We have been driving by this place off and on over the last 3 years and saw the sign advertising hand dipped corndogs. This last weekend, my wife was in the mood for a corndog and instead of going to our local market we decided to try this out. We had the regular and andouille(spicy) corndogs. We also tried the Zenner German dog. The environment had a nice informal deli feel to it and the staff were extremely friendly. The food was fresh and fantastic. I live about 45 minutes from here and I will definitely make a special trip here in the future when in the mood for this kind of food. Unfortunately, this is not the kind of food recommended by your doctor so I will have to make this a special treat instead of a regular occurrence. But a treat, indeed, it will be.

I must have passed this place and their hand dipped corn dog sign a couple thousand times and not given this place a second thought. But last night I wanted to pick up a powerball ticket for 1.5 billion, and while I was there decide to give their corn dog a try. I was surprised. This definitely isn’t any kind of foster farms 30 count box of frozen mediocrity. This was battered and deep fried to order. Very tasty and huge. Definitely State Fair quality. Also have burgers and chicken strip meals that are very reasonably priced. Looking forward to trying the andouille corn dog. Interior is clean and well maintained and the lottery area is so well isolated you wouldn’t know it was there if you weren’t looking for it. Definitely doesn’t have that lottery hang out feel to it.

The best corndog anywhere! It was a bit of a wait but well worth it. It is hand dipped in their own batter recipe 3 times. Yum!

Yummy! All beef corn dogs nearly the size of an actual wiener dog! The corn dog was tasty, the shoestring fries are perfectly crisp and when combined with their spicy sauce, delicious. The staff is ultra friendly and the restaurant is pristine. It’s so clean that I might consider eating a fry off the floor if I somehow happen to miss my big mouth. Oh, and a Portland rarity… Parking! I’ll be back to check out their other menu items soon.

My wife and I were starving when we stopped here. We had high expectations going in, I mean, how can a corn dog be anything other than delicious, right? The place was pretty much empty, but the staff was polite enough. The dogs we got were very large, but they weren’t crispy at all and the batter itself was just bland. There was nothing particularly offensive about it, but there was certainly nothing good about it. I almost would’ve preferred it if there was even some kind of particularly offensive flavor to it to at least distract from the texture.

Driving past the giant«HANDDIPPEDCORNDOGS. Perfect crunch.» sign everyday really started to work on me so I decided to finally give them a try. At $ 3.99 I was prepared for some yumminess. But overall, I’d just say it was an average corndog. The ¼ lb dog was a good size but I would have liked it much crispier. It could have been because I got it to go and ate it 10 minutes later, but I don’t think that should make the dough a bit chewy(?). I didn’t find anything crunchy about it, not even the corn meal seemed to have that crunchy texture to me… I might give them one more shot and eat it there but that’s a big MAYBE.

Dogs, to me are all about type. If you feel like a big, standard hot dog(or corndog) with a good saurkraut, Joes is fantastic. don’t come in for a thin footlong, or some gourmet-billed dog. The fries are perfect. Golden and thin. Service was soooo friendly. Its a low-staffed place, so if theres a few people in there. you might have to wait a min. Ambiance? well there isn’t any. Its like a Five Brothers without the Peanuts. But you can gamble in the sleazy, well-cordoned off side room.

We Visited this joint awhile back and my daughters had the corn dogs and I had a hotdog. Wife also had a corn dog. The staff here were nice, however the service was slow considering the volume of people in the place at the time. When we did receive our food it looked good. However it didn’t taste good and when my daughter bit into her corn dog a steady stream of stale overused oil ran out of the end. The hotdogs were borderline ok. Bottom line friendly staff shitty food. We won’t be back.

Came in to get my old favorite — the corn dog… Only to find out that they changed the batter. I thought for sure this would ruin one of my favorite foods… But somehow, THENEWBATTERISEVENBETTER! Proof that you can improve perfection. Well done, Joe’s!

I love corn dogs. They are almost an institution in my family. I’ve wanted to try this place for a long time and was very excited to finally knock it off my list. I really wanted to like it. Big dogs? Yes. Maybe not the best quality franks? The batter wasn’t to my liking either. It was chewy, which is weird. It was almost like the dry ingredients — corn meal and flour — were stale. And to me, it tasted like the oil in the fryers needed to be changed 1,500 miles ago. I would choose CDs at 7⁄11 over this place.

Came here with my son for lunch and really enjoyed it. Much better food and better pricing than the other hot dog places I’ve been to. I was also very happy to learn that, at least as far as they said and they did check, the corn dogs don’t use egg as my son is allergic. I’ll definitely be back here.

I won’t say horrible but I won’t say best corn dog like I was expecting. Tastes like Costco hot dogs dipped in a weird tasting batter they were HUGE! I will say I was kind of disappointed in flavor but like I said not horrible. The shoe string fries were yummy, cute atmosphere, friendly service. I would try a burger next time instead.

Truthfully, I would like to give them 2.5 stars. The food was cheap enough and tasty enough, but it’s not stellar. My boys enjoyed their burgers and hot dogs, and let’s face it, they are the reason I went to start with. I liked their fries, and the portions were not bad. Is it place I will eat at again, likely; is it place I will rave about to friends, not likely. They are what I would call an average greasy spoon.

I think I know why people are hating on this place. You have alot of the new age hippy and yuppy type people coming in thinking gourmet, if you want gourmet go to a gourmet restaurant and spend the dough. As for the staff being rude, I’ve had no problem with anyone in there, it all depends on your attitude, if you go in kind of stuck up and being a whatever then you aren’t going to get friendly service. Sure there’s the factthat yes they work somewhere and you just want to order your food STFU and go, but remember they are people too. If someone treats you like a low end ball of dirt you aren’t going to be friendly either. I always walk in, and when I order my food I ask them how their day is, and chat it up a bit, and have always be treated to amazing service with a friendly attitude. Seriously people a smile goes a long way. Original Joes doens’t claim to be a health food spot, they don’t claim to be gourmet, they claim to have downhome style food, which is greasy, messy, and full of flavor, and that’s what you get. As for the dog not tasting normal, that’s the truth, because it’s NOT an everyday dog. SERIOUSLY does anyone even BOTHER to read anymore about something before they bitch about it? It tells you right on the menu why the dog tastes different. It’s a certain type of dog soaked in a certain type of cider. I’m not a big fan(though it’snot bad) of the dog flavor here, but alot of people are. I bought one and I didn’t whine because it didn’t taste like my opinion of a «normal» dog, but then again I read the menu. In a nutshell, 3 – 6 bucks a person, decent sized portions, shoestring fries(that’s why they are so skinny afterall, kind of like a shoestring get it?), it’s county fair style greasy, messy and tasty, if that’s your thing, hit em up, if you want gourmet that’s 50 bucks a pop for an ounce of food on a pretty plate arranged like some near extinct bird, then go somewhere else, and QUITYOURFRIGGINBITCHING that this isn’t the little health food gluten free, hippy, yuppy spot you want it to be. Speaking which this has made me hungry for one of their greasy yummy burgers with their shredded REAL chedder cheese. YUM. I’m going there now.

Don’t know why everyone’s hating on this place. Didn’t blow my mind, but it didn’t suck either… maybe because I didn’t order a corndog? Fed 3 adults and a toddler for 16 bucks. Staff was very nice. Came in expecting burgers and dogs, and that’s what they serve.

Saw the sign for«Hand Dipped Corndogs» and finally decided to give it a try. It was terrible. The hotdog inside did not taste like a «normal» hot dog would taste and it was not good. Fries were not good either. Tried it… don’t need to ever go there again.

Hand dipped corn dogs were terrible. Bought 5 with curly fries for my wife and kids, nobody liked them. I like most anything and I couldn’t eat the entire thing, it sucked. Long haired cook didn’t wear a hairnet. Had a bad experience many years ago and thought I would give it a second chance when I saw their banner for corn dogs. Bad idea.

Meh. Poorly prepared food, almost terrible presentation. Nothing at all like the location in Jantzen Beach which I enjoyed considerably.
