Best dive bar in Portland. Jello shots? Yes please. Red dogs from the microwave? HELLZ yeah. Jukebox. Coors Banquet. Friendly atmosphere. One minor drawback: it retains the slightest of smoke stench, presumably from the bygone days of inside smoke allowance. Still 5 stars.

Perfect place to end your night! Inexpensive and relaxing. They were also open during a snow storm. Great location, walking distance to the Residence Inn.

Tiny bar where you can rub elbows with friendly locals over a cheap beer or three. Nice service and a relaxed atmosphere. I’d venture to guess this would be a favorite of fathers, grandfathers and drunk uncles(not the scary kind!) anywhere.

This place was on point. Cheap drinks, cool bartenders, and enough weird people to talk to until closing time — everything I look for in a bar.

Sangy’s is my favorite bar in Portland. The drinks are cheap and super strong. Seriously, you get a glass of whisky with a splash of ginger ale. It’s insane. There are different drink specials for every day of the week, and the bartender, Andrea, is the best. She always gives me dollars to play her requests on the jukebox. Overall– best dive in the whole damn city.

I loved this place! What a great dive bar! Randomly strolled in here while waiting out a rain storm before a concert at ferry terminal. Two girls from Boston walk in, all regular patrons turn around and give us the«who the hell are you» looks before turning around and continuing to imbibe. The bartender was quite nice to us. In addition to the standard Bud Light, Coors, Miller, they also paid homage to Maine breweries with Geary’s and Shipyard. Interestingly, if you are up for it — jello shots are $ 1.50 a piece. The juke box was playing good ol’ rock and roll(lots of Johnny Cash and southern rock). If you are hungry there is an extremely limited food menu — though everything comes with chips(they proudly advertise that fact). Egg rolls, hot pockets, and corn dogs are the available fare. Did not eat while we were there.

After a great dinner at Andy’s, at closing time, the bartender(who shall remain nameless, largely because she did not favor us with her name) recommended that we head over to Sangillo’s, her favorite dive bar in Old Port. Let me tell you friends, this place did not disappoint. Being in Portland for our anniversary, we had nowhere to go, all day to get there, and plenty to keep us busy, so drinks were the order of the day. Over a game of yahtzee at the table next to the jukebox, we drank $ 3.50 Shipyard Exports and the proprietress interrupted us politely to offer us free jello shots! Nobody got P.O.‘d when I played«One Bourbon, One Shot, One Beer» on the jukebox, and I got to listen to two guys argue about the merits of playing prog-rock at a bar. All around I say we win.

As long as you remember that Sangillo’s is classified on Unilocal as a DIVEBAR, you’ll be a-okay. Awesome«I couldn’t care less what you think» staff and jello shots… Heavy heavy pours on the drinks and some great people watching.
