I was very impressed with the knowledge of a certain employee named Lisa Ruutilla. She was able to answer all my questions and help me with all my wants and needs. Plus she’s got a nice tight little ass on her :-P

I may give it five stars, also zero stars for feeling sad to say goodbye to my favorite Starbucks barista here at Safeway, Saige, as she gets ready to move on into her future as she graduates and plans to put her degree to good use in one of the four job offers she received. She has been a constant when I visit Safeway in the mornings and always keeps me cheered up with conversation, laughter, and coffee drinks. I wish her all the best as she is a remarkable young woman.

ARE THEY TRAINED TO TREAT EVERYONE LIKE HOMELESS SCUM THAT IS TRYING TO SHOOT UP IN THEIR RESTROOM? i work in retail and even if we THINK someone is stealing from us, we DO NOT treat them like a THEIF?
So i had a catering gig down the street from this safeway and decided to stop in beofre my shift while my boyfriend grabbed a pack of cigarettes at the front, im a small 19 yo girl i was nice and clean in my catering uniform and hair braided back. I approached the floral department and respectfuly waited for the lady working to be done with her conversation, once she noticed me it didnt take long for her roll her souless eyes to ask me what i wanted, i asked where the bathroom was and she told me but it was pretty loud in there so i didnt catch the part where she said id need to get the code from the cashier. after figuring out i needed a code i went back laughed at myself and asked her for the code she responded with a snap of her now LOUD tongue and nasty scoul that id have to get it from the cashier. woops my BAD? so i stood in line after 2 people were moved through and asked for the code. all i was responded with was «customers only» and a dismisive wave of hand by the young cashier. i explained to her and pointed out that my boyfriend was buying cigs and so she then sighed at me and forked over the coad, (by this time i am about to pop!) I rush to the restrooms and come to see that a man leaving it before me had smeered his fesecies all over the walls. GREAT i get to deal wth SHITTY customer service and now this? whatever! as i leave the store i see both the nasty floral lady and bratty young cashier standing and speaking with eachother, so i approach them to let them know what is going on in the restroom so they can get to cleaning it up, for the sake of the other customers. After i tell them there was an accident in there the young cashiere sternly and loudly (llike she was done with having to deal with me) said THEN THEY ARE CLOSED and turned away from me like i need to leave them alone. i smiled and said well sweetheart IM telling you they ARENT closed so go check it out beacsue noone is able to use it. and tell your floral friend to start lickin it up cause thats all you 2 deserve at this moment.

This place has worse customer service than Walmart. Seriously Safeway, get it together. Hiring people with crappy attitudes is giving you a bad rep. GET IT TOGETHER.

First off, this location is not very clean. you walk in and wonder if they are reorganizing product. Second, the staff is incredibly rude (a majority of the time). Every time I’ve asked for ant sort of help, it seems as if I am completely inconveniencing them. I’ve attempted to go back 4 times and I have decided I will no longer try.

By day, this Safeway is small and generally more expensive than Fred Meyer.
By night, this store turns into the UnSafeway, where the meth is cheaper than most Fred Meyer.

Terrible managers and management, very long lines, outdated (the store’s stuck in 1978) unorganized and overpriced. With the exception of a few, the Customer Service workers are rude, incompetent liars.

There are two places all men, women, and children should strive to avoid in their time on this earth. One of them is Hell. The other is the Safeway in SW Portland. While I never like to write a scathing review of a place of business, I must INSIST that anyone who happens to read this review avoid this particular location at all costs. For one, its not a terribly warm and inviting shopping experience as it is impossible to find anything, its always overrun with a large population of the downtrodden, and its simply not a pleasant place to be in. I happen to like Safeway as a company, but this particular location just is not one that I can in good conscience recommend my worst enemy to shop at.

I remember when we used to steal half-​racks of Blitz Weinhard from this store and then sit and drink them in the parking lot.
So, they remodel this store, and guess what! This new one has about the same crappy, limited selection as the last iteration of it did; only it’s obscenely overpriced for the income level of its neighbors! Which are mostly PSU students and low-​income housing residents.
And, the people who work here are just plain rude, and nigh-​useless when it comes to asking where specific items are. Where in hell do they get these people from, Labor Ready? Anyone who’s any decent at his or her job doesn’t last long, which is an indictment on the store’s management.
The produce is for the most part decent, at least, and so far I haven’t had any complaints about the meat and seafood departments, either. It’s just that the store is so limited in its offerings, is staffed by surly boors, and the lines are invariably long most of the time I go there, that I decided yesterday to go to the Safeway on Lovejoy instead.
As for all those homeless people loitering in the dining area and panhandling outside, welcome to Portland — a city that’s only good for yuppies and bums. Just ignore them and stop giving them money.

We’re here from out-​of-​town and had read the reviews on this Safeway before we came here. From the brutal reviews, I was expecting the worst. Upon actually going here, I have no idea why so many people rag on this place. Yes, there are homeless people around. It is what it is. The store itself has good produce, an easy-​to-​follow layout, and everything we could possibly need during our stay here. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat any of the self-​serve ready-​to-​eat items, but I wouldn’t do that at most places because I don’t trust that other people can’t not be gross lol. Other than that, we’ve been here 3 times so far and have found it to always be clean and well-​stocked and we’ve not encountered any issues. Quality is the same as it is in Dallas (Tom Thumb = Safeway). Good enough for us!

We are in Portland often for medical and this Safeway is perfectly set between the streetcar stops. Always very helpful employees!

Here we have an elegant Safeway. It looks nice while it is easily accessible to pedestrians. There is lots of options, though prices are sometimes high for what you get. Fred Meyer and Trader Joes are the best option for the average Joe around Portland. This Safeway’s frozen selection is huge.
What got me to go through those doors was what appeared to be a Coca-​Cola Freestyle machine. A small cup was available for $ 1.50 and I got Coca-​Cola Orange, nominally a product of the United Kingdom. The downtown has lots of nearby locations to potentially eat a packaged lunch.
It is delightful that a Safeway stands where it stands.

Love there pharmacy hours and pharmacist… great service and always have treated me good

I want to give this place 4 stars for the convenient location in downtown, availability of parking spots up front and their hours… BUT the consistent haranguing from the homeless and mentally challenged in front of the doors is a total buzzkill. Can a person buy groceries in peace for once? I don’t mind homeless people asking for change but random screaming and evil stares from junkies and the likes makes you question the security and law enforcement in the area. Do not recommend coming here after midnight unless you want to regret your life decisions :/

I like this Safeway and miss being able to walk here for my groceries. I still come here some and I can still walk to where what I want is on auto pilot. Safeway caries a few things that are hard to find other places. Staff is hit or miss and checkout lines can be long,
The draw for me is the people watching. Lets just say you see almost all types of humanity here. I have yet to see violence but I have seen lots of relationships in trouble… Tonight there was a women hanging out in the front door staring in. She was fairly out of it and did not respond to my «excuse me»
If you need the restroom you need to hunt down an employee for the code first.
There is usually parking in front and lots in the basement.

All the employees where super helpful and friendly. Their was a lady who seemed to be stocking the wine all who seem extremely knowledgeable and help me pick out a great bottle:)

I really like the deli area early in the morning before anyone else gets there. The staff are always very friendly, quite happy, and very helpful. The selection is good for how small the store is. If it were larger, it would be nice to see a few more pre-​packaged salads with dark green leaves and better ingredients. But, for that I can go to a different store. This location is very conveniently located.

Conveniently located in downtown Portland, this Safeway is a good place to grab a few items during lunch. It is true that the self-​checkout line can become quite long, but I think that is more due to too many anti-​social people rather than Safeway’s shortcomings. Contrary to some of the other reviews here, I have found there to be ample check-​out staff who are consistently friendly, talkative, efficient, and accommodating. I have even had a checker give me a 50% discount on an item when I explained to her that a comparable item was 50% off, talk about going above and beyond!
Their selection is not amazing, but it is adequate, and they have everything you’d generally expect in a grocery store (deli, meat, seafood, bakery, produce etc.). The produce is pretty good, again nothing exceptional. Prices are probably a touch higher than what you’d find in a grocery store farther from downtown, but that’s the price you pay for convenience, and the added bonus of everyone being incredibly nice and helpful makes it an easy pill to swallow.

The «self-​serve «QUICK CHECK» line often goes on for days !
I don’t like this one either. People are rude, bumping into each other nearly every time (which are fewer and fewer in number) I go here. The «usual» PORTLAND HOMELESS PANHANDLING OUTSIDE BOTH ENTRANCES IS BAD HERE — A REAL TURN-​OFF.
A lot of broken older men, and young thugs.
Not a nice feeling at this one. GO ELSEWHERE. Frankly, Stadium Fred Meyer (which isn’t far from here) IS MUCH NICER ! I SHOP THERE OFTEN !

This store is conveniently located downtown in SW Portland. The store is well managed and stocked, and has upscale products. The cashiers are friendly. There is a gourmet cheese station that we really liked. Fruits and veggies are good quality. The store is clean and the isles are wide. All in all a very pleasant place to buy groceries.
