With a recent transition from DC to Portland, I was on the search for a barber. Upon entering on a Friday around 1:30 pm, there were only two barbers present, but both cutting hair. The first barber, closest to the door, had 4 clients, so he suggested the barber next to him, Jake, cut my hair. The client he was cutting when I arrived had similar hair to mine and he did a good job with it. Jake’s first question to me…“Do you want me to cut with the grain or against the grain?“ I never heard that question from the barber and was concerned. I told him what I wanted and he went to work. As the cut went along, he asked if the length was fine and inquired about fine details. I guided him and I am happy with the end product. My barber in DC used a straight razor for the finishing touches, but Jake did not have one. Jake said he would have one the next time I swung through. I told him he would have me as a return client if he gets the straight razor. My wife thinks the cut is on points. There can be a wait, but that is the nature of being a walk-in. Appointments come with a $ 5 surcharge. Cuts are $ 14. Cuts plus beard shape ups/trims are $ 20. You will have to go in for the rest of the price list. Old school movies on three tv’s while you wait. Foosball table in middle of the waiting area. Video game console available too.
