Overlook Park

Awesome park, but they need to move the dog off leash area. The park has a beautiful view of the train depot and downtown.

Portland can have much of it’s skyline overlooked from Overlook Park. There is also an adjacent light rail station. The infrastructure could be better, as the drinking fountains currently have issues. However, this is a yellow line ride to downtown which is not time consuming.
I liked this park. It has lots of opportunity for relaxing. Picnic benches are under a roof as not to be affected by the rain. The view of the Fremont Bridge and Montgomery Park is most exquisite. A great feeling is to be had here.
The park is an elegant one.

Beautiful open space for kids and dogs to run around. As I was writing this, some kind of nut fell from the tree I’m standing under, I look up and there is a family of sweet squirrels saying good morning.
Fully equipped children’s play set, swing set, basketball hoop and baseball field. Lovely family touch to portland

I would love to give this park 5 stars. It is by far, the loveliest park in Portland. There is a nice wood chip path around the outskirts, so it’s great for doing laps while taking in the breathtaking view of downtown and the train yard. The playground is nice, partly shaded in the early afternoon. My experience with my daughter would have been an idyllic one if not for the drug dealers and vagrants taking over the south side of the park, including the picnic shelter. Overlook park seems to have turned into the Greeley homeless camp’s living room.

Pretty. Not too busy on the weekday, though there are a fair amount of people using the track. If you have a dog that is prone to distractedness, this could be a problem because people are constantly walking & running by. However, the hospital staff are friendly that the ones usually frequenting the park around lunch time on a weekday. Lots of room to romp & play fetch.
Some random people (read: sketchy) now and then.

Great convenient location with a cool view of the city. It’s not the largest of parks, but it’s a fun place to catch an outdoor festival.

Love this park. Right off the yellow line. Couldn’t be easier to get to! Has a great big tree, perfect to lay under on a blanket with a good book. Also, cozy grass and a great view!

Great big park located close by my favorite neighborhood. Perfect place to lay in the sun and blow bubbles. Not too many dogs running around so I would say it’s still off the radar as a dog park. Sweeping views of the Wilamette and plenty of grass for everyone.
Down side, I only saw one porta pottie, seems like a place that could benefit from some real restrooms.

A really nice quiet park with a cool view of the train tracks and shipping areas along the river. My two complaints: 1) I am not a fan of any place with an off-​leash area, but whatever it is posted. Supposedly there are certain times when it’s allowed or not allowed, and I didn’t see those times listed. So be careful where you step, not all of the dog owners actually pick it up. 2) There needs to be some seating on both sides of the park. There are some nice trees on the NE side of it, and a bench or two would have been a nice touch. But it’s a good place to take your best friend for some swingset fun (yes the seats fit adult apple bottoms), and if you really want to get dizzy and puke there is always the merry-​go-​round.

I’m surprised no one has reviewed this and also surprised that the majority of people I speak to about this park have never heard of it… it’s a great park!
Overlook Park is perched up on the hill above the Willamette River in North Portland with expansive views of downtown from almost any corner of the park. Not only are there spaces for baseball, basketball and soccer but there is a jogging track, tether ball pole and I think space for volleyball. Next to all the sporting fields is a large kids play area with swings, jungle gym, teeter totter, merry-​go-​round and more! There is also a large covered picnic area to keep you shaded during the hot summer days or dry during drizzly fall BBQs. If you are interested in reserving it for a big party, I think you can do so by contacting the Portland Parks & Rec office. Down further from the picnic area is a summer wading pool as well as an off leash dog park (not fenced). The dog park has poop bags and a water fountain near by… but bring your own water bowl.
The hours of the park are from 5am to Midnight however most of the park is not all that well lit at night making me feel a little uncomfortable to walk around late at night.
There are also several events which are held during the summer here — the biggest probably being the Organic Brewers Festival. I just moved in a block away so I am MORE THAN EXCITED for this event to take place! You can bet there will be a little shindig at my house before/​after.
Overall… the park is great for families, sports fans, dog owners, sun bathers and possibly even some «adults» (read: 22 year olds… 27 year olds, in my case!) looking for some late night drunky drunk fun on the merry-​go-​round and teeter totters! Go easy on the spinning though! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!
Only reason it gets 4 stars is because the dog area is not fenced. Fortunately, it IS off the main road and only near a quiet driveway into a parking lot. Most dogs tend to just stay on the lawn anyways, but if your dog has a tendency to run off… this may not be the best place to bring them. I’ve never seen more than 3 dogs here (including mine) at once but I’ve only been going for the past couple fall/​winter months. I imagine it will be busier in warmer months.
