Mel’s Frame Shop

This place is great. I’ve had two large maps framed here, and couldn’t be happier with they way they turned out. The people who work here are friendly and clearly knowledgable about their work. Definitely the place to go for framing in downtown Portland.

To explain how happy I am with Mel’s is to explain a little about the piece they framed.
My piece is a mixed media art. I knew that I wanted the back to be able to be shown as it is a negative of the texture on the front. So I had only one condition when it was going to be framed, that I wanted to be able to view the back when wanted.
I thought I had a good idea of the style of frame but Mel and her team gave some great suggestions (one of which we ended up going for). They also suggested some great mats that ended up being perfect as well.
Finished on time I went to pick it up. She showed me the piece and I was shocked on how well they did. Then she flipped it over… I didn’t realize she had just showed me the back. Because of the style of the piece the back and front are negatives and easily mirrored, the amazing job they did made the back look as professional as the front. It shouldn’t have to be said the front turned out perfectly as well.
I have no reservations to sending everyone to Mel’s. They are all artists so they are very helpful giving insights to what looks good. They are professional up to the extra steps they took to make every aspect of their work amazing.

Mel is one of the nicest people I’ve me here in Portland! She frames and sells great local art including her own work. I had some difficult projects, but Mel is a pro, and she seemed to know just what I wanted. She did two pieces the first time (on time!), and I just brought her another! I’ll be back again for sure!
Mel always seems to have some kind of discount special going so ask about it when you go in!

I finally registered at Unilocal so that I could give Mel’s five stars. I would give her more if I could.
My brothers and I framed a picture of our mother for her memorial. The three of us visited the store together, and Mel could not have been more kind. She listened closely to our preferences, gently provided excellent insight, and delivered a truly beautiful product. She also went above and beyond in dealing with another difficult business on our behalf.
Three years later, I know that my mother would have been so pleased with how her portrait looks in that frame and so very grateful for the kindness her sons were shown. I certainly am.

Recently got a couple items framed here. Mel and her staff are amazing and spend the time to help me get just the right frame picked out. I also appreciated that they shared their knowledge of the framing art. Very glad I went here and will come back again.

I finally stopped by on my way home from work and I’m glad I did! The artwork is exceptional and I left with a very reasonably priced print framed. Also go here for ALL your frame needs – so reasonably priced!

This was the first time I got something framed professionally. I couldn’t have imagined a better first experience! I stopped by some other frame shops around town to get some info, and Mel’s was by far the friendliest, well-​priced, and supportive of artists.
Mel and her assistant are great! I wanted to get some drawings framed, and they were extremely helpful in suggesting mattes and frames within budget, and how to arrange the triptychs. It was great to have their opinion since they are artists as well. Very quick turn around time, they finished the framing sooner than expected!
There is some great art showing in the space as well.

Awesome customer service first of all. Second, I had no idea what I was doing and Mel educated me, hooked me up with a great frame for a sweet David Jensen photo. I recommend highly.

I stopped into Mel’s Frame Shop at the end of 2013 looking to have a couple of prints framed. This was my first time venturing into a frame shop with the intent of getting something other than a simple vanilla frame job.
Mel cleared out a spot on her workbench to lay out both prints I had selected and happily provided suggestions on various art mats and frame options. I was almost overwhelmed at the various combinations I had thanks to her recommendations. Not only did she select colors that complimented the pictures but she also inquired as to what type of environment they would be hanging in and adjusted her suggestions to suit.
Roughly a week later I received a phone call letting me know both framed prints were ready and I was more than happy with the finished products now hanging on my walls at home.
I’m fond of the fact that Mel’s Frame Shop is a local business. That along with her time spent at the former Art Media store and knowing she’s also an artist, herself, combined with a positive customer service attitude ensures that my next frame job will be with her business.

This place is great!!! Owner is super nice and accommodating– willing to work with you and your budget. I came in with five paintings and was working with a pretty small amount of money having just returned from a two-​year service with the Peace Corps. Mel was very helpful, knocked some serious bucks off my purchase, and was a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend this place!!! I will be coming back for frames for sure, when money permits.

I get all my framing done with Mel. She has a great eye, and is very easy to work with. You need something framed this is the place to go!

Mel did a fabulous job reframing an old painting I had that desperately needed archival matting and UV glass which I didn’t know it needed. She even got the price down for me by using scrap fabric matting which was beautiful!!! Mel is so easy-​going, has a great eye, and gave my painting a fab new facelift!

I have never framed anything before and Mel was so helpful! She masterfully picked my matte colors and met all my vague request while staying in my budget. If you need something framed, this is the place to go!

We have been having our work framed by Mel for years starting when we first discovered the custom frame shop at the back of Art Media. When Art Media changed hands, Mel opened her own shop.
