I live pretty close and this is a good workspace, they have WiFi and despite being pretty much on the PCC campus they always have seating. Friendly baristas. Decent coffee, not my absolute favorite in town but works for me. Better than most places. Also I’m not a big fan of their version of the cappuccino, a bit on the latte side even if you ask for it dry. Best part of the red e café is the Mushroom Manchego Biscuit. Get this, and ask for it heated over the toaster(the toaster part is key). Yes, this is a biscuit that is made by some bakery in Portland, and other coffee shops within a mile or two even carry this — however, NOwhere else do they prepare it this way, and WOW. Prepare to be blown away. You will never get this anywhere else that doesn’t heat it over a toaster again. Delicious! keeps me coming back :)

Great café on a somewhat busy street. Plenty of room to sit and read. Also plenty of sockets. You don’t feel like you need to hurry out of here.

Yummy food, delicious coffee, super nice staff, great vibe. I like studying here or just catching something to eat/drink before class. Will definitely be back!

This place is pretty inconspicuous among other cafes in NE Portland, so I overlooked it for a long time. I’m glad that I finally made it in, as this is my new favorite joint to grab an espresso.(Sorry Case Study.) I don’t have anything to say about their pour-over coffee yet, as their regular drip is so, so good. Really friendly and meticulous baristas.

This was a pretty nice café for doing your work… The music is pleasant. Plenty of tables and couch space… The place is well lit and the red accent adds to the ambience. Good place for getting work done and friendly barista too! A lot of choices for chai and the coffee was good as well. We had the carrot pineapple muffin… I dint get the flavor of either but it tasted fine. Hit the spot if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a café!

It’s about $.50 more per espresso drink than I like to pay but I’ve never had a bitter sip here and it’s a nice calm interior.

I never write Unilocal reviews, but the quality of the customer service and their roasts were absolutely stellar. The employee was incredibly helpful and easy to talk to: he answered my silly consumer questions about buttons and magnets while maintaining an appropriate amount of small talk. And their beans have incredibly vibrant tasting notes. What’s written on the package is exactly what you taste.

UPDATE: I am changing my review from five stars to four. I came back; the music was so loud, that I could not think or concentrate on my work. People could not hear each other talk. Why bother go to a coffee shop of you can’t work, study, or have a conversation… ORIGINALREVIEW: I had forgotten about this place. This coffee shop is as close to perfection as any coffee shop is going to get. They have plenty of tables and outlets, the music is not too loud, and everyone I dealt with was nice. To top it off, my latte was one of the best I have had in a while. It was worth the drive from Gresham… I will drive again tomorrow!

I like the place and I’m enjoying my drink, but I was just charged $ 4.75 for a quad americano. The same drink is $ 3.50-$ 4.25 at other, equally good, third wave cafes in the neighborhood. I asked if the price was right and they said it was. $ 2.75 for a single americano and another $ 2.00 to make it a quad. There’s a line in my head of what I’m willing to pay for my morning drink and $ 4.75 crosses it. I’m going to have to take the Red-e out of my rotation.

First time in this little hidden gem. Found it via a Facebook article, yet didn’t discount it as I might normally. As always when trying someplace new I order the usual to see how it compares to others. Great coffee. The barista who appeared to really be more of a baristatender is engaging and sets the tone. Nice display of local art providing a typical né coffee shop vibe. If you are looking for a good cup, nice atmosphere and engaging barista give E a shot.

I thought this would be an average coffee meeting, but it was more akin to opening up the latest issue of a food magazine where the cover story is the latest trends in coffee and tea. As I stepped up to order I was intrigued by something I spotted on draft, coffee soda. When I asked the very friendly barista about it, she suggested I try it, and then every other cold coffee beverage and their specialty iced teas. The coffee soda was amazing as was the coffee and tea blend. In the end I settled on ordering an iced mint fennel tea, which was brilliantly refreshing. Can’t wait to go back!

Came here for a week straight after work to study for a state exam. Loved that it was open till 8pm, which provided me time to study as most pdx cafes close around 5/6pm. Coffee was good, I get the iced coffee, it was yummy! Great place for studying, most of the other patrons in there had their ear buds in + were typing away.

A giant, red, neon e hangs in the glass window storefront of red e café. Brick and white walls with hanging art enclose the space, its few busily working patrons, and a variety of open seating. Music is playing at a low, non-distruptive level in the background. At first approach, I asked the friendly barista what a coffee soda sparkler is, since I hadn’t seen it anywhere else before. Very simply, it is a carbonated, sweetened, and vanilla flavored ice coffee beverage. I can see why this coffee shop is a beloved study spot, with good drinks and good atmosphere.

This is our closest café and I cannot complain. We’ve ordered coffee, chai, ice tea over several visits and its been consistently good. Friendly staff and skilful baristas… As for the atmosphere — it’s spacious and there’s a nice choice between bar seating, tables and lower soft benches — there’s a seat to suit your needs. You could easily get some work done here as its peaceful enough too. Or even play a little chess(there’s a board), read a book, chat with a friend… It’s all good at Red e.

Do you need to GETSH*T DONE? Red e Café is probably the best place in town to prop up your macbook and use some complimentary Wi-fi. This is a really cool space that feels like an art gallery(probably because it is) and has plenty of seating — the many small tables type of seating because they kind of cater to the macbook + free Wi-fi crowd I just described. This is probably due to its proximity to PCC Cascade, I’m assuming. The coffee is full-bodied and tasty, the staff are fun, and they have a good selection of pastries. The last time I was in here there was a kitty sleeping on the back sofa who would wake up every so often to jump up on my lap or politely tap my shoulder for pets. I love this café.

I’m pretty picky about where I can study. This place is spacious – they have a lot of outlets, some neat art on the walls to check out, quality coffee, and good service. There’s table seating and couch seating. I like to take breaks and roam around a bit when I study. Recommended! Tip: $ 5 min. credit card charge.

There are a lot of five star reviews for this place. Did I miss something? It’s a coffee shop. They have coffee, free wi-fi, and a few pastry choices. There must be something especially hipster about this place that I don’t understand which leads to the super star reviews this place is getting. Anyway, this is a fine place to get some coffee, but you don’t need to go out of your way to make a visit.

Very cool Portland gem. Friendly baristas. Had to try the coffee soda and it was refreshing and had the right amount of acidity and sweetness and wasn’t too carbonated. Husband enjoyed his mocha. Mushroom and manchego biscuit was delish! Interesting artwork adorning the walls. A wonderful neighborhood coffee place. I wish we had one of these in Seattle.

Great place to write, work, read! I’m a bestselling author and the Red E is one of my favorite spots to work. Their coffee is fabulous, the seats are comfortable, and they are great for the neighborhood here.

Coffee Soda? Exceptional. I have never had anything like this and I highly recommend. A friend of mine suggested I try it and I just kept putting off going in here. No reason, but wow, the Coffee Soda put a pep in my step. Friendly service. The setting is pretty simplistic and open. Patrons all occupied on some digital device. They had an assortment of seating throughout. I haven’t tried their regular drip coffee drinks or food.

In a town full of great coffee, the Red E stands alone for both the excellent coffee and a warm and welcoming space. The baristas are friendly and fun. I always feel like I am home whenever I am there. Even if you don’t live nearby it is worthy of a trip to North Portland.

I ended up here for hours. I had homework, and I looked on Unilocal for a place with good seating, and I decided on this place! There was plenty of seating for groups and individuals. I had already had coffee, so I decided on loose leaf tea. They have a large selection to choose from, and they’re all on display for you to sniff and decide. $ 3 for a small mug of tea seems a bit much, but whatever. She handed me the mug with the steeper full of tea in top. I thought it was cute! Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure how long I was supposed to steep it for, resulting in an over-steeped bitter tea. Wish they would have given a recommended time when they gave us the reigns. Oh well. Free wifi. I didn’t feel rushed to get out, and I’m serious. I was there for 4+ hours! Some gluten free baked goods to choose from as well.
