After spending 3 amazing weeks in Italy, I came home to Portland in major need of finding an authentic European Deli/Meat shop. Pasta works is home away from home. To be honest, any time I drove pass or just writhing a few blocks of SE Hawthorne, I just can’t help but stop at this place. They have one of the best selection of salami and prosciutto in town! This place just reminds me of Italy all over again. Besides their meal selection, they have a huge variety of cheese, wine, chocolates, dried fruits, nuts, freshly made cookies, bread, hand made pasta and sauces made from scratch. This is one of those place that the moment you literally walk in, you feel like you just stepped in Italy, and when you hover on the right side, it suddenly feels like Germany. Again, I’m usually here for my Salami, but I always find myself at lost here.

I LOVE Pastaworks! Just an amazing old-style market, like the small-town mom-and-pop supermarkets of yore, but with a heavy cosmopolitan bent. I could wax poetic on you here, but the reality is that you just need to stop reading and start heading down the old Pastaworks way. Absolutely recommended!

What a gem! I love the freshly made pasta. They have a great assortment of gourmet foods and a beautiful deli selection. The staff are great too. It feels friendly like a small town, but with the specialty items you can only get in a city.

I took a star away because they no longer sell casata cake. I used to come in here for that alone. Checking the pics would be wise and more efficient than me writing 3 paragraphs of blah-blah about their wares. Generally, no trip to Hawthorne is complete without me popping into here. Casata cake aside, I usually have only a vague idea of what I seek when I come here. Even when I have no intentions of buying something, I end up buying something. This is one of those places where I can cruise around and dinner just kind of presents itself to me, from appetizer to dessert. If there’s a better place to find pastas, do tell. My sons really like their sausages. I’m a big fan of their sauces. I’m not much of a cheese maven but they have a large selection of that too. Parts of this store are kind of wasted on me; my idea of a wine/cheese pairing is Velveeta cubes and Night Train. If you haven’t been or are scratching your head over what to have for dinner, pop in.

I can tell you without a doubt, I have never been to a place like this. i have been making my own pasta as a treat for a little bit, i love the flavor, l but so much work. I was amazed at the quality of the fresh pasta, and even more surprised about the value. although i didn’t try any of it. the food in the deli window looked legit. the only positive criticism about the place is when you walk in there does not seem to be a obvious flow to the store. If that is my only complaint then that means they are doing just fine.

I’ll be here tomorrow for lunch :-) We tried the hummus then had the lamb curry from the deli. I’ll open my Lebanese cook book and learn how to make this. It was so delicious

Sometimes, you just can’t find that basket of figs or creamy French cheese at Fred Meyer just a few feet away. This is the place to score some of the best imported chocolate, preserves, balsamics, vinegars, salts, and yes… cheese! When in season, I must go for the organic black mission figs. Sometimes, you have to treat yourself to the best and often, that means«buying global». The local chocaltiers and selmiers make their appearance, but the featured items come from France, Italy, and Spain. The people here are, of course, knowledgable, but so are the clientele. In that they are both respectful and ready to help. This place serves as the perfect compliment to the more affordable groceries next door. Also: if there’s something extra special you need, it can’t hurt to call ahead to see if it’s in stock.

This is an amazing European style market and grocer. All of the food is fresh but pretty pricey. I think it is worth it to have some fresh bread, meats, and pasta though! EVOE inside is a great place to have a bite to eat as well!

I’ve been coming here since it’s very beginning and I’m a loyal customer. I buy all of my fresh pasta here, along with amazing meats and cheeses. They also have wonderful fresh breads and produce! The people who work there are knowledgeable and will take the time to talk to you and answer questions. Excellent wine selection!

Went in yesterday with my Mom and friend we had walked by it many times not realising how amazing a place it is, fresh pastas, cheeses from around the world, spices, wines, breads and so much. We ate at the Café next door and the Danske was amazing and the wine smooth and great in body. A great place to shop for your Italian meals. Love it, will be back.

What a pleasant experience! A friend mentioned it last summer but we just got around to stopping. Part of it is a cute little grocery store with a nice wine, cheese, and specialty food selection. Lots of little and fun things to pick up and wonder how to use. We walked around the corner and found an adorable little restaurant in the store. A huge chalkboard lists that specials: salads, sandwiches, little pasta dishes, etc… I had a glass of Prosecco and a fresh salad with smoked salmon. My husband and I sat, hung out, and read. It was a perfect Saturday afternoon.

Yes this place is fantastic and have a wonderful selection of foodie foods and deliciousness. This is a great place to go to buy a gift for someone or find something really special to bring to a party. You can find similar items for less at other stores, but it’s convenient to have it all in one location. Fancy coffee? Yes. Imported cheese? Yes. Belgian chocolate? Yes. French wine? Yes. It’s more than food, too. They have a whole card section full of, yes, cards, and other fun little books and utensils and cute things. Like I said, great place for unique gifts. Their meats, breads and cheeses are fabulous. Whenever we make fondu, this is where my husband gets the bread. You can also buy cheese by the wheel here i’m pretty sure! We can’t walk out of here without spending $ 100. Oh well, it is money well spent!

I cant count how many times I have been told: Looking for a good Vermouth? Go to Pastaworks A great bottle of Prosecco? go to Pastaworks Charcuterie? Yep… Pastaworks I think the name alone and the fact that parking on Hawthorne when I was around was impossible prevented me from visiting. My apologies… my visit was in the cards when I first found parking immediately outside the front door. Great fresh organic veggies and fruit… amazing selection of fresh bread and cheese. and super friendly staff… Complete with a baby being pushed amidst delivering goods to shelves… hey I appreciate multi tasking and the baby seemed totally comfortable !:) If you are entertaining or putting together a cozy night at home. This is the place to stock up…

I only visited once, and I didn’t have time to give detailed attention to the whole store, but what I saw was amazing. I expect after additional visits I’ll upgrade this to five stars. While here, we purchased some fine cheeses, chocolates, and candied chestnuts(a weakness of my companion). We enjoyed the displays of produce and other foods, and wish we could afford to spend more there. The staff were very courteous, helpful and friendly. We felt welcome and attended to.

Wow, can I just leave it at that? I’d like to but even with all the reviews that this place has, I feel I need to leave my two cents. This place reminds me of Dean & Deluca in New York City. It’s an upscale small grocery store. Amazing selection of meats, cheeses, fresh produce, pastas(fresh and boxed), wines, beers, olives and all sorts of assorted crackers and such that one would have if you were entertaining guests of a higher caliber. Don’t get me wrong, anyone could go to Pastaworks, but I’m thinking that the average wallyworld customer is not shopping here. Shoot, in my current situation, I can’t shop here, but I’d love to. I really enjoy wandering cool food stores, ethnic or not and finding new foods or spices to try. Maybe it’s why I have over 60 types of spices and spice rubs. I get carried away. Hey, you gotta live a little. If and when I find myself with the cash to spend here, fresh pasta and maybe some sausages will be first on my hit list here. Enjoy.

Very large dry pasta and olive oil place to purchase. It is a guilty pleasure carb nightmare worth checking out. Very friendly staff, very good prices and even if you’re not Italian… you will feel it here. Very good quality deli meats.

Do you want the highest quality, fresh, locally-sourced/made products and top-notch customer service regardless of the cost? Then this is the market for you! They have a nice variety of premium local meats(aged steaks, ground sausage, sausage links, chicken, etc), fresh pasta, seafood, imported cheeses, wine, and other food staples(spices, salts, oils, etc) at prices on par with Whole Foods or Zupans, though admittedly they’re a much smaller store so slightly smaller section. Definitely worth checking out at least once if you want to cook up an amazing dinner for family or friends!
