Ohana Dessert and Shave Ice

My family is in town and my cousin promised her daughter a shave ice since they had missed being able to get one in Spokane the night before on their road trip to Portland. I was skeptical that I could deliver on this promise, but I googled «Portland Shave Ice» and came up with this place. Who would’ve thought there would be a whole store dedicated to shave ice (and some other desserts too) in Portlandia? So off we went with 8 and 9 year old girls. Now I consider myself an ice connoisseur of sorts (I am always munching on ice). This ice was so soft and fluffy, just like my favorite shop on the North Shore of Oahu where tourists line up outside the door to get their «famous» shave ice. Tonight, I opted for the mango and strawberry combination. The syrup was a bit light (the ice underneath was still white) so they added a little bit more for me when I asked. The workers were incredibly patient with my young cousin who got the sour apple and found it too sour. They poured some extra watermelon syrup over hers to try to make it more palatable to her. I want some more of that soft fluffy ice right now! I don’t even think I need the syrup :) On the next warm day, get over to Ohana and get a refreshing treat. Oh beware, this place only takes cash.
