I’m not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but this place is awesome! I had fish tacos and a burrito and both dishes were ‘delicioso’ The margaritas are good and a pretty good deal during happy hour! I’ll be back soon!

Just a sellwood classic. Love going to this joint. The employees are amazing just as is the food. Never change!

The food here is okay, not fantastic and not terrible. I kept going back because it is so close to my house, but I finally couldn’t take it anymore. The service is abhorrent and made me uncomfortable even picking up food to go. I really wanted to support them because they are a small family owned restaurant, but the owner and his daughter are RUDERUDERUDE.

Wishing you the worst San Felipe. A couple nights ago it was getting late, and my husband was a little hungry. We decided to stop by San Felipe because we were close by. I on the other hand wasn’t hungry AT all. Since I was there though, I thought I would just order a mini kids burrito(that was still $ 4.50) not cheap if you ask me. My husband was gonna order a plate or some sort. Well the rude lady at the counter refused to sell me the burrito because«it’s for kids only.» Ok… I understand that it is SUPPOSED to be for a kid(at not a kid friendly price), but it’s either MONEY or NOMONEY. I told her that I wasn’t hungry ATALL and just wanted a little something since my husband came here. Well she refused AGAIN. Ok… Do you know how many times I have eaten off a «kids» menu in this town, and NO one has turned my money away? YOURFOODISNOTGOODENOUGHTOTURNDOWNMYMONEY. Since she was so awful, my poor hungry husband decided to not give them his money either, and it would have been a grown up amount! Could of charged us around $ 18, but instead got nothing cause you think I’m trying to get a «deal» with a kids $ 4.50 burrito. It’s not a deal at all, and I told you I wasn’t hungry. Do us all a favor, and go out of business

Fish tacos are great. Folks are nice. Beer is crappy and overpriced. Will go back and drink water!

Wet burritos, fish tacos, and their nachos I would strongly recommend. This place is awesome! I’m from Washington and go to Portland frequently to visit my family, this restaurant is a must stop and eat every time before we come back home.

Thier food is great and very affordable. I happen to love the soft tacos including the lengua.

This is a neighborhood place and could be better; yes it is relatively inexpensive but to pay $ 11 something for basic enchiladas I expect more; here you order at the counter and bus your own table. Our little person wanted to go so we caved– no chip and salsa basket– finally asked and it was brought to the table after our food arrived. As has been our previous experience, the food was just warm– never hot food– by the time I am finishing, my food is room temperature. I realized after a few visits it’s not just an anomaly, the barely warm food is standard. Even though it is in the ‘hood, this time it really is ‘no mas’.

This is my favorite taqueria(non-cart) in Portland, hands down.

OK — Had my husband NOTBEEN driving, we would NOT have been lost AND we would have been eating at this lovely little hole-in-the-wall place in Woodstock!!! Anyhow, the food was mediocre. The sign out front said«AUTHENTICMEXICAN»…yeah, from which part of Mexico??? The meat tacos were full of meat — but the meat was NOT flavorful and my «RANDMCNALLY» Husband stated«I have never had pork tacos that tasted like chicken.» The salsa wasn’t good, either. I was want lengua tacos — I got San Felipe’s version — no flavor. The pastor was not good either.

Really good fish taco. Halibut fish which is a nice change. Cheap eats and they have margaritas!

My second time here, and everything has been really tasty, from the pickled carrots, to the selection of salsas. Though the salsa that come with the chips was pretty much your chilled puréed tomato from a can, then cooked and refrigerated, all the ones at the salsa bar were stellar) Today I got a combination plate. Chili relleno, tofu taco and halibut taco. Only once in my life have I gotten a fresh chili relleno where the egg batter was crisp, so I won’t fault them for the soft but fresh coating. It was a tasty poblano that came with stewed bell peppers on top. I liked the balance of flavors, and appreciated that it wasn’t overly gooed up with cheese as happens at most places. The tofu was overseasoned, like a spice mix with too much salt. Eaten all at once – as a taco should be, it was not as bad as on its own. The halibut taco has a sweet sauce reminiscent of tartar but not. I tend not to like sweet in this type of a dish, but most would probably not mind.

San Felipe was one of the first«authentic» taquerias I had been to in Portland. This was back in the 90’s when it was just a very small, sleepy taco joint. It has evolved quite a bit.. .now it has a larger space with a full bar and a couple of flat screen TVs. Their fish taco has been a specialty there for quite a while. I like it because it’s made with halibut rather than some other generic no-name whitefish. I would have liked it even more if it was grilled instead of fried, but it’s still very good. In addition to shredded cabbage and pico de gallo, it was also topped with their«secret sauce» which had kind of a sweet taste. That sweet taste was a bit unusual for a taco, but I liked it. I also had one of their«made fresh daily by hand» chicken tamales. I ordered mine topped with green Verde sauce. The tamale was large, moist, and had a lot of chicken meat in it.. .all good. Overall, I got tasty, well prepared food in a pleasant place.. .with football games showing on both TVs. No complaints!

I love this great little neighborhood place. Great margaritas, great burritos and best of all great pricing. I’m shocked at the negative reviews. I’ve NEVER had a bad meal here. Can’t wait to go again.

I would def eat here again. Burrito needs more meat and less rice, but the flavor is on point!

What quaint little place! From the music to the décor, it actually felt like we were in Mexico. The wet burritos were fantastic, as was my $ 5 margarita! And who can resist complimentary chips and salsa? After seeing a movie at Moreland, we stopped in here for dinner. The Mexican restaurant down the street was closed — and I’m glad, or we wouldn’t have thought to try this place. It was close to closing time, but we got very good service and not to feel like we were being rushed out the door. The prices were also very good, which made seeing a $ 5 movie and getting food here after a really great evening out.

I like this place. My sister and I ended up here because Salvador Molly’s(or whatever that place is called) was mobbed and we didn’t have the patience to wait for an hour before eating. Glad we went to SFT instead. Complimentary chips and salsa, love the chips, though the salsa(or pico de gallo, whatever it was) served with it was just okay. however, they have four other self-serve salsa options that were awesome. I loved the avocado salsa and mixed in a spicy orange(habanero??) one. Delicious. The menu is large – it took me awhile to decide. Settled on a ‘sope’(thick tortilla like thing) which was covered in beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. Mine ‘vegetarian’ as I asked for beans and toppings only. I didn’t ask if the beans were cooked in lard(because I don’t care), but a real vegetarian might. Mine was great. I threw on some avocado/habanero salsa as a topper. My sister got the fish tacos and liked hers a lot too. We also got a side of guac which was also good. Service was crazy fast too. Their prices are good and they’ve got a super cheap happy hour – tacos, nachos and quesadillas for around $ 2. Try it yourself.

Nostalgia can screw with your palate sometimes. I used to worship this place like a taco god back when it first opened and I lived in the Brooklyn neighborhood. I can’t really say if its just that other places have arised to the occasion to rival this place, or if the quality at San Felipe has dropped, but it’s not as impressive any longer. It’s quite good though.

Someone once told me that I would miss good Mexican food when I moved to Portland. WRONG. There are some great Mexican joints around town, but none have given me quality, local Mexican style cuisine better than San Felipe Taqueria(which happens to be conveniently located about 50 steps from home). The fish tacos were great. The veggie tacos looked great. The prices were reasonable. The staff includes the owner and her family. The food is inspired by the owner’s family recipes, which is great because she is actually from San Felipe, Mexico. Great food, good prices. Good by my book.

The fish tacos are alright but just not enough to pay almost $ 4 for one let alone $ 11 for a combo plate. They’re heavily battered & the only thing that has flavor is the special sauce. The combo plate includes rice & beans along with chips & salsa. The rice was dry & it looked a day old. The beans were bland & the chips were stale. The vegetarian burrito… well, just don’t bother. It’s boring & I’m bored writing about it. Pretty sure the $ 1 tacos happy hour no longer exists. If it does then that’s the only time one should eat here.
