Today I took the time to stop in at Sarah’s On Main. One of the things I like about going there is that it feels like home. It’s Portland’s breakfast version of Cheer’s «where everyone knows your name». For me going out for breakfast is a special occasion. I want something different. For my Dad going out to breakfast is eating something traditional like a western omelet or two scrambled eggs toast bacon and homefries. Or my son always gets French Toast with fruit. But for me I want something I will not take the time to make at home. Sarah’s is the kind of place that will provide the traditionalist and the adventurous a awesome breakfast. Today’s breakfast was amazing. Fresh mango, kiwi salsa and poached eggs with chicken sausage. I just love Sarah’s creativity.

Unbelievably incredible Sunday brunch at a very reasonable price. Home fries are the best and the taste of any menu item with hollandaise sauce is nothing short of amazing. Parking is absolutely impossible and the inside of this place feels like you’re sitting in a neighbor’s dumpy kitchen, but when food is the top priority this is the place to go. Try it, you will no doubt also give it 5 stars, but only for the food.

Best breakfast/brunch on either side of the river. From the Pancakes and French Toast to Sarah’s omelettes this places always amazes me. you never have to wait for your coffee to be refilled. if you don’t order the home fry’s you have made a huge mistake. The lunch specials change up daily and never disappoint and the soups are all fantastic.

Delicious and affordable! Sarah’s has the charm and feel one would expect to find at a local diner. It is a small location so expect a cozy experience.

This place really is a little hole in the wall. The hostess was friendly enough to know customers by first name. I got that we have regulars, family vibe. I order the pancakes and the egg sandwich with avocados and garlicky spinach. Yes, that was food enough for more than 1 person, but it was my birthday so whatever. The food was good just like I would make it at home. The waitress checked in on me occasionally as I ate and read and kept to myself. It’s a nice little spot to grab breakfast with the friends and family.

Burp! This place deserves 6 stars, not 5. Food is incredible: delicious, large portions. Wait staff is terrific, always in a good mood and food is out to you quickly. You might have to wait to get a seat, but it is totally worth it.

This place is amazing! A great local spot with plenty of homemade choices for breakfast or brunch. Everything is prepared in the spot and has a lot of flavor. It’s a smaller place, so sometimes seating is tough but it’s worth threat every time. The service is always great too! Ask for Nella-she always takes great care if everyone and is super sweet. The atmosphere is always so happy! Such a great place to come and a good business to support!

Love this place. My boyfriend and I come for breakfast about once a week and it’s great. The food is delicious, and Sarah and the rest of staff are extremely friendly. Among my favorites are the omelettes, home fries, and ever-changing specials! It’s a fairly small space so be prepared for a tight squeeze if it’s busy. We like to sit at the counter and chat with other locals. It gives Sarah’s a lovely community vibe and keeps us happily coming back for more!

My wife and I came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place was very busy. It took a few minutes for our food to come out. She had the French toast and I had the eggs Benedict. Both along with the home fries were very good.

Sarah’s on main is a small, cute local place. My husband and I tried it because of the reviews on Unilocal and I am glad that we did! This restaurant is very easy to miss if you are not looking for it, because the restaurant is small, and there is not really a parking lot. Just a very small one in back(4 spots!) which is probably mostly where the employees park. However, the restaurant is on a street corner, so there is parking on Main street, as well as the side street. The prices here are very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you receive. My hubby had an omelette which included toast and home fries, and I had 2 eggs w/sausage which also included home fries and toast. They had a good amount of bread choices as well.(White, wheat, sourdough, english muffin, and cinnamon raisin) Their home fries are amazing! First time ever I did not use ketchup on my home fries. They had a little kick to them too — which we both loved! The service is friendly, and you can tell this place gets a lot of regulars and even Sarah herself recognizes and will make small talk w/as they enter or leave the restaurant. We will be back for sure!

Having grown up in Portland I’ve always been left with a desire for better local eateries. I always find myself driving on over the bridge to grab a bite. A somehow happened upon this place and suggested that we give it a try one Sunday afternoon with a to-go order. We had no idea that Sunday’s are breakfast only and had planned on ordering lunch. The staff were so helpful over the phone, offering options for lunch that they could prepare despite the normal Sunday breakfast only policy. A and I loved our sandwiches and vowed to try their breakfast and did so a couple of weeks later. We thoroughly enjoyed both the breakfast and lunch meals we had ordered and found ourselves very pleased with the staff and service. I have to say that I’ve finally found a spot in town that I trust and enjoy!!!

Had a great breakfast here, after stumbling on it totally by chance! We had accidentally crossed the Arrigoni bridge(after missing the restaurant we actually wanted to go to) and of course turned to Unilocal for help… and I’m glad we did. I really liked the casual, homey feel to this restaurant, even down to the mugs with funny quotes on them. Even better: very friendly service and delicious food. I had the farmer’s market omelette and the veggies were nicely charred and super fresh tasting. The home fries were a highlight too — they were so well seasoned(I just wish there had been more of them!) The prices were also more reasonable than most brunch places around the area. Nothing better than an unexpected find — check it out!

Highly recommended. Only a 6 min drive from Wesleyan U. Excellent egg sandwich with avocado and fresh lightly cooked spinach. Home made corned beef hash was delicious. Waffles were light and a little on the sweet side. Service very friendly. Prices very reasonable. We will be back!

Always looking for new breakfast places, I typed«breakfast» into Unilocal this morning and Sarah’s on Main popped up. Located just over the bridge in Portland, we decided to give it a try. This place is easy to miss as it is in what looks like a house, other than the small sign out front. Inside it is very small… maybe 6 tables, and some seating at the counter. We only had to wait a few minutes for a table, as one party was leaving as we arrived. There is a bench in the entryway, but if more than a few people were waiting I’m assuming they’d have to form a line outside. The staff was very pleasant, we were greeted right away and told it would only be a few minutes for a table. That was appreciated as we have been to a lot of breakfast spots where the servers walk by several times without acknowledging you. They are very friendly here, and most customers seemed to be either friends or regulars. We got a coffee and a water and some menus within a couple minutes of being seated. That was pretty much it for the beverages though. They came by once to top off my husband’s coffee, but the server only put a splash in then walked away. It was still nearly half empty. They never offered me a refill on my water, even though I finished it midway through the meal. Even though it’s a small place, the layout doesn’t flow well… we were in a corner with two tables and the only time a server came over was to take orders or deliver food, otherwise you couldn’t easily get anyone’s attention. Looking at the menu, I immediately honed in on the maple cream cheese and bacon stuffed french toast and the homemade corned beef hash. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with either. I took a bit of the French toast and was struck with the harsh flavor of straight cream cheese. I like cream cheese, but generally when you stuff it in french toast, it is whipped and sweetened and light… this was heavy and not sweet, just that distinct cream cheese flavor. There were full strips of bacon inside. Half were burnt and half were bordering on raw. I picked those out and scraped out the cream cheese. The plain french toast I was left with was fine. The corned beef hash had chunks of corned beef that were far too large. I appreciate the use of fresh meat, but it should be shredded or cut into bite size pieces. The piece on top had a huge chunk of fat and I really wish they had noticed that and cut it off, as it was truly unappetizing. Sarah, the owner, cooked our food, so as the owner, I would think you’d take extra care in looking at the food before you put it ip for the servers to pick up. The potatoes were stark white and unseasoned. I had asked for it well done/extra crispy, and don’t feel I got that other than one or two pieces that were a little crispy. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict(semi classic Benedict). It was on brioche toast which was odd especially since the little egg looked so lost on the big piece of bread. There was not nearly enough hollandaise given the size of the bread. It also said all eggs Benedict came with home fries and toast. He got home fries but no toast. Not that he needed it with the big chunks of bread under the egg, but don’t write it on the menu if you aren’t going to serve it. The home fries were my favorite part. They were very crispy — probably deep fried. I like my potatoes crispy so they were perfect for me. My true test of how I felt about the restaurant was whether the server would question if there were any problems, since I had dissected my french toast, left a giant pile of cream cheese on the side of the plate, along with a pile of uncooked bacon. I also barely touched the corned beef hash. She simply asked if she could take the plates, walked away and scraped it all in the trash. I wasn’t looking for anything other than someone to care enough to ask if we weren’t happy with the food… but I didn’t get that, and that’s one of the reasons I probably wouldn’t go back. One reviewer said that Sarah’s is better than O’Rourke’s, and in my opinion that is not true. It may be cheaper, and they may have interesting sounding items on the menu, but the execution and food quality is nowhere near O’Rourke’s. I think maybe if you’re friends with the employees, it may feel homey and nice, but for me, there are other places I’d rather go for a tasty breakfast and more attentive service.

This location is perfect for a small breakfast/brunch spot. I’m hoping that this one stays! Over the last couple of years, it has changed hands 3 times. The restaurant takes credit cards, which is a big thing for me. I never carry cash. Previously, we had to hit an ATM, before dining here. An adorable couple walking out of the restaurant, recommended the blueberry waffles. While very tempting, I opted for a spicy version of Eggs Benedict. It came with a healthy portion of home fries. The home fries were not fried, so I was able to share them with my son. He was a huge fan, as was I. My husband ordered the Hash and Eggs. This is one of our favorite breakfast foods. Unfortunately, the ratio of meat to potatoes was rather heavy on the potato. Would love to see more of that tasty hash and less of the home fries. We also tried a short stack… well worth the extra carbs! Prices were reasonable and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely be visiting again!
