The food is awesome. The waitstaff is usually excellent. I went in a few weeks ago to pick up a to-go order and it was made wrong. I said I understood and just wanted to order a new one. No hassle. I didn’t want any drama or problems – I just wanted thai food. The girl who took my order came over and was ridiculously rude and passive aggressive. I ended up just wanting to take my mis-written order and leave, and I told her as much. She tried to hold onto the bag. I had to literally PULL my already purchased bag of food from her hands. It’s too bad because I’ve been going there almost 3 years and had been borderline evangelical about how great their food and service was. I posted a google review and they paid to have it removed rather than make contact with a customer who obviously had a bad experience with their terrible waitress. Which leads me to believe they don’t care about my experience at their restaurant at all – or yours for that matter!

I came during happy hour. The drinks, made by Faye, we’re absolutely exceptional. She chilled the martini glasses, and strained everything like a pro. The drink selection is adequate, with a focus on delicious whiskey and good vodka. Additionally, she was a pleasure to talk to, and has a thriving family business thanks to her and her parents intuitive business decisions. The setting is very well designed with wood décor and Asian accents, like bamboo. Everything is clean. I even watched a waitress walk around before rush hour started and dusted the décor. Faye gave me a few egg rolls on the house, because I had three of their tasty mixed drink specials, and she assumed I might want something nice to settle my stomach before I head home on the train, even though the kitchen was closed at that moment. Faye described to me in detail the origin of their main Thai sauce, and how her parents closely guard it, and won’t even tell her how it is made, so the parents come in and cook it up daily for the prep. I wish I could have staid for dinner, but I had to go.

This is a very nice Thai restaurant near downtown that hit all of the marks – good food, affordable prices, very nice, prompt and attentive service, and a beautiful interior, plus the convenience of being very close to a light rail stop. I came here for lunch with a friend while in town for a meeting; we got on the Red Line near the Convention Center and then jumped off a few stops later with no real idea of where we were going, but we saw this place very close to the stop and gave it a try based on the good reviews. The interior is beautifully decorated and spaced very comfortably – even though many other tables were occupied, we were able to chat with ease because we had our own little spot to ourselves. My friend got the Pad Gai with squid and I got the Gang Garee with tofu; friend asked for very spicy but the server double-checked to be sure, telling us that their spice level can be pretty off the charts, so we both settled on medium. My Gang Garee(yellow curry with potatoes, carrots, peppers and onions) was excellent, although I might have liked a little more tofu in it but no biggie. After the first bite of her dish, my friend said«Wow, this is really good,» and then about 10 minutes later, she again said, without prompting, «Wow, this is really good»…if you’re still thinking that enough to say it aloud well into your eats, then they must be pretty tasty! The meal(including a Thai iced tea) came to around $ 20 and was well worth it, and everything arrived quickly too – menus, water, orders, food, check – they definitely understand the whole«lunch hour» concept here. I also get the feeling that they pay attention to the little details, not in a way that is manic or obsessive or anything; it’s more in their overall approach so it just blends easily into every bit of the experience of coming here. Super impressive. Yay!

For some reason I thought a early dinner on a Saturday at a popular Thai place could potentially be busy. I made a reservation and lo behold that wasn’t necessary. My friend and I arrived around 4:35pm yesterday and there was one other party. The place was pretty much empty. As soon as we walked in the hostess seated us right away. I asked for 2 glasses of water and 2 Thai ice teas. Not even a minute goes by and the drinks were severed. The Thai ice tea was so good and it’s only $ 2.50(best price ever). Just about every time I eat Thai, a Thai iced tea is present along with Drunken Noodles(great pairing). We shared the following dishes: — Spring roll — nothing special — Drunken noodles w/medium spice — this dish was filled with so many flavors(spicy, sweet and salty). It was almost like there was fireworks in my mouth. I enjoyed every bite of the Drunken noodles. — Bamboo Thai Seafood — this dish was decently good but not great. My friend wanted to try so we ordered it. I had some but told my friend to finish the rest. The red curry broth had good flavor but not my type of a dish. The décor of this establishment is well put together. It’s one of the nicer Thai places I’ve been too. I love the bamboo and elephants. The restroom is a bit odd in my opinion. The restrooms are near the bar and there are separate areas for males and females. The first thing you see heading the restroom is the double sinks. The men’s is on the left and women on the right. Imagine using the restroom, opening a door to exit than washing your hands in parallel with the opposite sex. This also means if you need to touch up your makeup, others to watch leaving no privacy. Due to the set up of the restrooms I’m only giving 4 stars. The hostess and waitress were both excellent staying on top of everything. Overall, I had a good experience and would love to try more of their dishes. The establishment is in a good location. It’s clean and the food is authentic. Parking maybe a challenge just like any business in downtown. The max is always an option to avoid parking.

I went in to order a thai coffee but they were out. I looked at the menu for a few minutes and another lady came out and asked what I would like to order, I mentioned they were out of the coffee I wanted and we had a pleasant little chat. She even recommended some nearby thai places. I was about to leave but realized I had to use the restroom. She said I couldn’t because their policy was that restrooms are reserved for paying customers. I was taken aback, I pointed out that it was not my fault I was not a paying customer and that I would of been if they had what I wanted. She still refused so I asked if I could speak to a manager, maybe they’d allow me to sit down on that toilette just a few feet away from me. That’s when she informed me that she was the owner and that she would not allow me to, and that she was so sorry. Shaking my head in disbelief I went to leave, I informed her as I did that I would not come back. …Seriously?

Food is fine, pricing is ABSURD. I ordered an appetizer of shrimp skewers. $ 8 on the menu. I got FIVETINYSHRIMP and it rang up for $ 8.50. They«reserve the right to change the price without notice.» Cheap antics.

This place was totally empty when we are here, and we couldn’t figure out why! It was some of the best drunken noodles I’ve had in a long time.

Best Thai food in Portland. Don’t think twice about coming, just do it. This is my first Unilocal review and I had to leave one because we frequent this place. The staff and owners are very attentive, remember your name, favorite drinks, etc. Truly a gem. If you like sweet refreshing drinks, get the ginger lemonade, it’s delicious.

We came in mid day, it was slow we were one of only two tables. We were sat and left with menus a little too long, it seemed to be shift change for their servers. I always get Thai basil and my fiancé always gets pad Thai, both were good but we have had better. One of our friends order veggie delight with chicken but received it with tofu. The Thai basil was bland and the service was slow. Just not the 5 star place we were expecting after seeing all the great reviews.

Good Thai food at a decent price. This is our go-to Thai spot when we don’t want to eat lunch at the office. The fried wontons are great, and chicken pad Thai is always yummy. The space itself is modern and sleek. The staff has always been polite and courteous. If you’re in the area, it’s well worth Checking out!

Authentic & Delicious! Portland boasts many very good Thai restaurants, but Maiphai is currently my favorite. The food is always so fresh and fragrant, the service is attentive and excellent overall, tables and bathrooms etc are always very clean, and the atmosphere is comfortable for a party with friends or a lunch out with the office team. Prices are pretty standard and normally there’s little to no wait to be seated, although finding parking nearby can be a challenge. :) Try the Tom Ka Gai(coconut curry soup with chicken)!

I have no clue why this place was empty when I walked in. The prices are reasonable. The portion sizes are great and fill you up. The service was extremely friendly and professional. I got a seafood medley plate and it was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I really hope this place gets more popular. They deserve more attention and activity.

Amazing drunken noodle and salad rolls! Beautiful décor too! Definitely return(and much nicer service than thai esan) Update: just went back for happy hour. Had the pad see ew and pad thai. Both were so amazing. If I could only eat at one thai place for the rest of my life, it would definitely be here at BambooThai.
