said, and irony of ironies! on this very night I apparently arrived on incompetent new bartender night. Owners, this was Friday, 10÷8÷2015 between 6:08 pm and 6:55 pm if you care to know. I sat at the bar and the bartender completely ignored me for a full 15 minutes. The place was busy but by no means packed. No menu. No water. Nothing. Eventually even the guy sitting next to me asked, «Did he even take your order yet?» 15 minutes in the waitress rescued me. After several trips to the drink station she looked at me, drinkless, and asked if I was being helped. I said no, so she graciously took my order FROMTHEBAR. I ordered an Untouchable. The bartender starts making my Untouchable at the bar. He says«what the hell is an Untouchable?» This is how I know he’s new untrained bartender guy. The Untouchable is one of Iconic’s signature cocktails. It’s not some obscure drink. It’s on their menu. The bartender has to go find a recipe book. This takes forever. Another full 15 minutes go by. So now I’m in a half hour. I’d already told the waitress I’d been ignored for 15 minutes. Was my order expedited? Apparently not. My Untouchable arrives. it’s blindingly bitter. Distinctly Angostura. It tasted like a whole teaspoon of bitters was added. I take few sips trying to ignore it. I’ve had this cocktail before and think it’s awesomely good. But I can’t get past the bitters. I tell the poor waitress at the BAR! That I cannot drink this drink. It’s poisonously bitter. «He made it according to the recipe, «she tells me. «I’ve had it before,» I tell her. «It’s not this bitter. «so she kindly offered me a replacement. «how about the Irvington?» I ask. She places the order. it’s now been a full 30 minutes and I still have no drink. You’d think they’d expedite ASAP! Nope. Ten minutes later I walked out. Shit happens. Don’t judge the place by one bad experience. Yes. I would agree. Still, unleashing an untrained bartender on customers on a busy Friday night? That’s not a wise business decision. This is hard. I want so much to like this place. It’s in my neighborhood. One additional star(reluctantly after last night).

This place rocks! We stopped in for a drink Saturday night and the cocktails were on point and the bartender was a super nice guy. We loved the setting of this place, mellow, good music, romantic feel, and the black and white film playing in the background was fun. I’ve had one of the best old fashions here and try the ‘I don’t know’ drink, because the bartender really knows what he’s doing. Thanks Iconic for a good night!

The whole staff was super friendly especially the seating host! The goat burger was really delicious. I saw a bunch of people with Brussels sprouts that I’ll be ordering next time.

Our final burger #5 for the week. The Goat was AWESOME! Had a cheap trendy beer in my cheap trendy beer glass( Unilocal check in offer) to wash it down. The burger patty was grilled to perfection medium rare. The combination of the chevre, goat food, and toasted bun made this the best burger in flavor and composition out of all I have had this week. The truffle fries were subtle on the truffle, but heavy in golden crispy deliciousness. The sauce on the side was a bit too sweet so I ate my order(and my friends) sans ketchup. The waitstaff was attentive and polite despite our party adding people over the course of the night. This is definitely a place I would come to again.

Restaurant competition is fierce in Portland. This restaurant gets quite a few things right. And I would recommend them for an everyday neighborhood meal at a reasonable price with a concept atmosphere. It’s a Lloyd District thing. They have composed a menu based around burgers, fries, pizza, salad and a few vegetable dishes. This is not lowly pub grub. The ingredients are quality, and some recipes are inventive without being challenging. The fries are lightly seasoned with truffle oil and they have a nice house spiced catsup. They had an outstanding Portland Burger Week goat-lamb burger with chevre. The brussel sprouts, always a fine item for the menu, are baked to brown-tinged edges, then deep fried to warm for serving. The day I was there I did not taste the lemon dressing. I would not try this dish again. The staff was stellar, several asked how the meal was and for suggested improvements. I’m a huge fan of Six Sigma and continuous improvement, so I laud that! The concept of Iconic is projections in monochrome of classic films, most originally shot in color on two screens visible from the seating areas. They chose a weekly theme relating to their menu. The films show with no sound. I like the concept! The rest of the interior is related to the theme. It’s neighborhood-friendly, not architecturally trendy. Seems like older children might like it. Iconic is a solid neighborhood restaurant, with good service, but it is not in the pantheon of Portland food innovation. If you don’t like trendy food, you will like Iconic. It certainly would be friendly to older relatives or visitors from the Midwest.

They have two projector screens featuring classic black and white movies, along with other big black and white pictures framed on the wall. The interior design really gives it a classic retro vibe.

Stopped in for a drink. Ordered a Pimm’s Cup. The bartender did a nice job with it. It is a good summer drink, even though it was full priced. We had a small appetizer. The meat was done just right, but the sauce was a bit bland. OK, but not great. This place has a steel and chrome feel to it. It has a hip feel to it. This is not a hop neighborhood. I am sure there are people who will like it, but it just does not feel like a neighborhood place. Could be my age. With a good bartender, I might go back.

Great place to relax and grab a drink! I had my first visit to this bar a few weeks ago and was really impressed. The place is really nicely decorated and is showing an old time movie in black and white. They have a pretty awesome cocktail menu and a good selection of beers on tap as well in bottles. The bartenders are very friendly and gave us information on the different drinks on the menu. The untouchable is pretty awesome it’s templeton rye, luxardo maraschino(a sour cherry verity, matured in wood vats) amaro, and finished with orange bitters served neat. They also make a pretty awesome old fashioned with dark cherries you pick your poison on the whiskey. Great food, sweet potato tatter tots are good, and the French fries with sea salt and truffle oil are amazing. I am a huge fan of deviled eggs and super picky about them and they probably have the best deviled eggs I have ever ate. They have a pretty good selection of pizza and sandwiches. l am looking forward to trying them for Sunday brunch. Great for a group of people to get together at, only thing I can say it would be nice to see a candle on the table and not a battery powered one kinda cheap looking. Overall a great place very clean, clean restrooms.

I’ve been here for brunch and happy hour and I recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area. The happy hour was by far my favorite of the two meals I had, the prices were good and the food was tasty. The bartender/owner Chris made us some yummy drinks and while I’m not a big drinker, I’d definitely come back to try some more concoctions. Brunch wasn’t bad by any means, the food was plentiful, the prices good and the drinks(from those who had them) were delicious. Overall I walked away satisfied and content with both the food and how much I paid for it.

This place was good. The services wasn’t excellent, but good. We went for brunch and has the classic mimosa and classic Bloody Mary. We split the breakfast pizza, and chocolate quinoa bowl. The pizza was excellent. The quinoa bowl, of course is healthy, and tastes that way too. I’ve heard the happy hour is good so I’ll be back as it’s a convenient location. The word hasn’t gotten out yet, so there was no line for brunch. They gave us three little biscuits while we waited for our food which were great. They have different themed nights too — trivia, ladies night, movie night, etc. Check it out if you’re in the area.
