Lowry is amazing. As someone who has had ballyage color applied for years– in many salons and cities – I can say Lowry is unusually talented and professional. The Nightbird salon itself is beautiful and relaxing, making it a great experience all around. They also sell top-​notch products which are unavailable in many places – the lotion and dry shampoo she recommended are already my new favorites!

I have not been to Nightbird Salon yet however I am a devout fan of Marci Castillo and will follow her anywhere from wherever in the world I may be. And that includes a lot of places! I have flown back from Afghanistan with Marci being my first stop to make me feel pretty again and wash the dust out of my hair. I’ve also specifically rerouted my return ticket to South Korea just to have her fix my hair from a poor decision I made in desperation. I’ve considered flying to see her all the way from Seoul or trying to convince her to come here and do some sort of business/​research trip just so I can get an appointment. All of this effort is because my hair is incredibly fickle, finicky, difficult… rarely have I found someone who understands it. Marci is nothing short of a magician, artist, chemist, and beauty queen. I am a creature of habit, I like my hair to look simple, natural, beautiful, «Victoria Secret» highlights and of course none of those things are actually simple nor natural to attain without her skills. My hair runs very warm, prior experiences with other colorists left me with hair that may have looked ok at first but quickly turned brassy or orange or the roots were different colors. Marci notices that, corrects it, tones it until it’s the perfect shade of blonde, neutral, and ash. She has been doing an ombré, bayalage since before it was cool and it looks flawless and grows out impeccably. I have been given compliments on my hair throughout the world and couldn’t recommend her enough. Her cuts are beautiful as well. My hair is light/​medium warm brown base, blonde delicate highlights and about mid-​back length for reference.

I’ve been going to Marci for many years now and I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my hair! She is the only person that knows how to cut and color my thick dark hair. She doesn’t push any products on you, but if you ask her she will recommend some great personalized products for whatever your hair type and budget is. I can’t rave enough about her — she is truly a gem.

Alexis is a hair genius! I went through a few different salons when I moved to Portland, and then I got the best haircut from Alexis. And then, because I can never have the same cut twice, I got the next best cut a couple months later! I’ve had Alexis cut my hair for the last couple of years, and now half of my friends go to her! I’ve even converted my girlfriend to get her cut and color done with alexis and she is always happy!

This shop is the coolest — dare I say I’m hesitant to review? My stylist Marci moved over here a couple of months ago and I really dig the calm. It’s an intimate spot in an incredibly comfortable environment. I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with some cool people while getting my hair done. Marci does amazing, amazing work and I am so lucky to have scored such a great professional. Highly recommend.

Lowry is an amazing stylist! The salon is beautiful and I consistently see great cuts happening every time I visit. The whole staff is super friendly. I highly recommend Nightbird.

Lowry has been my stylist for YEARS… one of the only to have ever figured out how to handle my curly/​wavy/​limp hair. She’s the only one I’ve ever trusted to give me bangs or to cut my hair super short, and she’s always left me feeling like I can replicate whatever she’s done once I’m home. While I now live a few states away, I’m not getting my hair cut again until I’m back in Portland!!!

I recently had my hair done again by Alexis! She is amazing! She really takes the time to listen to what you want. Her hair cuts are perfection and my blonde highlights have never looked better. I have been told, by other stylists, that I have hair that is difficult to make blonde, but Alexis gets it right every time! She is my ‘blonde whisperer’. I am so happy I have finally found a stylist in Portland that does blonde right!

Umbre-​licious! Lowry has done 3 different balayage colors on me over 2 years, and complete strangers approach me on the street for a closer look and a compliment — which is how I met my boyfriend! Her reds are divine and they last.

Lowry is an artist; she is an amazing hair stylist and product curator, not to mention such a sweet, genuine, fun person! I was introduced to her by my mom who had raved about Lowry’s talent… with good reason! My hair has never looked better. Lowry also provides fabulous product recommendations, based on her own thorough research. Even though I live in the Bay Area, Lowry is my hair stylist and I see her whenever I’m in Portland. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Lowry was my stylist for years before she moved to Portland. She is extremely versatile with both cuts & color, excelling in a variety of styles ranging from classic to edgy. I even trusted her to style my hair on my wedding day and it turned out great! My only complaint is that she doesn’t live here anymore…

Lowry pays attention, the key to a great hair stylist. She takes her time, and besides having experience and knowledge about hair, she has intuition. She just knows what she’s doing. Nightbird is a super cute salon, and Lowry introduced me to a salt spray that she carries that I LOVE. I highly recommend her.

I would recommend Lowry to everyone. I’ve been going to her over the last 2 years and have always gotten such amazing cuts and color. I did color for the first time with Lowry and she assured me it would look natural, much to my hesitation. She was right and now I’ve had a balayage style done 3 times! She’s easy to talk to and really listens to what I want. I was so excited for her to open her own place that I waited an extra 2 months for a cut so I could go to her.
The new salon is bright and clean and well curated. Lowry took the time to source amazing small batch vendors and it makes a big difference to me to buy from small businesses.

As a former hair stylist, I am insanley picky about who I let cut my tresses. I have had one too many stylists that I was friends will, chop my hair when I specifically always ask for no length to be taken, just long layers.
Lowry not only honors your request, but tells you about very ingesting natural things to care for your hair.
I love her and miss her terribly.

I started seeing Lowry last year when she was at a different salon and have followed her to Nightbird, her own absolutely stunning salon! She is a total hair goddess, taking my coarse, thick Asian hair and turning it into pure gorgeousness. I am extremely picky about stylists, but it was my lucky day when I randomly got sat in her chair to have an icky ombré job fixed. She’s incredibly intuitive, knowing what I will like when I’m not being clear about it. When I was wondering if I should try an edgier look, my husband said, «You’ve never been unhappy when you come home from seeing her, so go for it! You know she’s going make it look awesome.» And he was so right! Classic or edgy, Lowry keeps my hair looking its best, all while providing some spectacular conversation — no awkwardness or lame small talk here!
And the salon? It’s super chic and cozy, bathed in the most luscious blush and gold tones. Her selection of products and accessories is fantastic, all coming from smaller, high quality brands from all over the world.
Prices are competitive, and Lowry always takes her time. Honestly, she’s the best thing that has ever happened to my hair!
