I really enjoy coming here. I’m glad they stayed near campus. Their food is amazingly delicious, the staff is super friendly, and quick.

Ordered the daily special this summer while on vacation. Tacos autenticos I think. Tasty. Meat was well-seasoned and moist. Cilantro and onions were fresh. Several selections of salsa. Reasonable prices. When you can’t be in Mexico City for fresh tacos al pastor, this is a solid substitute.

I like my burritos to resemble small babies in size, not because I am a creepy cannibal but because I want my burrito to last two meals. I enjoy my burritos so much, I don’t want the enjoyment to stop after lunch. That’s just wrong. This food cart makes sure the party lasts after work, or sometimes as my fourth meal when I joyfully find it has been hidden in my purse. I may be revealing too many gross habits in one review, so let me get to the point… Yummy. Freakin’. Burritos. 5 – 6 bucks. Friendly, FAST service. And that’s all you really need to know. I was going to attempt a pun here, but I think you get the point about the loco thing. Don’t be loco, eat loco, etc etc.

Loco Locos was the first cart that fit the bill when my avocado craving struck while downtown. The menu was pretty standard and boring, but the fajitas boasted guacamole, so I ordered it. Service was pleasant and quick, but I got charged 50 cents extra for no reason. On top of that, my food came out with none of the green goodness I was hoping for and was rather bland. Won’t be back.

A Haiku Review of Loco Locos: The«Scotsman» was closed. Went with the shrimp burrito. End result: Tasty.

Solid Mexican cart, but doesn’t necessarily stand out in the crowded Mexican cart field. I had the Tacos for $ 5. A little cheaper, and I would highly recommend this cart.

It was lunch time for the civilized world which roughly translates to breakfast time for me. My friend from Tacoma wanted to check out the«food cart craze» that he reads about in Portland so I took him to the 9th and Alder cart zone. Not sure if this pod has a catchy name or not, but I feel that it has got to be one of the largest pods(over two blocks) and seems to grow in between each time I visit. Our team had four members and after doing an investigative loop to scout our options we split up and everyone followed the little voice in their stomach to whichever cart called to them. For me it was breakfast burrito time, which almost always translates into me not being in an adventurous mood and probably a bit hungover as well. Loco Locos didn’t have a line and had a massive menu, which I didn’t really look at because with a menu that big they had to have some sort of breakfast chorizo burrito. The burrito was decently tasty, filled me up without overstuffing me, and the price was on the cheapish side. Nothing about my experience was bad, but I am not going to go out of my way to recommend the Loco to friends. Generally I feel that all cart pods should have at least one Mexican place and Loco Locos does the job for 9th and Alder just fine.

The place is Loco Locos Burritos, but being the rebel I am I went against the grain and ordered tacos. To be specific I got the 2 taco combo which comes with the usual rice and beans(with some cheese over them). For the tacos I opted for the shredded beef and they topped them with pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. The rice and beans was pretty standard. Nothing amazing but it sufficed. The tacos were dang good though. The beef was tender and moist and was covered in crisp and fresh pico. The hot sauce had a nice zing to it and made the meal. Really impressed. Only thing that would have been nice is some chips for the little bit of hot sauce I had left, but that’s just being picky.

With so many Mexican(more specifically: burrito) stands around town, it’s hard to stand out in the crowd. While Loco Locos doesn’t catch the eye or have a to-die-for flavor, it has enough of an authentic flair to be able to predict if you’ll like a familiar dish or not. I got the chicken fajita burrito. My friend put it best: they seem to make the food with lard, which is a step up in flavor from other places. Not super cheap: my burrito was $ 5.75. They’re menu is overwhelmingly huge, both lunch and breakfast. I simpler menus, but can’t argue with selection.

I know there has been at least one week where I have gotten at least six burritos from this cart(breakfast and lunch). It is nice that they are open by at least 9 when you are in the mood for a good breakfast burrito. There is always a line at lunch time but they pump the burritos out quickly and the wait is never long.

Best Burrito Cart on 9th and Alder. I know that sounds like narrowing it down a bit, but 2 new burrito carts have moved in, Tito’s and some other joint, and they just aren’t nearly as good. The Pastor Burrito might be the best Burrito in Portland, Their Fish Tacos are straight out of ensenada, and their tortas would bring the most native mexican right back to the mother land. Plus they toast the tortillas to perfection! Get some Orchada and this would be the perfect whole in the wall burrito cart.

$ 5 for a big, juicy, gutt bomb burrito? Are you LOCO? Oh… wait… never mind… you are. Your name even says so. So why would I expect anything different? Another gem in the long line of carts that makes me excited at the prospect of working back downtown again, Loco Locos can definitely deliver. I enjoyed my asada burrito sin frijoles y arroz. It was good, but not great. The beef lacked much in the way of seasoning. Other than that, it was decent quality meat, a good tortilla, and they didn’t put lettuce in my burrito. For all that, at $ 5, I feel confident in my 4-star review. Next time you are gazing indecisively down the seemingly never-ending horizon of food carts on 5th, trying to decide what’s for lunch today, why not go a little Loco. Andele!!!

My husband went to a different food stand for his burrito and was less than impressed. We saw a lot of people lining up here, and he wished he had ordered from here instead. He decided to get a taco(this is after eating a burrito, falafel sandwich, a cupcake, a piece of Vienna cheesecake, and a crêpe. To be fair, we did share all but the falafel and burrito) to see if he should have eaten here. The carnitas taco was really quite good, hot and fresh, with lots of sour cream, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and tasty meat. It is a little drippy, which is typical for fatty meat, but can be difficult to walk and eat. Given that it is a food cart and people aren’t going to be sitting down eating, they may want to cut down on the drip factor. Overall, it was really good, and he probably should have gotten a burrito here instead.

Right up to the moment I clicked four stars I was torn by this place. The counter dude was quick and friendly. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but well within limits for freshly prepared goods. The burrito. Some people would be tempted to call it greasy. They would be, I believe, incorrect. It is certainly saturated with fluids, but they’re flavorful fluids, so even if they are technically grease based, they are conveyors of taste. I got the ground beef and it was also loaded with rice and bits of all the other stuff that makes burritos yummy. But perfectly balanced. For instance there was cilantro, which to me just tastes like soap, but if I hadn’t visually identified it, I wouldn’t have known. So whatever it brought to the party(bonus points if you can correctly source that phrase) melded in perfectly. I would advise anyone eating at Loco Locos to get more than a single 12oz can of pop. Some serious washing down is in order. And the gutbomb was less than $ 5. You can’t be seriousl I dug it. Go find it and chow down. So why was I torn? Because when I was eating it, I wasn’t thinking, «Man, this is a great burrito.» But when I was finished, and in retrospect, every bite was awesome. I think I wanted sour cream. I’m such a freakin’ gringo. Oh well. :-D

Holy mother these burritos are huge and tasty! And affordable. I mean you may think, almost 5 bucks for a burrito? No way braaah. But wait! Little did you know this mother could feed a small nation! Seriously, you would have to be some kind of crazy hungry to down one of these in one sitting. I had the carne asada, which doesn’t make it to the top of my list for carne asada, thus the minus a star, but no one else around me ordered asada, so maybe that’s not their specialty(I heard lots of Chorizo orders while I was there…). But aside from not approving the asada, everything else was great, the beans and rice how they should be, and most importantly, a freshly toasted tortilla… mmmm…My problem is I love that toasted tortilla soooo much that when I am too full to finish, I still try to nibble on tortilla, but that has serious implications for the structural integrity of a burrito, so don’t follow in my footsteps children… Just wrap the burrito and wait until later, the tortilla will still be there.

Now, I can’t claim to have partaken in the pleasures of even ¼ of the Mexican joints that Our Fair City offers… but even if I had I think Loco Locos would still place in the top 10. Along with their delicious food cart brethren on the stretch of SW Alder St. downtown between SW11th&9th, Loco Locos cranks out delicious, fresh, very inexpensive(did I mention delicious) burritos with flair. So far I’ve only had the Chicken Fajita burrito and the Pastor burrito, but both have been perfect. Gorgeous fresh flour tortillas, super tasty, fresh ingredients… the burritos are also the perfect size — not too big, not too small, just enough to leave you full for the better part of the day without making you sick. If you like to hot stuff, be sure to ask for the special habanero sauce when they ask you if you want red or green sauce(they don’t mention the orange)! Oh yeah, all this for a fiver. Can’t go wrong!
