The Oregon Convention Center is so much more enjoyable with Portland Roasting Coffee. Convention centers can often jack up the prices a bit too much, but the nearby neighborhood competition in the food industry makes that a tad more difficult. The pastries are exceptional enough to be a separate bakery. They make beverages at low prices, but the displayed sodas are unfortunately priced at four dollars. A lot of seating and conversation is to be had in the small space. I was surprised about the beauty of this mere convention roaster. The cream cheese-raspberry muffin was to die for. It was rich and delicious. The iced tea is only a dollar and fifty cents. Perhaps, enjoy the celling decorations in the lobby while at it. This place would have merit outside of the convention center.

«Italian sodas here are yum — if I stretch my imagination enough, the lime Italian soda tastes almost like a Margarita.» That was my tip from yesterday when I checked in at Portland Roasting Coffee. I originally wanted an iced tea with lemonade, which they don’t make, but I ended up buying two lime Italian sodas because they were the next best thing after an Arnold Palmer and also so tasty AND I was parched after attending two afternoon classes at a trade show(«Spectrum») for the property management industry at the Oregon Convention Center. I tell you the classes are good, some outstanding, but no matter what the material gets dry by the end of the afternoon and you need something tasty and something you can fantasize about(in my case the soda tasting like a Margarita). I didn’t stop by for morning coffee or some of their tasty-looking treats because I’d filled up with my own rocket fuel at home, but I suspect it’s at least comparable to Starbucks(plus the trade show folks ponied up with free coffee and treats for all of attendees — what can I say?). The shop is clean and bright. The staff is friendly and helpful. When I stopped in for my second lime Italian soda, the young man who had helped me before stepped up and remembered I’d had the Italian soda. I thought that was pretty darned good after serving the large crowds there at the trade show. This is a place to which I would return when in the neighborhood, and if you’re near a Portland Roasting Coffee outlet, I recommend you stop by too.
