Not impressed with the phone waiting times. It is unprofessional and improper to make anyone wait this long just to make an appointment. Second, not at all impressed with the PA who gave me the orthovisic injections. The first was ok. The second hurt so bad that I couldn’t even get off the table for 5
Minutes. My knee is swollen and I can barely bend my knee 24 hours later. She had absolutely no bedside manner and was always rushed and explained nothing about the procedure and what to expect. Tried to call today to talk to someone about the pain and swelling. The office closed today at 3 for a doctors
Retreat. There’s no way in heck that I’ll see this PA for My last injection next week– if I can ever get through on there awful phone lines.

How I wish there was an option for zero stars ! I had to wait 6 weeks to get this appt… all of it in pain. Dr. DeWilius was recommended by two physicians from Legacy as a ‘hip specialist’.
Something injured in my hip has caused some great pain for now… a year… because no one seems to be able to make a diagnosis and a treatment. (My husband has come with me to these appts. and when HE makes a comment, things are really bad.) I felt like a broken object on a conveyor belt. I suppose this makes them feel that they are efficient… that’s always nice… but gives a negative impression from the get-​go. Three different staff persons came to my room… before I saw the Doctor. Certain tasks and questions from each one… some repetition which was annoying. Instead of a PA as the third person, I felt lucky to have a Orthopedic Surgeon Resident. He seemed to be the only one with a ”pleasant” bedside manner and I hope he isn’t warped by his surroundings. Dr. Dewelius might have spent 3 minutes with me after skimming over what the others had jotted down. I am certain that most of my statements were not even read by the Dr. He took an X-​ray of the hip… just one hip thus no way to compare to the other one for differences. He ‘charged’ into the room with a totally angry look and body language, asked a couple of questions which I had already answered several times already and twisted my leg/​hip around trying to determine ROM and any significant result. (Range Of Motion) My ROM has NEVER been an issue, it is just the PAIN that follows such movement and lingers for days and I told him that. He said my ROM was good… and I wasn’t wincing very much so he says, no problem there. His angry stance never changed… my husband even commented on what had I done to make him so angry !! He then said:
«No fractures and no need for a hip replacement so I can’t help you.» Huh???
It is thus an error to label him as a ”hip specialist” … he does fractures and replacements, and I have heard he does a fairly good job with those… but that is ALL that he can do so he is not a ‘hip specialist’ and should not be recommended as such. Surgeons are not usually known to have the best bed-​side manner, but this one is not even on the chart. AVOID this doc AND the Clinic if you possibly can. Oh: the next day I saw another highly rated and recommended (two physicians from Legacy) Hip Specialist. Talk about night and day !!!
They ran a bit late but the friendly, considerate RN stopped by a couple of times just to let me know what was going on. I heard some occasional laughter… some of it from the Doc’s…
not allowed at OFC I guess… and during the X-​ray I realized my blood sugar had dropped and I was feeling it… the technician kindly and graciously brought me some crackers.
This Doctor was smiling and genuine and he HIMSELF typed in my comments and answers into the computer… By analyzing the views of BOTH hips he pointed out a difference of more arthritic degeneration in the bad hip… not a lot, but a lot more than the other side. No one else was skilled enough to see this, I guess. He then explained one of two scenarios which would explain the pain…1 year and definitely limiting my lifestyle. So I am ecstatic for the upcoming injection the results of which will determine the next step.
I had a previous visit to the Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic… perhaps 10 yrs back. I had had years of a ‘hot’ pain spot on the top of my foot greatly limiting what shoes I could wear. This ‘foot’ specialist, ha, saw no fractures so of course, he didn’t know what to do. He prescribed a boot for three weeks… after a couple years of this, I rolled my eyes and agreed to follow his instructions… well, three weeks became three months with no improvement… I could have told him that… I then saw a highly, highly recommended podiatrist… and after looking at my X-​rays made the diagnosis in about 3 minutes. I see this all the time, he said. It was a bone-​on-​bone issue in my big toe… and the pain was just referred to the top of my foot. He performed a fusion… pain gone, problem solved.
But the ‘foot’ specialist at OFC had no clue.
AGAIN: AVOID this Clinic and Dr. D if you possibly can and read the other reviews as well !!!

Competent doctor, horrible experience in general.
I’ve been here twice in the last two years for two different foot fractures. I find this office extremely unprofessional and frustrating. Not only do I have to answer the same question multiple times to reception, medical assistant and doctor but also fill out the same information online just to have the receptionist LOUDLY ask me personal questions when I get there in front of other patients.
Wait times are long, phone calls are rarely returned. It’s impossible to get a simple question answered. It took me three days to get a prescription sent over. I thought the doctor was fine but almost not worth it for the hassle and attitude.

The only reason that I give two stars is that Dr. Beall is very accommodating for hand issues and all of the other staff is great. Dr. Kurian and Dr. Tennant on the other hand are complete non-​communicators and I’m not sure why either of them have chosen their professions. They both act as if you are wasting their time. If you are looking for good knee or shoulder doctors that you can actually talk to about your condition, please don’t go here.

Worst ‘customer’ service ever. Found out today I have a broken bone in my foot. My doc who ordered the xray referred me to this place and told me to stay in town so the ortho could work me in. (I live about an hour out of town). They looked at the X-​rays online, thankfully I don’t need surgery but it needs to be cast. They told me the appointment would take about an hour. But, they can’t get me in for a week. A WEEK. I asked what I can do to help it in the meantime — stay off of it? Ice it? Elevate? Or, keep walking on it if the pain isn’t too great? Their answer? «We can’t give you any information since you’re a new patient.» (But they’ve seen the X-​rays) They said, «ask the doctor who has seen you.» Of course, by the time they got back to me, my doctors office is closed, and will be closed for the next 4 days. So. I hear docs don’t like it when you google your symptoms to figure out a treatment plan, but really? What do they expect with advice like that. I’ll stick with Google for now and seek out a different ortho clinic — one that actually cares about the patient.

I have had 2 very different experiences here so I and going to write 2 reviews.
Appt 1– Dr Tennant. I have degenerative arthritis in both hips. He walked in, wiggled my knees, said I need both hips replaced (which I already knew), and that, once I lost 25%of my body mass, we could talk about the replacement. When I pushed back that it was easier said than done and asked what could we do in the meantime, he said nothing, well, if I insisted, I could have a cortisone shot every 6 months. He then fled the room. I insisted that his assistant retrieve him because I hadn’t had the opportunity to ask questions. He then stood in the door with a clipboard clasped to his chest for protection for another 30 seconds.
As it turns out, my best friend saw him 10 years ago. He told her that she was bone on bone and absolutely needed a knee replacement. He wouldn’t do it because she was too young and would have to be crippled for another 8 – 18 years before he would consider surgery.

First of all, thank you all who have left negative reviews on O&F Specialists! Due to your input I went for my first visit with an attitude of not expecting much at all. I took a book and was prepared to camp out for the afternoon. Going in with that type of attitude, there was no way I was going to be frustrated or disappointed. As it turned out, however, I was extremely surprised and impressed. Yes, there are multiple desks to check in to for insurance and drug list purposes, and that took about 10 minutes total. Then on to the Lobby area where I sat for maybe a total of 30 seconds before being called to have X-​rays done (I know this because I had just enough time to fish my phone out of my handbag and address a text msg. to my husband). Once X-​rays were completed I used the Ladies Rm before returning to the Lobby. I sat for about another 30 seconds before my name was called again. This time to be directed to the exam room. Once there, and after the nurse getting vitals and instructing me to change into a gown, I finally finished my text to my husband (to which he answered with a phone call). After speaking briefly to him, the doctor’s assistant came in to talk to me about my issue. Just a few minutes later Dr. Butler entered and presented himself as pleasant and efficient. He manipulated my arm (shoulder problem) for a few minutes and reviewed my X-​rays and gave me a diagnosis based on his findings. I was relieved to only need physical therapy and not surgery as I had feared. I was told if I didn’t find relief from my pain after 6 weeks of PT to come back for an MRI. I never had the time to even crack my book open! The entire staff was very friendly and pleasant (I was even complimented on my hair by the check in staff), and the doctor was just the right amount of warmth and efficient for me. I went on a Tuesday at 2:15pm. I walked out of the O&F Specialists’ building at 3:15pm. As others have said, its all about the attitude you go in with that makes the difference in your personal experience.

I have read the other reviews and I am very surprised. It sounds like there are some waiting time concerns but I would like to add my comments.
I fractured the humerus (clean) and the greater tuberosity bones in my shoulder May 24^th in Hawaii. I saw Dr. Brett Andres at Orthopedic and Fracture and he did surgery June 4^th. He was extremely professional, courteous, explained my options, and was understanding of the pain I was in, etc. He took extra time in surgery to make sure everything was aligned perfectly. The follow-​up was just as thorough with re-​checks and xrays during my recovery and physical therapy. I found his assistants to be empathetic and courteous. I had previously had rotator surgery on the same shoulder at Orthopedic & Fracture with a Dr. no longer there but that experience was positive also.
This was the WORST paid I have ever been in, the rotator surgery was nothing compared to this. If it weren’t for Dr. Andres and the excellent Physical Therapy from Jeff Cox at Advanced Sports and Spine I would not be able to tell you that I am fully recovered, have FULL range of motion and am just working on strengthening. That was dedication and determination from myself and them!
It is hard to be patient and wait in an office when you are in pain I know, but please consider you will be getting the best, most excellent care and result to your problem.

Possibly the worst customer service from all and every level of this place. From the receptionist to the CEO Never have I been more disappointed, not only in their customer service, but patient confidentiality, patients time and respect for them, but disappointed in myself for letting these people treat me like all of me doesn’t matter and I’m just a number.
Just plain poor business practices on EVERY level.
Maybe my experience was a one in a million, since that’s how I was treated. I’VE had company’s waste my time, just to charge my insurance and get my copay. As I’m sure many have, I am NOT a one in a million, I deserve better then being treated like 1 in a million.
We waited over 2 hours for my first appt with DR. Tennet to be told… because clearly this is the «best he can do»… is, «I don’t know.» (Which I thought he was a specialist? Crazy, I know… I could have told myself that!!! F#* REALLY!!! what is my insurance paying him for, to tell me the same answer I can tell myself?) Then a follow-​up appt nearly a month later, we sat in the lobby for over an hour, then we were told he was running late, then sat in the room for another 45 waiting for Dr. Tennet, before he came barging in, door wide open, discussing my file as he is standing in the doorway. I was clearly livid by this point, and told him in my calmest absolutly livid voice, … yeah not so nicely… «I am livid!» You would think atleast an apology… but then he tried to walk out and said «I’ll give you time to cool down»
WOAH NOW, really?
so me being my charming self said «ive had 2 hours to cool down, waiting for you.» «Youcan talk to my husband!» Who is equally pissed.
I’m sorry if you make anyone wait for over two hour and then have poor bed side manners and try to discuss my chart with the door wide open, I think I’m entitled to be beyond livid, and YOU as business man should be understanding that your CUSTOMER is very upset, because of your lack of respect for their time, body and just plain mindset due to your actions or lack there of.
I schedule my time in accordance to my family and work, so taking time off work and planning my family’s time and dinner afterwards is hard to do, when your time is wasted sitting… waiting… for 2 hours after your scheduled time for your appointment. Yes my SCHEDULED appointment, that was 3:20pm. I wasn’t seen by my doctor until after 5:20pm. They close at 5, mind you, let alone any office that he tried to contact, since he waited to call to get more information from them until then, since Dr. Tennet did not even review my chart and MRIs prior to then, and then come to MY appointment/​meeting completely unprepared and absolutely not ready, especially since he had a month since the MRI was done and sent over.
All of this being taken into consideration, at some point you would think they did ok service, NOPE. Well my husband had to ask why we were waiting so long in the lobby, so long that every customer that walked in after us was seen before us and walked out before we got called back, then we were told he was running behind, then I had to ask the office manager if I was going to be seen at the 2 hour mark, after my appointment time. Then after his poor patient confidential skills, lack of any bed side manners, people skills and clearly knowledge, since PCL’S are not something he specializes in.
(Wait a minute, doesn’t he specialize in knees? That’s what their Webpage says atleast, and i thought the pcl is included in the knee, but heck I’m not a Specialized Dr.) in his word «I don’t do PCL injuries» again…, I thought I was going to a «Knee Specialist». … Clearly I was wrong and so was my Primary Dr.
The office manager Gretchen, then came in and assured me she was going to «take care of this» and «make it right».
Well she didn’t, nor did the CEO, who «I» was supposed to sit by the phone and wait for his call, LITERALLY, because he was going to call me to discuss the situation and my chart. Well its a week later, still no resolution OR call, not even an attempt at making this matter «right» «taken care of» in any way, no call from the CEO, or office manager. So I once again had to call, only then did I get an apology, what else is she going to do tho, clearly going to the CEO isn’t going to bring this matter to a close, and CLEARLY all of them have a lack of follow thru. I hope Gretchen can find a job where she can be supported by doctors and a CEO, and learns that when you tell someone your going to make it right, that, THAT is exactly what you had better do, because it is YOUR name, Gretchen, that made me believe in your company again, and YOU gave me hope it was going to get «taken care of», and that THIS was NOT a normal business practice. ONLY to be let down even harder by your very own lack of follow thru. #oandf

Unfortunately for my family, we have had quite a bit of contact with this office over the passed year. I was first with a wrist fracture in November 2014. At the time, the office was extremely busy, so wait times were sometimes over 20 minutes. This is understandable seeing how many doctors, patients, and moving parts are in this one office.
In June 2015 my daughter fractured her arm and we came back here. Again, wait times were not horrible, but being as a kid was the patient, they were a little more attentive.
Now, beginning in September, my wife came in with a stress fracture of her foot. I’ve been her driver and moral support for each appointment, and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such shoddy time management in an office. I’m pretty sure it has to do with the doctor you see, but this one takes the cake. Every time we have checked in, they let us know he’s running 30 minutes behind. Which then moves into 45 minutes, and today we are at 1 hour and 25 minutes passed her appointment time, and she still hasn’t seen the doctor.
All the chatter in the waiting room was centered on how far behind everyone is. The staff repeatedly said:“don’t schedule on a Tuesday, they’re the worst!” Well, we’re already here, and that doesn’t make me feel any better about spending my whole morning here.
If you know your Tuesday mornings are going to be hectic, don’t schedule as many appointments! Have a little courtesy for your patients and yourselves. No one could love to hear people complaining about the wait, when there’s absolutely something you can do about it.
Stop trying to shovel so many patients in, take a bit of a breath and remember why you’re in healthcare.

The Orthopedic and Fracture Specialists are simply awesome! It’s hard to get an appointment only because they are so busy!!! I have been coming here for over four years and have seen four doctors and highly recommend the professional doctors and staff, particularly Dr. Duwelius and His excellent PA, Clay and his MAs Bev and Susan. They are very knowledgeable about hip replacements and always answer questions professionally and with much care and concern. A five star clinic!!!

It is a few years later. My shoulder is going to hurt the rest of my life because some !@#$%@$ doctor saw an easy way to leave work early.

I’m trying to understand this.
So sadly because you are a Doctor or you are in medical profession your time is somehow more valuable than mine. Even when I went to school more than you did (mine was about 11 years).
So I go there and I’m on time. it takes the doctor a good 30 minuets before he can see me.
He asked the same questions that his assistance has asked me before ! so no communication there between them!
He has no idea that I have an MRI on file-​which I reminded his assistance before and him pretending that he is taking notes ! THE Doctor Orders yet another X-​RAY (yes, I love more radiation specially when you don’t take that extra half hour that you were late to read or even maybe just please browse through it :-) .
Out of this 5 appointments I was late once for about 12 minuets. After being frowned upon and telling me that the cut of time is 10 minuets (by the way I have no control over traffic/​new construction jam) they say that the doctor agreed to see me. I was thinking, well he must be overbooked that’s why it takes him over half an hour into the appointment to come and actually see me. considering my experience he is not taking that time to read my chart either so no problem he will be able to see me in no time. Sure enough to teach me a lesson he sees me about an hour and half later.
So the bottom line is it’s OK if I wait for you for over 30 minuets but it’s not OK for you to wait for me for 10, Right?
Sends me down stairs to get knee braces.
After scheduling a month in advance. I show up for the appointment sure enough there are no braces! Seriously and you are charging me for this. Money should be growing on trees on side of your town!
Now they told me the appointment would take approximately 1 hour. Why? so they can adjust the non existing knee brace. No Problem.
She takes a measuring tape pretending that she is measuring my knee with one quick measurement and huh she even doesn’t bother to write this down. She must have an amazing memory … Let’s say they think we are all idiots and buy into their little performance!
Two weeks later they call. I don’t recognize the phone number. I call them back and asked them who they are. The person who picks up the phone hangs up on me. I love your hospitality too my friend. Not only you value my time but you are super friendly as well!
I google the phone and sure enough it’s them. I think my knee braces should be ready (did I forget to mention that I was in pain! Or at least I was over a month a go when I booked my first appointment?)
I ask them to transfer me to their physical therapy manager.
They transfer me to him.
Here is the kicker, all he wants to know is how I found his phone number !!!
He doesn’t care what my problem is or if he can resolve it.
All he wants to know is how could I get in touch with him.
You know what; I love you guys.
I think people should come and visit you for sure or they won’t know what is a true meaning of what ever this is. Don’t want to even call it a service!

The staff at the surgical center — from reception to post-​op care nursing staff — are exceptional in every way. They took phenomenal care of our youngest for his outpatient surgery and kept us informed every step of the way while we waited.
The facilities are first class and very comfortable.
Thanks for taking such wonderful care of our family today!

I guess the main thing to understand is that this surgery center treats surgery as an assembly-​line procedure. This is not a bad thing. These are routine surgeries, and I for one was glad to see them handled efficiently and systematically — the last thing I wanted was a surgeon who tried to get creative.
However, this might not be the right center for someone who wants a lot of warm talk and face time with the surgeon. Most (though not all) of the negative reviews are from folks who found the efficiency off-​putting.
As others have mentioned, you will do a bit of trotting around to various desks. Don’t be concerned. The directions to different locations are very clear. I was immediately offered a wheelchair, probably because I needed a crutch to walk, but I’m sure someone with a less obvious disability could have a wheelchair for the asking.
The staff were all speedy and were also pleasant — brisk, not brusque. The imaging tech, in particular, had me in and out in just a few minutes while also being quite friendly. My surgeon (Dr. Jason Kurian) spent no unnecessary time with me, but left nothing unaddressed. Basically, «efficient» is the word we’re looking for to describe every step of the process. :)
ETA: Re-​reading this, I realized that I forgot to mention the great anesthesiologist. He called me at home a few days before the surgery to ask the vital questions himself, just in case, and I liked knowing that the guy who would put me under was the same guy who had asked about allergies and other reactions. He, too, was quite quick and efficient on the phone. :)
The one area where they might have improved a bit was in the provision of immediate pre-​op instructions. If I’m going to need a bottle of a particular antimicrobial wash, I’d really like to know that earlier than the same day I need it. I would have preferred to have these instructions, and the narcotics script, a week in advance rather than the day before. I believe this was the result of one email not getting sent rather than of unconcern, though, so I can’t be too angry about it.
Again, this might not be the awesomest choice for someone who wants a lot of bedside manner. I just wanted the surgery done well, and in fact am a bit leery of surgeons who seem overinvested, so for me it was perfect.

Great all the way through from scheduling, front desk, assistants and doctor (Dr. Montgomery). Great with kids, clean and efficient facility with all services on-​site. This will be our go-​to orthopedic clinic for our family going forward for sure after seeing two others that were just ok.

I’ve been to the clinic for 3 different issues over the past 4 years. Aside from the receptionist turning away business by making the judgement call of how quickly you need to be seen, hence the 4 stars and not 5 stars you couldn’t ask for more.
My sports medicine doctor Dr. Crist (Top Portland Doc) referred me to Dr. Davitt when he thought I needed surgery. He said that if his mom needed surgery that is the doctor he would want to see her.
Dr. Davitt is outstanding. Caring, informing, and conservative. I’ve had 2 issues that have surgical and non surgical fixes he informed me of the research, gave his input– try the non surgical option 1^st on both occasions. So he is not in a hurry to slice and dice.
After doing to PT, I found out he is also my therapist doctor– she did have to have surgery and was happy with the outcome.
He is well respected in the medical community for his skills. And I couldn’t have asked for more. Well maybe if I could stay on my own 2 feet it might be nice so I don’t have to see so often :)

I have had three visits in the last nine months to O&FS but will look elsewhere the next time I injure a knee or shoulder. My first visit was via referral from my PCP and was great — no long wait time, pleasant staff, and Dr. Denes and his PA were very thorough and patient with me, as this was my first time seeing an orthopedic specialist so I had a lot of questions.
However, since then, just getting an appointment scheduled has been the first challenge. And the non-​physician staff, while seemingly efficient, give off a vibe that you are just a number instead of a patient — very impersonal. I’ve been to attorneys’ offices where I’ve gotten a warmer vibe. On my most recent visit, another condition had surfaced since I made my appointment ~three weeks earlier, which I mentioned to three people prior to seeing Dr. Denes. I also was asked to complete paperwork about the purpose of my visit, so I documented there both problems that I was hoping to have treated, or at least discussed.
Which was a big waste of time as I don’t think anyone looked at the paperwork, and clearly they were only interested in hearing about the initial injury that had prompted my appointment. And to add insult to injury (no pun intended), Dr. Denes greeted me by saying «Nice to meet you». Wow — that makes you feel pretty valued when you’re a returning patient. When I brought up to him the second problem that I was experiencing, it was brushed off as if I was wasting his time by asking about something that was not related to the initial purpose of my visit.
I am a cancer survivor who has seen my share of doctors, and was incredibly fortunate to have been treated by some of the most caring, empathetic and patient doctors and nurses that I have ever encountered. O&FS was a reality check and a reminder that to many doctors, you ARE just a number or a faceless customer of some large bureaucracy.

First I want to be clear this review reflect only on the office personnel. If you can make it past them the doctors are great.
Long wait time on hold to schedule an appointment. Person answering makes you feel like you are a bother for wanting an appointment.
Their billing department is atrocious as their figures were not accurate and the patient portion was not quoted anywhere near what I was informed.
I had three surgeries thru this office all of which are a success thanks to the dr. However, I need more surgery & I am choosing to go elsewhere due to the unkind office staff. Especially those answering the phones to schedule & billing.

Jason Kurian is the WORST EVER!!! Arrogant, condescending and just plain BAD! he never even did any exam after waiting for hour +. Avoid this place!!!
