Coffee is amazing! Love the Colombian, and the Brazil on espresso is the best Americano I’ve had in town! Plus everyone that works here is super nice!

I’ve been going to this coffee shop for a few weeks now. Their breakfast bagels are really good and their coffee is spot on. The atmosphere is chill and a great place to have meetings with my clients. The people that work there are always nice and say«Hi» to me when I wake in. Overall this is a good place.

Ok, I admit, this really isn’t a 5-star café, but I have to agree with the previous reviewer that slow service or the absence of coconut milk(oh, the horror!) does NOT warrant a 1-star review! 1-star reviews should be reserved for offensive, nearly catastrophic experiences at a restaurant or café… not somewhat weak coffee. I think this place deserves 3 or 4 stars, but I’m bumping it to 5 to make up for the other unfairly low marks. My biggest problem, as noted by other reviewers, was the slow service. The café was somewhat busy, but it seriously took about 10 minutes to get my decaf americano. I literally spent 5 of those minutes just staring at the barista… he seemed to be doing something, but clearly it wasn’t making my drink. It actually didn’t bother me too much since I’d planned on staying there a couple of hours anyway, but it was a bit baffling, considering a similar order at a busy Starbucks takes about 90 seconds to complete. My other problem was the internet. Yes, it’s available and free, but my connection was spotty and sometimes painfully slow. Still, that seems to be a common problem at local cafes, so I can’t fault them too much. On the upside though, I really loved the space… very open and inviting. It was a bit dark, but I actually found it to be kind of therapeutic… just really relaxing. The americano was delicious, and so I really can’t understand the complaints about weak flavor. My brew was bright and almost citrusy, and will definitely keep me coming back. And while the service was inexplicably slow, the workers were friendly enough. All in all, great coffee in a friendly atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

Kahveology is great space just to hang out. The coffee is great. Prices are fair… Honestly though, the best reason to come here is the staff. Justin is the man, and everybody that works here is just awesome. I go out of my way to stop in.

I have read the poor reviews on this place. One star because someone doesn’t like a particular cold brew and another person had to wait on one occasion. In my opinion(which I acknowledge that they have every right to share, too), there’s got to be a lot of problems for one star. I mean, huge, unforgivable problems. And/or over the course of time. One visit with an inconvenience or one poor experience is not one-star worthy, IMHO. Someone complained because they aren’t the business that the place used to be! As if that’s what should be up for review. It should be noted that this is still the Marsee Bakery family, by the way, so squelch it. All of that said, you might see I’ve given five stars. Currently, I’m the«Duchess» or whatever of this place, which is to say I’ve been here many times. And so I feel qualified to report on things. These are good people. They make good coffee. They have good things available. Personally, I carry coconut milk in a flask like a good Portland hipster. No, really, I do. If you expect all of your unique unicorn shit to be available everywhere you go, you are in for a bad time. Get a flask and hipster up. Carry your damn coconut milk. Carry(if you’re like me) your liquid Stevia. Have options available. Speaking of available things, they have good Smith teas, and they have good seating and taller tables. Wifi is available, and I regularly see people at work during the week. A good time can be had by all. And if you’ve got an adequate amount of patience in this YOU’VEGOTTHEWHOLEGOSHDARNINTERNETINYOURPOCKETANDSOMEONEISMAKINGYOU A FREAKIN’ LATTESOSHUTYOURPRIVILEGEDPIEHOLE world, then you’ll be fine. Fine, I might be too Portland with my flask. And maybe this review is kinda mean. But whatevs. There’s no consideration that Unilocal reviews can hurt a business. If you don’t like a place and it hasn’t truly hurt you – or you haven’t found that it’s got consistent problems, maybe just be quiet. Or leave an average review with constructive advice. Mine is to carry a flask with your unicorn food. This is a good café with good coffee and good community. Good. Fun people. And their succulent plants are adorable.

Authentic atmosphere, great owners who care about their customers, and are definitely setting up some cool social initiatives. They are a brand new startup so coffee snobs need to cut a break from their normal entitled experience at Starbucks. This is coffee, done right.

Oh I so want to like this place, but they make it hard. Such slow slow service for ok coffee & no coconut milk to choose from. I was there on a Saturday morning, no line & still it took almost 10minutes before they started to make our lattes. They had at least 4 people working, and it turned out they were finishing up a big to go food order, but when they finished it the person wasn’t even there waiting to get it. Two people had put all their attention & energy into food. Not sure what other guy was doing. Order/drink maker guy, kept taking orders as people trickled in. He also was Looking for cream cheese even though there were 3 other people working the food. I am confused why he didn’t start our drinks & keep talking to people as they came in, that is standard in coffee land. Unsure if I will try again. A few weeks ago It took a friend of mine 25minutes to get her drink, even though no line when she walked in.

This is a far cry from Marsee’s Baking company that was in this spot before this wreck of a place. With three customers in the whole shop I had to wait 5 minutes to even order a coffee as I am not sure they know what the word multi task is. I walked out without a peep as if they are use to people going across the street to Starbucks instead of trying to support a local business. Bad customer service= never again!

Love your bagel sandwiches. The speed of service is a dealbreaker. There seems to be one guy working there and if there are two or three people in front of me… it’s a 15 minute thing. I wish I had more time to hang out but I am a working girl. Please consider hiring some counter help. You are missing income because lots of people leave the line.

Hoo boy, did not enjoy this place. Just ordered a hot chocolate and a chai, and both were basically flavored water. The place looks cool at first glance, but then you sit at their ‘tables’, which look like they were taken from a construction site and had very little work on them to make them functional. Seriously, TONS of holes in them large enough for your cup to fall through, and just a bunch of food crumbs stuck in all the ridges that look like they’ve never been cleaned out. Just gross.

This place is so awesome. Awesome iced tea, bagels, beer(!), music, and most importantly, service. The guys working were super friendly and chill, and on top of things. The place was pretty empty, maybe 2 or 3 of us working on laptops, which was sort of perfect. I will definitely be coming back next time I’m in Sellwood.

Love this place so much. The staff is always so welcoming and patient. It’s a great vibe in here and continues to get better. It’s right down the street from the gym I work at, so in between personal training clients, I love coming in for a coffee and breakfast bagel. It’s consistently busy, but never overwhelming. I really enjoy this place. And I haven’t even begun about the coffee! It’s quite delicious. I always just get drip, and I love it. It’s the only place I’ve bought coffee beans from right after tasting my coffee. It’s delicious. And they do fancy latte art too, so on a fancy day I spice it up with that. They’re all great here. Come in and get a coffee! I’m sure you’ll run into me at some point.

Service was decent but, the coffee was really bad. This was my first visit and I’ll most likely won’t be coming back.

Bagels are delicious. Coffee is really not good. I’ve had iced and hot, and after trying both… I’d recommend just sticking with a Chao tea or the Starbucks up the street. Prices are fair but you will end up dumping your drink and buying another elsewhere. Kind of bummed since I want it to work so bad. Staff is nice, atmosphere is friendly and bustling most mornings. Good luck caffeine hounds!

I’m not sure why I’ve never noticed this place, but I finally had enough time to stop in on the way to work. Super nice staff, despite me being over tired and under caffeinated. Got an iced soy latte and could actually taste the espresso – delish! The inside is very cute and industrial. They’ve got some great art on the wall for sale. Seems like a great place to hang out for a bit. I looked at Unilocal after I stopped. Glad I didn’t get the coffee!

Quality coffee, bagel breakfast sandwiches, great atmosphere for working, and friendly baristas. This place is beautiful inside, with lots of natural light, plants, and a black/wood/leather motif. I once had a cappuccino that was subpar(fluffy style rather than traditional), but other than that, no complaints. Get the lavender cream! I don’t usually do «specials» when it comes to coffee, but this stuff is amazing. Cold brew, heavy cream, and a lavender infused whip cream. Gahhhhh!

Sorry. No. I ordered cold brew with syrup and room for cream. The staff were super friendly and prices were reasonable. You can pay with a card. The space is rustic and industrial. There are big windows. When I got my drink, I took a sip first and something was off. I assumed it was their version of vanilla or not enough syrup or something(that’s happened before to me). So I went over to the cream station and added cream, not much, a tbsp or two. Then my coffee turned light hazy peach. It was like tea. I tasted a few more sips trying to deduce what was wrong. I eventually decided it was super weak coffee. The barista had said something about their cold brew being like an americano where you add water so I thought I could ask for more concentrate, I believe those little brown bottles of Stumptown are concentrated so I thought maybe just gimme a splash more of black stuff. Both guys working were super friendly and wanted to fix it. He added another tbsp or two of what appeared to be maybe drip coffee(hope I’m wrong about that) and you could see the color change a little bit but it was still so light. Not black or brown. Like a faded out peach. And what he poured didn’t look dark enough either to be a concentrate. So I wasted $ 3 – 4. I walked over to another café and got a black iced coffee. I appreciate their attitude. I dislike the product and quality of the cold brew. Cold brew is a bigger deal than it ever has been, I didn’t feel like it should have been an issue. Or maybe if after I’d tasted with more«concentrate», they would have offered to make something else or refund or Idk, something. But I just left dissatisfied. I also attached a picture of their cold brew. Doesn’t it look light? Granted it’s backlit but still. Awfully red/orange. Not enough black for my taste.

This space has potential! I didn’t even realize that there was a coffee shop previously at that location. Walking around the area on a sunny day with my siblings and wanted an iced coffee… there is a Starbucks at the corner but noticed Kahveology and decided to give it a try. It wasn’t busy and the space was large. They had a good number of tables for studying/working. The server was very friendly and talked with me while he made my drink – an iced soy mocha. I was really confused when he put out a regular iced mocha and no one picked it up. Then moments later, my iced soy mocha was made so he probably realized he forgot the soy. The décor felt unfinished, I am not sure if they were going for that look or in the middle of remodeling. I definitely will come back to check out the finished product.

Marsee’s has been sold to a new coffee place, Khavology. They are currently undergoing in house renovations complete with concrete tables. I am excited to have a new place to work at in the hood. The coffee is pretty good, better than Starbuck’s across the street, but not as good as Either/Or over on SE13th. That being said, Either/Or has no space to work in. They brew their own Khava. They also continue to sell bagles and Marsee’s baked goods as upon inquiry the owner is the nephew of the previous Marsee owner. Last I inquired, about 2 weeks ago, they said renovation would be done in 6 weeks so I am hopeful within the next month we will have a new coffee space for virtual working.
