Shannon Sansoterra – Think Real Estate

I called Shannon to see if she could make an offer on a multi family for me this evening, and instead of saying yes or no up front-​she asks a series of questions that I feel were answered in a way to show that I’m not someone that hasn’t jumped through hoops to make sure that my offer is solid and serious. Instead, she asks a lot of personal and detailed questions, and at the end tells me her personal issues would not let her make an offer for me tonight.
Very unprofessional and rude… just tell me you have other obligations upfront.

We sought a realtor to help us and our daughter, a first-​time buyer. Shannon exceeded our expectations on all accounts. She is very personable, so my daughter liked her from the start. She knows her market and steered us to exactly the property we wanted. Shannon is remarkably accessible and responsive; she is thorough and follows through on all of the details, of which there are many. She advocated for us with our lender and negotiated some repairs for us with the seller’s agent. You can’t go wrong with Shannon Sansoterra.

They say that buying a house is one of the most stressful experiences a person can go through. Well, «they» were right. But having Shannon by your side, as an amazingly competent and incredibly comforting guide, can help you get through it. I would have quit at the start if it weren’t for her.
This was my first home purchase and I didn’t really know what I was getting into, but I knew I was in good hands with Shannon because it was obvious that she really DID know what she was doing.
Shannon was able to explain the process to me and never made me feel stupid with all the questions I had. Or for crying, when the stress got high.
She had a good understanding of what I was looking for, but was also able to open my eyes to new possibilities. She has a solid understanding of the portland market and all the wonderful neighborhoods. She is honest and straightforward, and incredibly responsive. Shannon isn’t looking to help you buy the house that will get her the biggest commission; she’s looking to help you buy the house that is perfect for you.
My transaction was a challenging one, with a lot of back and forths, bumps in the road, and a lengthy repair addendum (thank goodness she knows a lot of great professionals to give bids and get work done), and a few surprises along the way, but Shannon helped it along as smoothly as I could have hoped do.
If you’re buying or selling a house, you can’t go wrong with Ms. Sansoterra! She’s a gem. And she’s funny as hell, too.

Shannon is a wonderful and fun person to call your real estate agent. She is very flexible, funny, and friendly with almost any kind of person. I say this from personal experience, as Shannon was not only my realtor, but my friend. She is amazing with older parents, difficult children, odd personalities, you name it.
She has a way of making a day looking at crappy houses fun. After finding an adorable home in my price range (which was no small task), we found that there were many annoying and detailed legal snafus concerning a buried oil tank. It was a real pain in the wazoo. Both Shannon’s attention to detail and her personal conviction helped to make the deal close in a way that made everyone happy.
Shannon puts the real back in real-​tor, there — I’ve been wanting to say that all along. Call her. You won’t regret it!

Shannon was outstanding in helping us both buy our new house and sell our condo. She walked us through every step, and would explain everything to us, checking in with us frequently to make sure we understood and were comfortable along the way. And what a delightful person to boot! Highly recommended.

We have worked with a number of realtors and can’t say enough about Shannon. Aside from being easy going, she is also very well educated in real estate. We had a house to sell that had a number of requirements that needed to be met before the sale would go through. Shannon not only hired and managed the different contractors required for the work but she went over to meet them at the property, which was above and beyond anything we’d experienced in the past.
After that sale, we had a piece of land for sale from a lot that we were dividing. We quickly had an offer but after months of red tape with the city and a very small revision to the property line, our buyer backed out. Shannon had spent months communicating with the prospective buyer and also assisted us with the city. When the land went back on the market she quickly sold it and negotiated well with the buyer on our behalf explaining all the costs we had incurred dividing the land making the buyer agreeable to our asking price.
Whenever anyone mentions buying or selling, I quickly suggest Shannon. She’s fun, great at her job and genuinely likable.

Shannon represented us both in the selling of our old home and the purchase of our new one. As others have noted she is very responsive and, high accomplished in the demands of the profession. She is also quite meticulous in ways that make a real difference to her clients. I.e. she has a keen eye for the details that make a difference from the points of view of both buyer and seller.
She had several crucial suggestions for us as sellers to maximize the appeal of the property. At the other end she orchestrated all the multiple proceedings which go into a house purchase with minimum of inconvenience to us. She was available to answer questions at just about any time of day on any day. She was always solicitous in an entirely unobtrusive way — and she is indeed willing to lend a hand herself to any cleanup related chores one may have.
Our house (a condo) sold almost instantly and a considerable amount of the credit for this goes to Shannon for the guidance she gave us in preparing the property for sale. And the purchase of the new one was a seamless exercise in real estate execution.
Lastly but not least, there is her personable disposition to take into account. She is most ingenuous and is quite devoid of all the glib foibles that so often inhabit the real estate business. This is a non-​trivial quality when iterated over the multiple interactions involved in selling or buying a house. I would (and actually have!) recommend her to a friend in an instant.

If you are anything by me, the process of buying a house is steeped in mystery and fear, boring and «something my parents do». I grudgingly came to the realization that it was time to buy something and called Shannon (who in the spirit of disclosure is an old friend). So she put on her realtor cap for me and we got to work.
From the first meeting we had, she made the home buying process fun and accessible. Shannon is the dream combination of procedural saavy with a love of her field.
She has a great sense both my house aesthetic and what I was looking for in a neighborhood. It helps that she truly loves Portland and knows every neighborhood like the back of her hand. And she is fun to be around, which made the whole thing a truly enjoyable process.
After a few months of looking I found my dream house in the SE Clinton area. When we hit the inevitable snag was when I really saw what Shannon was made of as a realtor. There was a moment where, due to a poorly executed appraisal, the whole thing almost fell through. Shannon was tireless both in navigating around the snag and talking me through the resulting breakdown. She put in many, many hours and we found a way to make it work.
And here I sit, a year later, living in a beautiful old house in an area that I love and I have Shannon Sansoterra to thank for it.

Shannon was a GODSEND. We were in a tough spot because we had to move out of state before the house sold so were forced to manage it long distance. Our realtor during this time told us we were getting a lot of walk-​thrus, so we couldn’t figure out why, in the course of six months, we had no offer. A surprise visit clued us in.
The price on the flier was wrong, the house itself was dusty, and the state of the yard was embarrassing! We let her go immediately and found Shannon through a friend’s recommendation.
What a difference a realtor makes!!!
She was very communicative which was of course necessary for us. And she gave us honest feedback — the good and the bad. We were grateful for ANY news, including the criticisms because at least we could do something about it!
More than anything, I was impressed by her work ethic. Within a day, Shannon had arranged for someone to shape up the yard. However, he couldn’t come out for a few days; so she rolled up her sleeves and did some maintenance herself! Same goes for the interior of the house. She obviously takes pride in being hands-​on and making sure the space she shows is at its very best.
If you take away nothing else from this review, the fact of the matter is that our house sat on the market for 6 months with no offers until Shannon came on the job. She worked her tush off and sealed the deal in six WEEKS. We can’t recommend her enough!!!
