Jesuit High School

Amazing high school with excellent academics, arts, and athletics. Inexpensive for a private school of this caliber. Strongly recommended.

I went to a track meet here with the visiting team. This is a review of the field and facilities around it, not the school itself.
This is a very nice track. good traction and an excellent ability to see the whole thing from the stands. The restrooms at the base of the announcer tower thing were clean and functional. the food for sale looked nice, but I didn’t sample any of it.
The stands are unusual in that both teams sit on the same side instead of across from each other. I assume this was done to fit into the space available, but I really like this. It means that no one cannot see the finish lines for the races. Yes, if you want to watch the pole vault action you’d have to walk around, but that’s ok by me.

Aww you guys, This is my alma mater. Out of all the catholic high schools in Portland. this is the best one you’d want to send your kids to. If I ever had the chance to raise a family in Portland, I’d want my kids to go here and be my legacies. Don’t gag, just listen.
This place prepared me well for college. Their admissions process is a lot like applying for college except that there’s a required interview with the prospective student and their parents and parents are required to write an essay as to why they’d like their child to enroll at Jesuit. I remember that night my mom was trying to get her essay proof read. haha. It’s also true that if you can’t keep up a certain grade point average that you are kicked to the curb. I believe it’s a 2.0. There is a strict dress code, i.e. you cannot wear any attire that promotes rock and roll, sex or has any holy figures on it, so that Jesus is my home boy t– shirt will be frowned upon and you’ll get in trouble! It’s just rude to Jesus. They don’t tolerate colored hair that doesn’t occur naturally such as purple, bright orange, and the like. You even get in big trouble if they catch you spitting on the pavement here. I kinda liked that, for it pleased the inner clean freak in me. I really enjoyed my 3 years here, it was challenging and students are put up to high expectations for good reason and they instilled great values in us. I had some amazing, hilarious profs here that I still remember to this day.
Contrary to popular belief, not everyone is catholic here. I knew of a couple atheists here even and they still excelled here. There is weekly mass but you don’t have to attend. I never did and would use that time to do my homework. Punishment here is referred to as JUGS = Justice Under God, which is pretty much janitorial work like picking up trash on the campus grounds or mopping the cafeteria floor. Nike sponsors the athletics here. probably also cuz Phil Knight’s sons attended school here and he was known as a generous donor, hence the Knight center (one of the gymnasiums). Which by the way. Jesuit has great facilities here.
One of the requirements to graduate is community service. Despite all the bad mouthing of the school from the public school crowd, I think they’re just jealous that our school was pristine, while their schools were falling apart and people were actually smart and wanted to do something about it at an early age, all at the same time as usually dominating in athletics. It’s a dog eat dog world, and you learn that fast when attending Jesuit. When I went here, there wasn’t much diversity at all but looking at the recent alumni newsletters, I see that they’ve made more of an effort to recruit more minorities. This is a great school and I’m so lucky that my parents were willing to pay my tuition here when it was during my bitch from hell for no good reason phase. Also known as: The teenage years. Mmmm, those were good years.
