Came here and got a sugar and cinnamon elephant ears while at the Portland Saturday Farmers market for breakfast. There is a seating area nearby, and many had the same idea as me, to grab a coffee or something else to eat from a nearby food stand, have a seat, enjoy that breakfast while people and nature watching. The elephant ears were a tasty pastry treat. I really think it’s unnecessary to get the extra toppings, as it would make it too sweet. Cash only! One ATM is nearby.

For some reason I was thinking the elephant ear would be kind of like a deep fried churro pancake. It was more like warm thin pita bread covered in cinnamon sugar. I didn’t like the thinness… I was looking more for a fluffy texture. Nonetheless, it was a nice snack to have while walking around the market, cheap too! There are other vendors who sell elephant ears, but from what I heard this is the original vendor here at the Saturday Market.

Never had Elephant Ears before I came by this tent at the Saturday Market. Nothing special but it was good! It’s basically a crispy pancake with cinnamon sugar all over with the same taste as a churro. It’s a giant piece so you can share plenty with friends!

awesome fried sugary goodness. essentially like a mixture of fennel cake and churro. fried dough in a huge shapeless treat, drenched in cinnamon and sugar. deliciously soft and sweet. perfect for a little break and sit by the spraying water on Portland’s Saturday Market.

Not sure why no one’s ever added Elephant Ears as its own Unilocal entry because its all the rage at the Saturday Market. It seems that anybody who knows Portland will recommend elephant ears as a must-do item. Depending on your propensity for sweets, you may find this novelty an overrated attraction. The concept is simple. First, you take a large pita bread. Second, it coat it with cinnamon and sugar. Third, you have the option of filling it with chocolate or jam. And that’s about it. Why is this popular? It’s about as logical as why PDX has so many strip clubs(yes, this is the fourth time I’ve mentioned this anomaly). Is it worth the $ 3.50? Yes, if you can still stomach the food after eating out all day. Is it worth the wait? Maybe, if you have normal attention spans.
