I’m a big fan of this place… service is great, bartenders always very friendly. They have a ton of board games, a jukebox, a pool table… endless entertainment! Also a nice patio area in the back, complete with a propane«fire» for heat in the winter. Yes, it’s small… but it’s a perfect neighborhood spot!

Stopped by for an after work drink and was amazed by the intriguing details of the place. Warm and welcoming from the first moment inside the door. Looking forward to my next visit.

Above average bar. Ended new years here and everyone was quite nice. Second visit mirrored the first. Friendly staff, appropriate pricing and it was clean. The patio was nice and inviting. I will come back when I am east of 57th

Started out GREAT. Jello-shots with pop rocks? Banana cream pudding shots? Yes! Jukebox… yes! We were the ruling dee-jays for two hours. It was a family night. Four almost 50 year olds and our 21 year old kids. Then some freaky guy came weaving in drunk… pool stick in case.(And yet… he was served a drink. He couldn’t STAND up straight) My daughter had her name on the board as the next pool player. Her name comes up and suddenly it’s Pool Shark Alley. A regular and his drunk ass weaving friend(we were told they were regulars by another regular) got up into my daughter’s grill, she had to hold him back and eventually push him away, my husband had to get involved and FINALLY the bartender helped out, but only to say my daughter ‘used hands’. WHATTHEHELL? A bunch of people came over and said those guys were ‘in the pool league’ and ‘ran the place’. The bartenders were clearly protecting them and not us. The people actually following the rules. I have no clue how something so good, turned so bad very quickly. One bartender was apologetic, the other was clueless as to why we were upset. The fact that she said my daughter was ‘handsy’ when another patron was screaming in her face is MINDBOGGLING. We will NOT be back even though we were initially excited to find such a great new place just blocks from our home. The night was ruined, but we ended it at Peter’s at 57th and Fremont with a great pool table, no drama.

My sister and brother in law have lived in Portland for less than 2 months and have been on the hunt for their favorite local spots. In the few days I was there, we must have been to at least 10 places, with this one being at the top of their list. We immediately made our way out back as we had two dogs in tow. Because it was a cold evening, we were the only patrons back there. We played board games(the bar has a ton to choose from!), enjoyed the most delicious invention ever: PUDDINGSHOTS! and ogled at th variety of food from the menu. Drinks were priced right and the male and female bartender on duty that night were friendly. Mellow atmosphere with lots to do(pool, juke box, board games), and a nice variety of food and drink. The back yard option was one of the major selling points for me.

K, so we finally got to try their pudding shots and… yup! They’re amazing! I had the lemon cherry which was off the chain and the wife had the pumpkin something that she loves and I thought was nice but I’m not a fan of pumpkin so… yeah these are a huge hit with us! We just love this bar!

We’ve lived in the neighborhood for quite some time; Watched this place go downhill for the past couple of years. This place used to be the friendly local neighborhood watering hole, but was turned off from it after receiving shade from a bar tender when my sister and I had a drink in honor of our grandmother… The bartender, we’ve nicknamed her Sunshine(always rude and cranky), responded to us mockingly, «like, oh my god, life is so hard.» We’ve given Hanna’s a couple chances since then, but they’ve driven out some great bartenders. Used to be such a good vibe. We didn’t come back for some time and wanted to give it another shot. New crew, and some advice to our bartender from last night: rape jokes are never funny coming from your bartender(clearly doesn’t know the neighborhood) — especially when this has been an issue for my neighbors in this bar… Won’t be supporting this business again…

Leaving the airport this was the first place I visited in Portland ever! I asked for whatever and I received a play on a whiskey sour. Everything was freshly made including the fruit freshly squeezed to make the homemade concoction. I had it first with their rail then with Bulliet rye. The mix tasted better with the rail whiskey. Oh an they put fresh ginger in the drink which tasted great. They have video gambling and keno. I played pool. The jukebox was cd retro with a decent variety. I ate a buffalo chicken wrap which was panini pressed. I enjoyed it. My friend has chicken ranch. The mix of people were interesting and friendly. One guy explained that he was from LA living in his friends garage sleeping on the floor. I enjoyed myself and this wee hole in the wall. It was very inviting I thought.

What you want in a «Dive» bar – although this place isn’t really divy – is a location where douche-bags can’t find, nestled in walking distance in your neighborhood, and cheap. Although I can’t attest to how cheap Mad Hanna was(I don’t remember checking out) its a picturesque portrait of the PDX dive, complete with flowing PBR/Ranier, Gangs of New York mustaches galore, and a pool table.

This is a great dive bar. It hits all the right marks of a top notch drinking hole. Go for it.

Two words: Pudding. Shots. Also, a really cool and cost-effective dive bar with artisan grilled cheese.

One of the best places ever. Great drinks, better people, and solid(fast) food. I want to be buried in the back patio under the Ping pong table

This place is pathetic. It would be an ideal location for a bar rescue episode. The female owner runs around grooming all the female customers. The food is terrible and I don’t recommend it. The place is filled with regulars smoking right in front of the entrance. The regular customers are all unfriendly hipsters, and run people who just come in for a drink out of the place, and make them realize that there’s plenty of other places close by.

love! the music isn’t too loud. the service is friendly and local. the food is… well, let’s just say who cares if you could make it at home! they make it the way you would anyway! and they use top notch yummy ingredients and have their own divy twist to bar food. it’s way better than«we just have to carry food since we have a liquor license» if you live close consider a pretty awesome neighborhood bar for being so far northeast!

I came through Portland on a West Coast road trip. I stayed at an Air BnB spot about a 10 walk away from this place. Being from Los Angeles this place really filled that empty hole. Amazing on the spot service from the Bartendar Mathew(No need to be a neighborhood regular), good beer, fresh fruit cocktails and a juke box with some Elvis Costello, Sam Cooke, Billy Holiday, The Replacements. The crowd was diverse in age and style. Being the only non-white pair in the bar, we felt very welcomed and served. This place will definitely be a future stop for me.

Mad Hanna is a great neighborhood bar! All of their house cocktails are worth the wait, usually I lean towards beer or a straight drink like a whiskey on the rocks but NEVER at Mad Hanna! I LOVE their fresh squeezed margaritas and their signature cocktails here, specifically the one called«lime in the coconut» is delicious. I do not typically like coconut, but they really hit the nail on the head with this one– its is a perfect balance and SUCH a great summer quencher. a special note: check out the jukebox here– it has such a great mix, everything from punk to classic country to ROBYN! don’t be afraid to throw in a few quarters and dance, also don’t be shocked if strangers join in too! its a real friendly place :)
