Very friendly staff, good food and a nice place to hang out to get work done or just have lunch. Jack makes especially great lattes and they’re kind of giant so order a size smaller than you might normally.

An owner who really makes healthy and delicious food– from scratch. I asked to have a «greener» smoothie than the ones on the menu(which were mostly fruit) and he made a wonderful spinach/kale/beet concoction — amazing! Super nice service and healthy. Will definitely make this a stop when in Portland next!

This place is delicious and healthy! They use fresh, real ingredients and their service is above and beyond. The owner cares about his patrons and wants them to eat as he would. The elixir toddy was a spicy kick and the soups were both delicious! Coming here again!

Stopped in before heading to a Cubing competition and even though it was a little bit of a wait for our food, it was well worth it! Had the«wham bam thank you ham» ITWASAMAZING! Guy working was very nice and apologized for the wait. Will def go back!!!

For the Portland coffee shop scene, this place rates barely average. The décor is quite dated. Many of the cushioned seats are worn and in need of replacement. Remember when dumpy-looking coffee houses were cool(like 20 years ago)? They do serve Stumptown, but otherwise, nothing special. They sell Bowery bagels for $ 2.50 a pop!

This place is just«meh». My friend and I checked this place out yesterday because we were craving something cold and refreshing. Two stars because we got what we wanted, one star for customer service. They were both new, so that was their excuse but they lacked good customer service skills. We didn’t really feel welcome, the guy that helped me didn’t give me my nickel back. And I laughed and said«I guess you can just put the nickel you owe me in your tip jar.» And he said«oh right!». Then we just got our drinks and sat in a cushy chair(which was the best part) and drank our drinks then noticed they were closing up and left. Like i said. Just. Meh! The drink itself was mediocre. I make better smoothies at home. I did wish they hadn’t run out of the peachy keen. That’s what I wanted. I’m sure If they weren’t new, the experience would of been better.

sweet people, comfortable and aesthetic environment, delicious food and drinks reasonably priced. i really like and appreciate the laid-back atmosphere, the way they get things right for you or redo them, the wonderful sometimes funky art on the wall, the no-pressure-hang-out-and-enjoy-yourself ambience. and across the street from a bookstore, which is heaven for me. i recommend nirvana for its mellowness and tasty, varied menu. try the nirvana smoothie — it really tastes like — well, nirvana!

The folks here are really nice, but i can’t get over the prices. $ 2+ for a glass of okay iced tea, $ 3+ for a slice of muffiny bread, almost $ 6 for a smoothie or juice, etc. From what I’ve had, it’s okay but just not worth it.

Dislikes: I was double-charged for my coffee, waited forever for my sandwich(which was NOT good), meat was ‘fake’ and bacon was undercooked. Likes: The café atmosphere(and the comfy chairs), coffee was good and the waitress was friendly. Okay experience. But I doubt I will return.

Wow. So wish I’d tried this place sooner! I pass it almost every day, but have never stopped in. The two staff working today — I think one is the owner — are awesome. Very accommodating for special requests; I like spicy chai and they got creative and gave me one of the tastiest almond milk spicy chais I’ve had. And yummy, healthy juices and smoothies, too. Great vibe with couches, overstuffed chairs, tables and chairs, etc. We came here to write for NaNoWriMo and it was perfect. And… the amazing mother foucault’s bookshop is right across the street! Yep — it’s a gem.

I brought my friend here for her birthday lunch per her request. I had a chicken curry soup, and it was delicious. The service was friendly and speedy. The place was clean, and the atmosphere was inviting. They have free wifi, and the setting allows for conversation. Our food was very inexpensive; we both had a jumbo bowl and a 16 oz juice and the total qas roughly $ 20. I will be coming back!

This place is the tits. You wouldn’t think it’d be that hard to combine the ingredients for a perfect coffeeshop, right? –nice baristas –same price for all sizes –cute local art for sale –an oversized, cushy chair you can sink into –indie pop/rock that isn’t unlistenably hip And yet I was shocked when Nirvana hit ‘em all outta the park. This is the place if you’re not wild about Coava’s stark minimalism and hipper-than-thou coffee snob clientele. Plus free wifi. Nirvana indeed.

Ohmaigaaaaaa! You guys saved my life! I was in desperate need for a wheatgrass shot after a long night of partying and It wasn’t too far from where we were staying at. The shop is small but cozy and shares the restrooms with the barber shop next door. I had the mango tango smoothie and it was the bombizzle!

Great lunch spot! The Nirvana smoothies is so yummy and I’ve had the juices there too. All delicious and fresh. They really care about quality of food here. Plus it’s a cute place with local art on the walls that makes me happy. The employees are really nice too and the wait is never long to order.

I work in the building so tend to take Nirvana for granted. Every time I go back the menu has expanded the service is tremendously friendly and the food & drink are top notch. Highly recommended!

I walked into this café on a whim and was impressed by what I saw. It’s a cozy little place with an eclectic mixture of chairs, couches and tables, as well as a «bar» to sit at by the brew stations. There were a few people that were studying(like I was) so the place was pretty quiet and I was pleased to note that the music isn’t too loud on its own. In fact, it’s quite relaxing. I ordered a small Chai latte with soy milk and I thought it was alright. I prefer my Chai a bit stronger than they made it but the alternative milk option was nice.(I’m a lactard, as my friend likes to put it). I also ordered an oatmeal«for here» and was presented with a delicious cinnamon/apple/almond/cranberry oatmeal in a ceramic bowl with a plate and napkins. It was delicious and adorable! I stayed here a lot longer than I expected, mainly for the atmosphere and peacefulness I felt(despite being located on the busy SE Morrison st. If you’re ever in this area and want a great cup or coffee or a chill place to hang out, definitely stop by here!

Sometimes I just can’t explain life… Like…why does Bunk Sandwiches down the street get rave reviews and exposure on just about every food show on TV, when there is a place like Nirvana Café just down the street that, in my opinion, far outshines Bunk? I’ve been to Nirvana Café a couple of times now, killing time while my daughter had appointments upstairs in the historic Weatherly Building.(Tall, skinny grey building on Morrison near Grant.) This place is fabulous in all ways. Comfortable seating: Mixture of couches, chairs, and bar. Gracious owner. Excellent food! I’ve had their Awsh Soup, which is a homemade Persian lentil soup that has helpful digestive properties. I thought this was delicious and am buying some today to take home for lunch. I’ve also had their $ 4 breakfast sandwich which is egg, cheddar and your choice of ham/bacon/vegan sausage. Perfectly good. Their vanilla latte put Starbucks to shame. It was less sweet but just nicely flavored, which is my preference. I clearly need to try the Nirvana Smoothie. If you are in the SE part of Portland, this is a great bet.

I LOVENIRVANA! Their sandwiches, smoothies, and coffee is amazing! I haven’t been disappointed with anything I’ve had here. I also love the vibe here! It’s so calming and the music is amazing! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Best café in Portland by far.

I didn’t try the smoothies that everyone here is excited about. I had a pretty decent soy chai latte, though. Not spectacular, but serviceable. The lentil and vegetable salad that I had for lunch was sort of blah. Healthy, yes, but it could have used some garlic or onion to give it some punch. The service was wonderful, so definite points there. The interior was clean but unexciting. I might come back and try that smoothie…
