We’ve been in here for over an hour, put in our food order over 30 mins ago. Horrible service. The woman with the short dirty blondish brown hair and glasses is very rude. Tried to order something off of the kids menu because I don’t eat large portions, she responded with«You’re not a kid!» very rudely. Will never come here again. Find a new waitress. Server’s name was«Liz»

Absolutely love this place! All the bartenders rock! It is a must go to for a neighborhood bar. Good food and great service. I’ve been in the industry for a while and have high expectations which this bar more then fulfills. Highly recommended.

Went here with a friend. Really chill atmosphere. I ordered the wrong drink on accident and asked waiter if there was anything he could do and he said he would just charge half. Ends up not even putting it on the tab. The new drink was good, cuz it was sweeter. I had ordered a plain martini on accident which I can’t stand. Food was amazing. I had a burger with an egg on it and fries and the fancy drink and I think my friend ordered a yummy hot dog. We had a private talk, catching up and despite the atmosphere being loud, me and my friend still had a blast catching up and the noise wasn’t an issue. Waiter was kinda rough but nice enough… very very attractive 30 something dark haired dude with tats. He got a fat tip and this review should be of good use to people. Very fair place.

Excellent food and fun cocktails. Definitely not my favorite restaurant on Hawthorne, but it’s always worth checking out. They don’t have a big menu, but what they do serve, they serve right.

Good place. Bar for maybe 15 people and tables/booths for maybe 40 more. Couple of pinball machines in the back. Likker, beer and sandwiches, accent grave’ on the dogs of course. One of the best soundtracks/playlist I’ve had the pleasure to listen to for a while. The server lady — Carrie I think — was really nice. Happy hour pricing works out well. Nothing not to like in my book.

I have been here twice now, and both times left thinking I never want to come back. So much for second chances. After a night of walking all down Hawthorne in search of an Irish Car Bomb, my partner and I decided Coney Island’s would be a great spot to try. Got the Irish Car Bomb we had been searching for along with a lot of attitude from the bartender. She was incredibly rude and acted like she didn’t want us there at all. We paid for the drinks, and then she coldly asked«are you going to leave me a tip?» My partner politely explained to the bartender that a tip is called gratuity because it something you do when you want to show gratitude. The experience and service given to him was definitely not something he wanted show my gratitude for especially monetarily. Well the bartender didn’t like that and he was told to leave. After telling the bartender he had no plans of staying after I finished my drink but he wouldn’t leave a moment sooner, a gentleman from behind the bar comes and attempts to assert his authority. Once again, he affirms his position and wait for me to finish my drink. I then have to chug the whole drink, ruining my experience. We leave peacefully and without an physical altercation. Seeing how this was our second time in this establish and neither time being pleasant, highly doubt we’ll go back. If your are searching for a truly classless dive bar, this might be your spot.

Food is good. Not great or amazing but just good. Servings are big, for at least 2 people. Drink specials are awesome! Super cheap and good selection. Good place to come when you’re buzzing. Good, greasy, heart attack food. ;)

I don’t know how someone couldn’t love this place. Amazing food, great atmosphere. Get the Seattle dog, it’s the best!

The service was good and that’s about it. The banana pudding was recommended but turned out to be a very dry and huge disappointment.

I cannot speak to their food, but they have a great beer selection, the bartender was fantastic, and the pomegrita’s were off the hook!

They have a killer happy hour. We ordered two chili dogs, a salad and chili cheese fries for $ 13.25 Plenty for two people. The chili was insanely delicious. I will definitely be back!

Regulars — have the T-shirts, drinking glasses, and have dropped quite a lot of $$$ at Nick’s over the years. Once again the issue of radical swings in quality has raised its ugly head at Nick’s Coney Island, only this time it’s with the staff. Yesterday(Wednesday, June 23rd) A friend and I stopped in after the lunch hour, and had a cold beer and nice service at the counter from a blonde server — forget her name. Very attentive and nice person. Then, possibly the worst waiter I have ever experienced took over. Mark, I believe his name is. Dark hair with a mop of it hanging over his face. The guy immediately established that he seemed disinterested in working. He was there, his«I’m better than you» attitude screamed, to schmooze with pals at the end of the counter and nothing else. After repeatedly making eye contact and motioning that we were ready to order food, he simply ignored us, or walked past as if wearing blinders. Message received: This was his private conversation time, and pesky customers were absolutely NOT welcome to interfere with it. We bailed without ordering, much to his pleasure, I’d bet. This was not a busy time — there were only a few customers. This seemed to be quite deliberate, passive aggressive behavior designed to get rid of distractions to his enthusiastic dialogue with his buddies.

I need to bump this up one. I had been exclusively eating Otto’s dogs for many a year. I think it got to the point where if it wasn’t Otto’s, I wasn’t liking it. Time has passed(as it do) and I have had other dogs(as I do) in other places. My previous hesitance was based on the dog itself. After trying it again, I seem to be liking this more than I did previous. My apologies to Nick’s. Come in and have a coney, y’all.

Best bar on Hawthorne! Clientele is fantastic and diverse; bartenders are always accommodating and fun; cooks work their a@!&$ off, and the best home away from New York bar in the west! Kudos to you Nick’s!!!

So the atmosphere was cool the service was cool but the Coney Island needs work. Too much sugar in the meat sauce and the mac salad was also too sweet.

I have been coming to this bar for the last 5 years and EVERY time I visit and the bartender Cassie is working, she is rude. I have given this girl so many chances to improve her attitude. Having worked in the service industry for half of my life I tip well and exhibit patience at all times. Cassie is downright entitled and it makes me so mad that it has come to airing out this grievance on Unilocal.Hopefully the business owners will read this and know that she is driving the business of a loyal customer away.

First time? It was great! The cook hashed out his famous burger, the waiter who was a guy was very attentive and had great jokes, and the overall atmosphere was wonderful. My boyfriend and I ate our food while enjoying Candyman on their big tv. It was a blast and I swore to myself that I’d go back again. Second time around I was only in there for 30 seconds and decided never to come back because of the rude lady bartender they have. My boyfriend and I returned for another great burger, just to have her SHOUT at us in the rudest tone ever, «Um, excuse me but the kitchen is closed. I need to see your ID’s or you can get out.» We had no intentions of having a drink, especially with such a snobby bartender, so we left.

Beer and bourbon special? Good price. Bartender Mark that ignores empty glasses and passes by an attentive customer at the bar while it’s slow? I can chalk that up to poor service.(and hipster insouciance, brought on by the hair he was trying to hide behind.). Overcharging on a second beer, then failing to apologize when I called him on it? That’s just dishonest.

Nothing like a good, solid hot dog late on a Saturday night. After a night that included the Rose City Rollers and a quick beer at the Bagdad Café, a buddy and I ended up here. We were hungry and wanted some grub. I’ve passed Nick’s on several occasions, heck when you’re down on Hawthorne, how do you not? The place has been here for decades. History and sports items all over the walls. Old Nintendo games being played on Saturday night. A basketball game on the TV and some rock and roll over the speakers. It was a small crowd for that evening. As for the food? A Fiesta dog was had by me and nachos by my buddy. You get a nice sized dog with all the fixings and I was pretty well satisfied after that. Sour cream, jalapenos, salsa and shredded cheese all overloaded on top of a huge hot dog. It hit the spot. It went well with the PBR I ordered. Good service, nostalgic place. Thankfully I moved closer to the area. I can return quicker.

This is my second time at Nicks. The first experience was a blast because the male bartender made me a delicious Mud Slide. Tonight the bartender was a lady, and I don’t think she knew how to make Mud Slide at all. No ice and very strong coffee liqueur. She couldn’t make the Hemingway too because she said that the mint is seasonal. However, she’s very friendly though, but we didn’t get the drinks we hope and dream for. You should still try them though. Don’t listen to me, I’m whiny.

We stumbled upon this place while starving and walking along Hawthorne. It was happy hour and looked like a cool bar to hang out in for a while. I should have just left when it took us 10 minutes to get any attention in a bar with less than 10 people in it. Like I said, I was starving so the entire menu looked great which meant I wasn’t ready to order when the waitress first appeared took our drink order, but I was when she came back with the beer… Too bad she dropped them and dashed. Another 10 minutes and we finally got to order. The food was ok and nothing I’d ever need to come back and have again. The food overall was«meh» and the service was bad; I don’t see any reason to go back

Nicks Coney Island is a pig pen with beer served. Lack of wait staff starts the cluster fuck, so there a little slow on clearing tables so you can sit down without looking at someone else’s mess of half eaten food plates. NICE! As for the rest of the place it’s a typical bar however the surrounding area’s charm makes up for NICKTHEPIG! Grab a pint and support local business’s!
