Old Laurelhurst Church

My wife and I were married here in November of last year. The church is beautiful and I would recommend it as a wedding venue to anyone. Our primary concerns were not with the location, but with the communication we had with our wedding coordinator at Old Laurelhurst Church, Debbie. She was a kind and caring person and it was clear that she has a wealth of wedding knowledge. However, since we were planning our wedding from Los Angeles and we would not be arriving in Portland until the day before our wedding, email and phone communication were our only way to coordinate with venues in Oregon. At times, Debbie was difficult to reach and her responses to our questions would often arrive later than the date by which she stated should would respond. As we sought a bilingual pastor, we also wish that Debbie would have communicated sooner her inability to locate such a pastor, as we began to wonder if we should start searching ourselves. In the end, we did need to locate a bilingual pastor on our own. Again, Debbie was kind to us throughout the vast majority of our interactions with her. However, during our rehearsal, when the pastor we had located assumed the role of coordinating the rehearsal, instead of Debbie speaking with the pastor about the requirement that she coordinate the rehearsal, she instead frantically informed us that we would lose our deposit if she was not in control of the rehearsal. We then were left with the job of communicating this requirement to the pastor. If we had to go back and choose a wedding venue all over, we would still select Old Laurelhurst Church. We would simply lay our our expectations for communication more clearly with Debbie at the start of the process.

We do not have a marriage experience here but we were able to take a tour of the place. Wow!!! First location… its a few blocks from one of the best parks in Portland… Laurelhurst Park. So lots of areas for wedding pictures or post event fun. The Church is on the top of a hill and is a mission style1923 building surrounded by garden areas. The inside is huge with lots of beautiful stained glass. There was a huge brides room and large grooms room. Then the basement is all set up for receptions with a stage like area for the wedding party, a good sized dance floor and lots of tables. They have a large kitchen area for cooking or for catered preparation. The church is set up to be non-​denominational. Kinda makes we wish we could get married again.

My husband and I got married here in May of this year. What a wonderful and beautiful venue! People could not stop commenting on how beautiful the church was. The garden space made for great pictures. The simple charm and elegance of this church sold us right away, but after interacting with Debi and her husband (the owners), we knew where we would get married.
Debi was very personable and accommodating to all of our needs as we had a large intercultural wedding. The wedding coordinator Janelle was also amazing! She meet with me twice before the wedding and was was able to answer all of my questions and put any nerves at ease. She was also available via email or phone at any time during the planning process as questions did arise. Our wedding was perfect, I did not have a single worry, everything was taken care of from beginning to end.
I would highly recommend The Old Laurelhurst Church if you are looking to get married in this setting. Simply WONDERFUL!

My wife and I were married here in 2009. The owner and wedding coordinator Debbie was very nice, professional, no nonsense and a huge help. We couldn’t have done it without her. She did so much and took a ton of the responsibility for things off our shoulders. It was nice not having to worry about the little things.
The venue itself is fantastic. Beautiful church with amazing stained glass windows. Downstairs reception area was perfectly filled for our group of 200.
A++ Would get married here again!

I went to the most simple yet elegant wedding here, and I just loved everything about the beautiful building as well as the additional areas for reception. The church itself is just gorgeous, and just around the corner outside into the basement is such an open and airy room with the perfect amount of daylight hitting through the windows that it was a really special place for gathering. I’m not sure how much of the decorating was arranged by the bride separately or if it was part of some kind of package with the church, but their website does say that they rent all of the appropriate items. The daytime wedding I attended was followed by a nice reception with sandwiches and cake and plenty of room for dancing.
