Had a cupcake from here for the first time: the Irish Oatmeal Cupcake. This was the best cupcake I have ever had. Super moist and full of taste. So glad I stopped here.

I organised a surprise birthday party for a special lady who it very gluten intolerant. Marilyn worked with me to discus options and ensure the cake was a success, including a photo transfer. The cake was delicious, everyone loved it, and it looked wonderful. The photo transfer was perfect. It was ready on time and everything about the process was a breeze. If only every custom order would go this easily! Piece of Cake delivered on everything they promised and the quality was better than I hoped for. I highly recommend them!

I cant imagine what someone would think of 20 or 30 years ago if they thought of a bakery. This place is stuck in that time. Its a bakery. They offer tea and coffee and water but their specialty is cake. Cupcakes, slices of cake and whole cakes. The lounge is being updated so look for a better hangout to come. The staff is super friendly and always greet you as soon as you walk in. There is always a wide selection of cupcakes. Gluten Free, Vegan, and regular options are available in all of their selcetions. They have cales ready made they can decorate for you if you are in a hurry or they make special orders if you give them a day or two. I have yet to taste a better cake in all of Portland. I am not saying there are not other good cakes just none quite at the level of Piece of Cake. It has been a consistent high quality cakes and cupcakes over the years of our kids birthdays. I know the appearance may throw you off but you are there for the cakes and they are delicious.

I think Piece of Cake makes delicious cakes but two stars are for their prices. I ordered a birthday cake last week, nothing fancy, nothing over the top. It was a normal size, round, two layer cake. I even paid an extra $ 5 for lettering which looked really nice. However… When we picked up the cake, the price tag almost knocked me over. $ 60 for a cake!!! I was floored… the cake did taste very good but I will not be ordering from them again.

We stopped in here on my birthday to pick up a cupcake or two. As soon as I walked in, I was put off by the appearance of the bakery. It seems very run down and dirty, not really what you want to see in a bakery. I was also kind of surprised that most of the cupcakes were $ 4.50. And there were no vanilla cupcakes. What kind of cupcake place doesn’t offer vanilla cupcakes? So we ended up getting their signature cupcake, the Chantilly, and a chocolate mint cupcake. The Chantilly is chocolate with cream cheese frosting. The frosting was extremely sweet and gritty. The cake was very dry. The mint frosting on the other cupcake was whipped like cool whip. I was really disappointed. Finally, the ladies working were not the friendliest. I was standing there for several minutes before anyone bothered to wait on me. I won’t be coming back.

I ate here for the first time yesterday and it was absolutely amazing. They had a unique variety of cakes, cupcakes, brownies and apparently even homemade ice cream(unfortunately, I did not get the chance to try that this time, but I definitely will be in the near future). Not only this, but they had select desserts in vegan or gluten free options which I thought was kind of cool. The people there are super friendly and sweet, as well. When I went, I got the Marionberry Chocolate cupcake and it was to die for. The cupcake was moist, the frosting was a bit more hard than I would have liked, but the marionberry and chocolate combo was amazing. Not only this, but we ate there and were served on very nice, almost fancy China-like plates in their retro style establishment. They had lots of quirky types of things laying around from 70s style couches to a giant ET display and these amazing crystal-embedded tables. All in all, this place was amazing, the people were friendly and the servings were huge. Well worth a visit.

The vegan cakes and cupcakes are pretty on par as long as they are fresh, otherwise they can get a little dry. Definitely take your order to go– the atmosphere is super odd, like you’re in your grandmas attic and having to move piles of stuff to eat your cake.

Just want to thank Marilyn and the girls for making a beautiful cake for my daughter Stephanie’s baby shower this past weekend. Not only was is creative and made exactly as specified with the theme we picked out but the guests raved about how delicious it was and asked where it was made. Nothing short of wonderful. My daughter and I are repeat customers and only have Marilyn do our cakes for us. Thanks again ladies!

I paid $ 200 for this«naked» cake. I knew what I asked for wouldn’t come out exactly like that picture I showed them but how exactly did $ 200 go into this cake? Is it made of gold? This was the biggest disappointment of my birthday. It just looks like two unfinished cakes stacked on top of each other. Not only that but the rosemary she said that grew outside of the bakery would be perfect on my cake. I went into the store to pick up my cake assuming she would have put it on the cake. WRONG. I had to go outside and snip off pieces of rosemary because I had no other choice. When I saw my cake I was in shock. I had 3 hours until my birthday party and decided to improvise and get my own cake decorations. I wish I had hung up the phone and just bought cupcakes from the place down the street from my house. I was so upset that no time or care was put into my cake. Would it have killed them to add even the rosemary themselves? So disappointing. Wish I could get my money back.

Cupcakes under five dollars, cakes of all kinds, and a new flavor for me to try today! This place has an adorable kitschy interior and their cakes, cupcakes, and mini cupcakes are all delicious. I’ve never had anything bad here. I can’t recommend it enough.

The truly evanescence cupcakes and cozy décor have brought me back again and again. This establishment deserves every one of the five stars.

Just magic! I happened by while picking up a friend’s birthday dinner and the owner was so helpful. There were candles available, and delicious cakes – cupcakes and whole cakes/by the slice. She even threw in a child’s bracelet to make a festive presentation(who does that?)! Thanks, Marylyn!

Three and a half stars is right. Got the triple fudge cake and it was very good. Not amazing nor worth the bang for the buck, but nevertheless very good. Double layer 6 inch cake was $ 45, which is steep for a small cake. Now I knew what I was paying, I’m not some jackass that goes«amazing food and service but too expensive, one star» which just says you are cheap and cannot read. I was aware of the price and expected the best cake in Portland. It’s not, definitely overpriced. Nice enough for a sweet treat but whole cake again, not sure. I agree with some of the comments, décor lacks. It makes the place look dirty. Clean up and some fresh paint would help. Spoke to the owner who took the order, she sounded distracted. Rushed me on the phone and asked for spelling of what I wanted on the cake 3 times which didn’t make me feel confident. Turned out fine, but she should slow down and focus on the call at hand. Great customer service is just as important as a great product. Hanging up on me once you confirmed what I wanted with no closure or a good bye… well just weird. And not in the good PDX way.

Took a trip to Portland for my friend’s 30th birthday & needed a birthday cake. Researched«best cakes» and came across this place. Checked out the website and it seemed that it would fit my friends criteria. Emailed 3 days before and Marilyn immediately called(same day) to discuss details. Worked with us to create a cake within our budget. Being visitors, we didn’t have a car to pick the cake up but Marilyn was nice enough to have it delivered to our hotel for a fee. Great customer service!

I heard rumors about this place long before I moved to Sellwood, heard it was voted Portland’s best cake and stories about oh-how-good the sweet treats are. And walking my dog one night I happened upon it, right there in the hood. Lucky, lucky me. The décor is, well, um, eclectic at best and cluttered if you’re not sugar-coating things. Follow my advice when I recommend looking past that. What Piece of Cake lacks in appearance it more than makes up for in taste. There is always a vast selection of cupcakes and cakes in the case. I’ve never splurged on an entire cake, fearful I’d eat it all in one sitting if I’m honest. But I have had many a cupcake. And I have savored consuming each and every one. They are unbelievably moist and topped with a buttercream frosting that is blissful. You’ll no doubt have trouble deciding, so here’s my two cents… Lemon Poppy, Chantilly, and Carrot don’t mess around in your mouth. They have one mission in there: pure pleasure. And they deliver reliably. Pro-tip: You’re gonna get hooked. And that’s okay. If you ask, they’ll hook you up with a cupcake punchcard(or proactively print it from their website, you cupcake fiend).

This is a great little bakery! We have stopped in from time to time to try their delicious cupcakes. This week, I brought in an ultrasound pic to have them make me a ‘gender reveal’ cake. Everything, from the person who helped me place the order, to the actual cake itself, was amazing. An excellent experience all around, I highly recommend them!

This place is terrific. They made a dragon inspired birthday cake for my sons 3rd birthday party. It was a huge hit. We even had vegan cupcakes which were just as delicious as the cake. They are great to work with and super flexible. Try the lemon coconut cake with strawberry filling. You won’t be disappointed.

Not really my place to sit and enjoy dessert because it’s not really ‘cute’. Good amount to pick from. Fantasy cake is really good. The espresso cake, could be better. I personally love love cake. I also tried the banana with PB and chocolate. It’s ok. You can get single slices so that’s a plus and they open late. I like fluffy cakes that aren’t too sweet and overpowering. My favorite cake hands down are from market of choice. Look it up and they have individual slices for such good deals.

Was given a piece of cake with almonds after alerting them of a nut allergy(twice), waited 30 minutes beyond our scheduled appointment time, and effectively ignored during said appointment. Attention to detail, including customer service is critical when planning a wedding. Do yourself a favor and shop around. The hassle and above average price isn’t worth mediocre cake.

I needed a dairy-free cake on short notice for my husband’s birthday. I called and the owner was super nice on the phone and said she would help me out so I made the 10-minute drive and I’m as happy as a clam with the vegan Irish oatmeal cake that I picked up! –There is an actual parking lot for the business, woohoo! –They have a really cute storefront where you can pick up slices or cupcakes and eat them there. –The owner was very nice and they took care of me really quickly. –The cake was DELICIOUS and my family practically inhaled it. –The packaging held up in the car/fridge/etc. and the cake looked great by the time we got to eat it. –I found the $ 30 price tag to be pretty fair, however don’t ask them to write anything on the cake because it costs an extra $ 5. We will definitely be back, especially since it’s so close to the New Seasons we usually go to! I can tell the owner takes pride in her business and loves what she does. It made me sad to read reviews complaining about the storefront– it’s so unique and Portland-y and even has tons of postcards to write on and unique places to sit! This is definitely a small business that I will continue to support.
