I haven’t personally been here but would love to! I received chocolates from here as a gift — oh my! They are absolutely delicious! I hope they ship to the East Coast as I’d like to send these as gifts for the holidays! :)

Portlanders know the Pearl Bakery, one of Portland’s first to make French– and Italian-style breads with a proper crust. They are also known for their stunning bochon, a secret recipe of several different chocolates. The Pearl Bakery head pastry chef, Teresa Ulrich, after a stint at the French Laundry, created a startup within the Bakery making truffles and bonbons from single origin chocolate. She developed personal relationships with Fiji cacao farmers to revive their orchards as well as sourcing from Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Ecuador, Brazil and Hawaii. The truffles are beautiful, but not baroque over the top in appearance, with a clean modern design. They include other fresh flavor ingredients. And each has a story of its origins. For now they are available at the Pearl Bakery on NW9th and Couch, at Pastaworks and at culinary events. Sometimes they hold tastings First Thursday at the Pearl Bakery. Pearl Chocolates joins the about half dozen chocolate makers in Portland starting with cacao beans. Pearl chocolates focuses on beautiful bonbons and truffles with a varietal ingredients that are a delight to experience.
