There are quiet a few Thai places on Alberta. This is by far my favorite. The prices are good and the food is consistently delicious. Great ambience for a date too. And they even have some cool mixed drinks. Its only ever crowded on the weekend and even then its worth the short wait. I like the intimacy of the weekdays though when it seems empty.

The food here is amazing!!! There is just so much love cooked into it. The cooks and owner are such wonderful people and are always friendly. It is close to another popular thia restaurant so it does not get as many diners but people should really give it a try! Why go to the same place when thier is magically delicious food around the corner! They are also new and need the word to spread around about how great there food is!

We had the Pad Kee Mao and Pumpkin Curry. The Pad was great. The spice was perfect. The Pumpkin curry was also really good. My friend(dining with me) loves the Kao Soi. It is super tasty and surprisingly authentic. The chilis were apparently a new batch. Fresh spice. Lighting is good too!

Most average pad Thai I’ve had in a long time… like another reviewer mentioned, it’s pretty empty at prime time dinner on Alberta. It’s quite nice inside, relaxing with quiet background music. The service is nothing special with no questions about preferred spice which is common in these places. My pad thai tasted an awful lot like sugar and fish sauce and I expect a more complex flavor from this dish — as I’ve said before this is the item I usually order on a first visit to a new(to me) Thai place, and I don’t think I’ll be returning, although the family joining me seemed to enjoy their dishes so I guess I’m just a picky girl??? 24 hours later I’m feeling ok with this review because for the price of the meal it should have been better, and the service should have been more attentive. In short, it was bland– just like this review. I really wish I had better things to say, from the décor, it’s obvious someone poured their heart into this place. Perhaps I was just unfortunate in my timing. Regardless, there are too many other Thai places in this town that are better.

Great place! I got take out from here for dinner. The cashier was so genuinely sweet that it made the experience before I even tried the food. I had two soups and pad thai. The soups were excellent, pad thai also great, especially for being modified to vegan and gluten free. Good quality, very satisfying. Happy I chose this restaurant.

I have had their red curry, pumpkin curry, & fresh rolls — my only critique would be that the fresh rolls are wrapped in plastic wrap and then placed into a paper box. I’m not a huge fan of the plastic wrap because you can’t recycle it, and it doesn’t feel as fresh — even though the food tastes very fresh. They are always very friendly to me, provide me plenty of water, and have nice AC(necessary in the heat). At least one of the servers is improving her English, but she always gets my orders right. But perhaps that is why someone noticed the servers talking to each other — sometimes it seems like she is clarifying something. They let you spice up your food 1 – 5 and 3+ is pretty spicy, which is awesome! Their lunch buffet is nice too — comes with soup and a roll. The dinner portion is wonderfully massive.

Went here for lunch with three friends and we all loved our food! Between us we had Rad Na and stir fries with white and brown rice and a thai iced teas. All was wonderful, especially the kind of brown rice they have which is kind of red and my favorite. The sauce was a little bit salty but using extra rice fixed it. Good portions, took some home. Great service.

Nice venue for conversation over a mediocre thai meal. Nice chill music and plenty of seating. Good for relax but not a destination for a thai meal. SERVICE The service was strange. We were left totally alone and had to call our server over to order, despite being the only ones in the restaurant. And then while the server took our order she interupted us to make conversation across the room with the bartender/another server while we were ordering. And she couldn’t answer our questions about the ingredients on the menu. She was very pleasant in personality though. FOOD In general, the foods weren’t exciting or well-flavored and were nothing to write home about. Tom yum(scallop) soup is my go-to for thai and what I compare thai restaurants with. This one was watery and didn’t have any interesting flavors. There were plenty of scallops, which was nice, but they were chewy like they’d recently been frozen. We got 2 curries. The(chicken) pumpkin curry was delicious. The eggplant pork stir fry curry was salty and had little flavor beyond that. Pad se ew(pork) was totally fine. But again, nothing special. And no interesting hot sauces or mixes. I would return only if I needed a relaxing place to sit while getting a lassi or other drink on Alberta. I wouldn’t return for the food.

Excellent pad thai and pumpkin curry. Really nice seating. Friendly staff too. Happy hour 3 to 6 with great discounts on dishes. They have brown rice, I love that.

This place was overall okay. The service wasn’t super fast, but decent; The staff was friendly; the place was clean; but, the food was average. We ordered number 43, the drunken noodle with medium spice and tofu, in addition to number 51, the basil spice rice, but neither were really that spicy. Maybe they were being kind on the spice meter with us. We instantly found that both dishes seemed to have a lot of salt in them — I think if they had less salt that they would definitely have tasted better. I’ve eaten at a lot of Thai places and I would say it averages three out of five stars. They do get a huge bonus for being open on Christmas day evening and having smiles on their faces!

I just wanted Thai food. Pretty simple, so I’m diving right in. Swimming in a beautiful tomato and cream broth, the tom kha I enjoyed, had huge pieces of green onions, tomatoes, chicken, onions and mushrooms. I ordered a small and it was more than ample to start my meal out right. It wasn’t too cold out but a warm cup of soup still helps make things better. You got hints of the Kaffir limes and just a great lushness to the broth. I haven’t had much better tom kha around. Around when my soup came out, my meal came as well. Too fast. The woman running the place noticed this and quickly took it away apologizing for bringing out my meal so soon. In fact she waited until I was finished with my soup and had the kitchen prepare me a new dinner. Not reheat the old. Very, very cool. As for my meal. Pad Kee Mao(Drunken Noodles) with pork. I love those wide noodles you get at Thai places. Basically I could have had anything on the noodle menu, but as long as it had the wide noodles, I’d eat it. Mine was a bit spicy, which I like, with broccoli, red and green peppers, onions, sprouts and lots of pork. Like most Asian restaurants they give you enough food to last two meals and this was no exception. Granted the soup filled me up quite a bit, but I had plenty of noodles left for a good lunch. Pleasant atmosphere and of course an attentive staff, this place is also pretty close to home, so I know I’ve got a good place to go to in a pinch. Mae Ploy is yet another great Thai food restaurant you need to add to your list. Enjoy.

Well, I read some great reviews and few bad ones about this place here. It was on my mileage program and close to my home so decided to give it a try for lunch today. We were the first customers when it opened at 11. We ordered lunch specials. I ordered the sweet chili paste cashew dish with scallops. First of all, the stir-fry was lukewarm, not hot and the scallops were little undercooked. The sauce was too salty and tasted little off from the sweet chili paste I’m used to, The rice was overcooked lump. I took a bite of the«egg roll» — more like spring roll because they’re small and you can get two bites — was tasteless but the soup was pretty good. Overall, I was disappointed since I’ve been craving Thai food and I knew I could get better quality for the same price from the other Thai places on Alberta.

I love Mae Ploy. I get a little teary-eyed when it looks empty inside. For some reason its a bit of an underdog of Thai on Alberta but I think its the BEST! This place has some different options than the usual Thai food on Alberta or in Portland. The place is clearly family-owned and the service is great. They are family or date or alone friendly. We go about once a week because we live in the neighborhood and its consistently delicious. I highly recommend Mae Ploy to one and all.

All I ordered was a cap and coke which is $ 6. My friend ordered the same and we asked to split the bill. They charged me $ 8 and my friend $ 4. I guess they can’t do math here.

Whenever I eat at a Thai restaurant for the first time, I always order the same thing to gauge the quality against other establishments, the noodle dish Pad See Ew. I ordered take out from Mae Ploy recently and was pleased to see the Pad See Ee was a little bit cheaper than surrounding Thai restaurants. Apparently cheaper is not always better, as I found out later after I bit into the undercooked wide flat noodles comprising 80% of my meal. The extra chewiness from the undercooked noodles from this simple, delicious dish really wasn’t a pleasant experience, as they should have a soft, delicate, almost melt in your mouth texture. Mae Ploy failed my taste test and I now will be ordering noodles elsewhere. Ps. I also ordered their steamed dumplings, but I have no complaints there. They were pretty tasty!

This place seemed promising at first. My buddy and I went in for the first time for a beer and some Thai food. 10 minutes after being seated we had not been attended to. After taking our beer and food order we waited nearly fifteen minutes for a beer. Then, after nearly 45 minutes my friends food was served to him. Meanwhile I say hungry with nothing in front of me. I did not receive my food for nearly an hour. Do not eat here. They are incompetent at best.

After two more wonderful visits, my girlfriend & I are ready to name Mae Ploy our favorite Thai restaurant in Portland for their excellently prepared, abundantly sized & competitively priced vegan dishes, as well as their cleanliness & swift, friendly service. We’ve had the green curry, the pad cashew nut stir-fry, the pad thai, & the garlic & pepper stir-fry — each dish has been above reproach. We’ll visit often.

Alberta St. is one of Portland’s restaurant rows with scores of excellent places. I popped in at Mae Ploy and it only being 11:20, I was the first person there. Cool, my pick of any table in the place. Of course, service was on point as was the only one there for 20 minutes. I have been trying Khao Soi around town to see who had the best one in town in my eyes. The presentation was the best I have seen yet and the broth was not too sour or rich. My issue was not with the protein content(beef) as there was alot in the soup. It was the beef itself and it was way too chewy. There were also too many fried egg noodles on top for the amount of broth and ingredients. Bowl size was also on the small side but in their favor, it was 10.95 vs. 12.95 a couple of doors down at another Thai place. The service and atmosphere were good enough to return and try a different protein and tell them light on the fried egg noodles.
