I had the BEST time today!!! This is a little bitty fair and parade put on in Multnomah Village. I’m not sure how long it’s been going on annually, but It’s been many many year for sure. About 120 vendors line tents up Captiol Highway in Multnomah Village. Lots and lots of fun. Some really amazing stuff to buy. There was the cutest little parade that lasted about an hour. Capitol highway through Multnomah Village is not very long, which makes this snippet of a fair quite cute. Did I say cute yet? CUTE. So, if you happen to have kids, or you are one yourself, you should really come and check out next year’s Multnomah Days. It’s a beautiful time of year to get out and enjoy this little secret of Portland.

After living near Multnomah Village for eight years, I’m proud to say this was the BEST Multnomah Days yet! We strapped the kidlet into the Baby Bjorn(it was her first time and she fell asleep, thankfully) and hiked up to see the show. It was a HUGE party. It used to only encompass the area between O’Connors and Thinker Toys, but this year, there were vendors lined all the way up to the Lucky Lab! So many people milling about, I could hardly walk, but I’m so thankful for the turnout that will support our local businesses. I’ve actually been in the parade in years past(yeah, I’m THAT cool), but sadly missed it this year. The«Get A Life» band stuck around to play near the bridge, though, so we got to see them turn out a few songs, complete with a pom squad of kick-ass ladies. My man got his hair cut at our salon, Anastasia’s, who donated proceeds to the Neighborhood House, where I volunteer. Awesome! We couldn’t decide what to eat, there were so many incredible smells wafting in our midst, but we finally settled on our usual(a slice from the Lab). Somehow, I avoided Sweets, etc. Probably because I just spent $ 30 on Umpqua ice cream and chocolate there last week. :) Topanion had a killer sale, so I got some nice gifts for friends. I went into Birdie’s to get a few cards and, man, it was packed! Switch Shoes had some great buys outside, too. All in all, a wonderful eating, people-watching, and shopping extravaganza!

I’m almost afraid to let the secret out: Multnomah Village throws a good street fair. Sure, it’s not of the scale of the Alberta Street Fair, but who cares? It’s more walkable, Capitol Highway’s closed and there’s a parade, as well. Plus free ice cream! From the police. You see, sometimes the cops can be nice people. Anyways, any street fair within walking distance of John’s Market is a good one to go to. Yeah.

There was a parade! There was a dog wash! There were vendors from around the neighborhood and from elsewhere handing out samples and selling beautiful wares! All the shops were having sales! There was even an appearance from the mobile Voodoo Doughnut truck! I had a heck of a time at Multnomah Days, and I think it really showed the best of my neighborhood to my boyfriend and his visiting Uncle. If you missed it this year, you really missed out. Just because Multnomah Village is south of the 405, doesn’t make it any less of a great Portland neighborhood. There is ample parking at the Multnomah Center and Loaves and Fishes, as well as bus access. It’s only from 31st to Garden Home along Capitol Hwy, a very short and sweet stroll. I had tons of fun and enjoyed milling around with my neighbors, I look forward to next year!
