Lifetime Exteriors

This review is based on a conversation I had with their sales person, «Bo.» On the basis of that conversation, I decided not to hire them! I felt I was given a «sell job» that bordered on unethical business practices, as the salesperson essentially used «scare tactics» to try to convince me that all my windows were poorly installed — even though he had not seen my house! I had called to inquire about a leak repair between my Hardie Plank and a window. It turns out they don’t do repairs for just one window, only whole houses. The salesman tried to convince me that I needed ALL my windows done (to the tune of about $ 13,000), SIGHT UNSEEN! He said that townhouses built in the early 2000’s had lots of «construction defects» and that my townhouse «almost certainly» didn’t have metal flashing around the windows (which, in fact, it turns out it does — and the top of the line, not cheap stuff). He also told me that all the other windows could be leaking (and/​or would be soon), even if I only saw one leak. He talked at length about building contractors doing things poorly and on the cheap.
If I hadn’t happened to have a neighbor who is an architect and builder, I might have fallen for the scare tactics and «sell job.» This neighbor came over to take a look. It turns out a gutter had failed and caused a problem. The windows here turn out to be done well, with top of the line flashing, moisture barrier, etc. The experience with Lifetime’s salesman felt creepy.

Over 65 homeowners in our development sued the builder. Lifetime Exteriors offered discounted rates for repairs after the legal settlement. It took 4 or 5 months to get to my home on the list, but once they started, Lifetime personnel worked very quickly and efficiently to complete the repairs. They replaced all the siding. They put in a waterproofing barrier behind the siding and replaced the waterproofing structure around the windows. They replaced most of the windows and the patio door with more energy efficient windows. Prices for windows were competitive. Siding was high quality and low future maintenance. New exterior light fixtures were installed (I provided fixtures). They painted the garage door, front door and porch, and other areas so that the whole exterior of the house looked new. Each day they cleaned up any mess from the day. They were very conscientious about coming back to fix little problems (such as fixing a damaged screen). It was a joy to work with Lifetime Exteriors. Only problem I had was being #65 on the list, but neighbors did not have such extensive work done so that was reasonable.

The bad reviews here are surprising and seem like they cant possibly be for these guys! They are great. We used Lifetime Exteriors in the Spring of 2013 for a huge project. We redid our roof, siding, had a patio installed, and had a fence finished. The experience was wonderful. We dealt with their owner, Jay (Jeremy) and loved him. He personally met with us on a number of occasions prior to the project started, worked within our price constraints, followed up personally a number of times throughout the project, and his team did excellent work.
We are currently starting our second large project with them (full siding replacement at our rental property) and again they came in right where we hoped on price and have been very responsive throughout the bid process. We start work in a couple weeks and I have no doubt it will go great. Their work is outstanding and their customer service is top notch. Highly recommended.

Many folks in our condo association had their windows replaced by this company. To a large extend a number of my neighbors and I made the decision to replace the windows based on being told that we would get energy rebates if we had the windows replaced. After the work was completed and we applied to the two entities we were told to contact for rebates we found out that we in fact did not qualify for energy rebates. Needless to say not getting the rebate ended up putting a number of the neighbors in dire financial circumstances. UGLY.

«No high-​pressure sales tactics», that’s what the website says. What would you call repeatedly ringing my doorbell and when I don’t answer (because I’m trying to put my 1 year old down for a nap), pounding on my door? Yes, sales guy, I opened the door purely to get you to stop pounding on it. Do you really think anyone is going to trust major renovation to someone going door to door?
