Everytime I come into this store the staff is so nice to me and helpful. Great selection from furniture to lamps to knick knacks to scented candles, books etc. I love this store. Always something fun, different and exciting to purchase.
Store is always displayed nicely, and organized. Displays are beautiful. Just a great store, where I like to come on my sundays to buy something. Always puts a smile on my face.
Again thank you «Jonathan Adler» for always having such a wonderful and friendly staff at your fingertips.

Portland! Why is your JA way better than mine? The Seattle store is easily ¹⁄₃ the size. The customer service today was fantastic and a friend and I had a great time perusing, dreaming of buying furniture and buying gifts here for friends. More than pottery and furniture, there are candles, wallets, bags, scarves, socks, and even baby gifts. That, in addition to lamps, rugs, linens and more. Seriously, come see!
Prices vary but there are clearly marked signs for sale items and the staff was extremely helpful and pointing out new items, final sale pieces, and floor samples that were on their way out to make room for new pieces. Definitely worth popping in if you want to add color and fun into your home or wardrobe.

MIA and crew, thanks for such a great shopping experience. I had been stalking a prohibitively expensive blue velvet couch for… awhile…in the window of the store. I finally decided to just go in there already and touch it when I saw it was part of a floor model sale. BE STILL MY HEART. Mia and Josh (sorry, I hope that’s right) greeted me and encouraged me to sit, lie down on, rearrange pillows on, and generally nuzzle the couch all I wanted. This was a good move. It is the softest, girliest, most decadent thing in the world. I needed to give myself a couple of days to rationalize the purchase (I have a perfectly serviceable 1 year old IKEA couch– be reasonable Tory), so I went home conflicted.
Josh called me a couple of days later to let me know that they had discounted her even more, to almost a third of the original price! SOLD. Such a good deal, and such seriously fantastic customer service. I must say, the generous and welcoming way that the staff has about them was half the reason I ultimately decided to make the purchase. I’ll also add that since I’ve made that purchase, I have received a lovely handwritten note thanking me for shopping there and a phone call to let me know about a great sale this weekend from Mia. These are both classy moves I’ve seen from other businesses, but Mia has a way of bringing a special and personal touch to everything. She is a real gem.
And Tory and the beautiful velvet couch lived happily ever after. JA crew, you’re welcome to come over any time and visit us.

While looking through my bookmarked Unilocal reviews I noticed I had bookmarked JA. What’s JA? I had no idea how it got bookmarked so I thought I would look at the photos to see what they had.
Posted over a year ago was a photo of a wiener dog hanukkiah. My business partner is half Jewish and has a number of products he designs and sells under the Wiener Dog label so I had to see if somehow the staff could find me another even though it’s been a year. Amazingly they had them in stock! (and hilariously, the salesgirl’s name was Monica — rhymes with Hanukkah).
So my husband and I went in, and we are no wealthy looking couple by any stretch of the imagination. We are heavily tattooed and were dressed very casually.
The sales staff were extremely helpful and friendly as we sat on every couch JA has to offer, giving us both personal thoughts on the furniture as well as printing out spec sheets for all the pieces we were eyeballing. I wanted to hire the lot of them to come work for my store!
We left with the wiener dog hanukkiah and spec sheets knowing that when we are ready to get our new couch — THAT’S where we are buying it from.

Five stars for the nicest clerk we encountered during holiday shopping (which, btw, begs the question of what has happened to Portland friendliness — this incredibly lovely woman hails from Massachusetts). The goods are sweet and colorful, but she really made the experience delightful.

If I stopped going out to dinner I could buy more stuff at Jonathan Adler. It’s tempting.
I’m a fan of MCM design and own quite a few original pieces, but there’s something to be said for purchasing brand new merch with a retro aesthetic. No smells, no scratches, no discoloration, no funky wiring. I appreciate that there’s a nod given to the original designers and there’s any justice in this world, someone will buy me a Dora Maar face vase (inspired by Picasso).
I am in love with the pottery, especially the animal stuff that reminds me of Lisa Larson ceramics (think 1970s Sweden) and the lighting fixtures are affordable and quite stunning. Some of the stuff is too over-​the-​top for my life but this is a very fun place to find gifts and unusual items and I am seriously in love with the Capri 1, cased glass, hanging pendant light.
The staff here are so fun and kind and helpful. This is a fun store that brings much needed color into our gray Portland palette.

Home of the mid-​century (inspired) chic. Some items are pricy but they are exquisitely designed. I love their ceramics, and pillows.

I was shopping with a friend and we opted to drop in. I have heard of Jonathan Adler but was not familiar with his designs.
Perhaps über expensive bubble gum mid century spinoff is for a limited clientele somewhere but it seems like a weird fit for Portland.
There were a few fun whimsical items that I admired, but I guess I just do not get the pricing at all. (Says the girl shopping in Tory Burch flats, a Marc Jacobs bag, Paige jeans and D&G sunglasses)
The staff was friendly, the store was clean and smelled really good.
Best of luck finding your ideal customer JA, I guess it is not me.

Dangerous to visit this store with a credit card. Too many pretty things all in 1 place. Amazing pottery and design. Very helpful and friendly staff to boot.

Yes it is expensive. A lot of them a novelty, retro, bold, pop and pretty. The staff is is there ready to assist you.
Get ready to splurge.

I just used Unilocal to help me locate the phone number to the Jonathan Adler store, and was surprised to see 2 bad reviews about their customer service. After just experiencing the best customer service over the phone and really great service while visiting in the past, I felt motivated to write up a nice review to counter-​balance the bad ones. Thank you to the gentleman who just help me on the phone place an order, as I called in a panic, worried about being one hour away from missing out on the Friends & Family 20% off sale. I adore Jonathan Adler’s designs. I highly respect the artist and the company values he has created. I would only expect the best from his staff, and I look forward to shopping with them in the future.

I have passed by this store several times. I initially never went in, mostly from the «you can’t afford this store» stink eye the sales people gave me as I looked in the windows. Today I decided to venture in. On the positive, this store is very bright and cheery in color and design. However, the sales staff is not very helpful. It feels as if they will only notice you if you are carrying a Louie Vuitton or pull up in a Mercedes. I barely got a hello. As I waked around, I noticed while there are a lot of items in the store, the diversity of items is small. They make a little look like a lot. The most unfortunate thing about this store is the price tag of the items. As an artist, I am we’ll aware of the cost of time and materials it goes into making goods but Adler’s products are wildly overpriced for such underwhelming pieces. $ 100+ for a small ceramic animals doesn’t make sense. I saw a few pillows and blankets that were nice but that was about it. I am not sure what kind of business they expect in a town where local artisans churn out quality goods on the regular for a margin of the price. But this artisan just isn’t impressed. I’d rather spend $$$ on a weekend vacation than a mass produced wooden Owl.

This review is for Jonathan Adler PORTLAND, not the brand or any other store.
I’ve been to Adler stores in San Francisco, New York, Santa Monica, Denver, Dallas and even London. Theres always this flair about going in… the staff. Every location I’ve been in, the staff is fun and happy and really helpful. No matter what the location looks like (I mean the soho store is dreadful as a «store»), the staff always makes is fun.
Not so in Portland. Arguably one of their most beautiful stores, the staff in this location (and I’ve been on multiple occasions) is so lack luster, condescending and UN-​fun that I think I’d rather haul a brass Rhino across the country, rather than walk down the street and buy it.
I would say, window shop, then buy online. At least until they staff properly.

There is more money sloshing around Manhattan than the flooded compartments of the Titanic could hold, and the rest is in the Caymans. That means there is plenty of opportunity for individuals to pursue highly differentiated design codes for condo or coop decorating.
Jonathan Adler started with the inspiration of mid century modern, expanded upon it, and also pursued a slightly minimalized baroque. Because so many interior design magazines, websites and blogs are based in New York, his designs have infiltrated our subliminal sense of aesthetics.
Personally I think it is a good thing when a designer becomes a brand. Think Philippe Starck, Marc Newson, Karim Rashid, Ron Arad, Dieter Rams of course Charles Eames and the infamous, love him or hate him, Michael Graves. So Jonathan Adler as a brand is fine by me.
Adler finds manufacturers for his designs, and has brought some admirable sources into production, such as his wool pillows loomed in Peru and Nambu ironware.
The prices are New York prices, and maybe our Portland crafters can develop their own brands rifing mid century modern. Or maybe we are happy enough with our woodsman style, birds and Pendleton armor. Will Portland become a factory for Adler? And who knows, in the long term, this stuff might be collectable.
Whatever your interest, the store is worth a visit just to expand your design sense. And it’s a 5 star store tested by time and international reputation, though it’s a little UDO, unidentified design object, for Portland.
