Unfortunately I went looking for this place yesterday and it is no longer there. Tons of other great carts nearby, but I was sad to not see this one there.

She scaled back to her Brother’s cart until she can find another cart. Smaller menu, sadly, but the Chicken Mokeka is still good.

Wow. So third time was definitely the charm. This place receives the elusive 5 star rating. Had the tri-tip steak today — amazing. She cooked it to order. I said medium rare and that shit came out tender with just a touch of blood. A big piece of steak, too, and it tasted great! Still loving the rice and with beans and a viniagrette salad, how could I resist? I am slowly but surely falling in love with this place.

* Again, everything in perspective * Ok, I mentioned in my Unilocal of La Jarochita( ) that I’m upwardly biased to any non-hot dog street food since I live in Vancouver, British Columbia home of everything hot dog on a cart. This Brazilian cart apparently replaced a Mexican cart and rounded out the offerings in this pod of street carts. I had the grilled tri-tip plate which came with a nicely flavoured rice that had been cooked in stock instead of water, black beans that had big chunks of flavourful beef in it, a lovely diced salad with a slight vinegar dressing, and a tri-tip steak that was served cooked to order(rare for me). For some strange reason I thought the steak was going to be thin slices. But I was pleasantly surprised that it was an actual little steak! The steak was nicely seasoned(slightly too much salt for my taste, but in keeping with other Brazilian meat I’ve had which seems to be heavier on the salt than I usually would do myself). The steak was better than I would have expected for a street cart. Granted, it isn’t a fine steakhouse steak, but considering the entire plate with all the trimmings was a whopping $ 6 it was excellent value. Also got to try a bit of the daily special chicken and vegetable stew which was nicely seasoned with a Brazilian flavour profile. It had nice big chunks of chicken that were tender and not overcooked as they can sometimes get in a stew. It was served with a nice portion of that same flavourful rice cooked in stock. Also a steal at $ 6. Since Portland has all of this nice variety in street carts, and carts in theory are mobile(although many of these look like they haven’t moved in 10 years!) can’t you give a few up and send them to Canada? I’m sure we can arrange for you to get some maple cured salmon in return? Fair trade, no?

This Brazilian cart replaced a Mexican cart, which is good new to me because there are more than enough Mexican carts in this pod. I got the Chicken Mokeka: Chicken stew with coconut milk, veggies and rice. Pretty simple, but a different taste than any other cart can provide. They had other options, so check out the photos to squint and read the menu. Prices range from $ 5.00 — 6.50.
