Soccer Plex

Yes, as others have mentioned the facility isn’t the greatest looking or smelling, but when I need to get my soccer on this is the place I go. There’s a field and people ready to play, so I can’t complain. Staff is helpful enough, hours open are good enough, at least for me and my schedule. No, it’s not pristine but for me, they serve a good purpose.

What a dump this place is! Smells funky… Poorly designed, dirty and the staff couldn’t be more inefficient. The roof is leaking and there’s no staff to be found when I have a question or want a snack.

Game times change last-​minute and you’re left scrambling to get subs for everyone who can’t make it. Schedules are also put up last-​minute. The cost for teams is exorbitant (at min. $ 60 per person + $ 20 card). Sherwood Field House is far away but almost worth the change considering they allow subs to play free and without cards, running about $ 40 p/​p total. Just throwing that out there.
Pro’s — serves beer, prices of food are decent, has food, ceilings on the field are high.
Con’s — nobody is ever at the counter to serve you beer or food, disorganized, very expensive, nickel-​and-​dimes everyone for anything they can. Nobody is ever available to provide ice packs for injuries etc.
If they’re going to charge up the ass for players and teams, they need to improve their services, organization, and staffing.

This place is so DISORGANIZED, they are not on point with their facility and players.
Schedules don’t go up till 1 or 2 days before your match, How does that give me enough time to prepare or to get any subs if we need some?. It keeps getting worst as time goes on, I enjoy playing here the turf itself got a few repairs. The roof also did and the nets. There were water leaks some parts of the nets were torn. Come in through the front and want to get a member card and NO ONE there at the reception. They’re all over the place. Its seem they are neglecting the Leagues and im afraid we might be looking in to finding another location :-(

But despite all that, this place is great to come play in (When schedules are posted that is) Very decent space for long passes and overthrows. Its very decent inside its ok, they’re trying to get the place up and running to end up being nice. They are trying.
Just they are behind on taking time to accommodate teams and leagues.

Beware these guys WILL change the times of your games and not tell you. Our last game in the most recent season got moved up from 10:50 to 8:30 and there is no evidence that they told anyone on our team. Neither our manager nor anyone from Soccerplex can produce an email saying our game got moved. Apparently all they did was update the web site on the afternoon of the games. Players from every team I spoke with that night showed up at the wrong time. One manager from another team said he did get a call asking if his team wanted to change times and he said no, it was too late to get a hold of everyone. But guess what, they changed it anyway.
Basically they screwed our whole team out of a game and by extension ¹⁄₈ of our already steep league fees. Then they had a staff member email me and lie about when the time changed, saying they put out the new times a week early. When I asked for a copy of the email they sent to our manager about the time change they stopped replying.
Simply put, they are not professional and have no issue depriving you of a game if it suits them.

Solid indoor center. They have one large field for the game itself and a smaller warm-​up field. Unfortunately, the warm-​up field is often taken by small groups playing pick-​up games so you don’t actually get to use it to warm up. The refs are better than I’ve found at a few other places around Portland. Everything else is pretty typical.
If your significant other wants to come watch you play, they serve beer at the snack bar.

Soccerplex is by far the best indoor facility in Portland but the administration has grown very negligent towards the adult sessions. The fees have increased while playing less games in a session and constantly change our Saturday schedule to Sunday. Often times they’ll squeeze in double headers as well. A lot of the teams have been playing here for 7 years yet soccerplex continues to neglect the adult leagues. It’s frustrating having to pay $ 65-​$ 75 per head for a 8 weeks session when the staff cant seem to put together a regular Saturday schedule as we are in the Saturday league. A lot of the teams have relocated to other locations and we’ll soon be considering doing the same if the disregard of our league continues.

I have played indoor soccer for several years now and I will say that at least the field is decent in comparison to some places.
Theres bleachers to sit on, even a home/​away area for the teams which is nice. Some places you don’t even get that.
Best part? Bar area… couple TVs. Hooray! Just what you want to do after a soccer game.
Aparently you can have birthday parties there too. Hmm.

The indoor soccer classes for kids is a great program during the cold and rainy winters in Portland. The coaches are energetic and do well with kids. My daughter is in the 3 – 4 year old class and it’s sometimes painfully entertaining watching the coach essentially try to heard a litter of cats. But he manages, with a smile on his face the whole time and with nothing but positive words.
Often times I’ve noticed the drills are way to complicated for age group, and as a result, mass chaos ensues. This is a class where parents don’t need to participate, but get to watch instead, which is hard to do at times when your kid isn’t paying attention. I appreciate the enthusiasm the coach has for soccer and see it rubbing off on my daughter.

Its the best indoor indoor soccer in the area in my opinion. Open space and great warm up areas, showers if you need them also. Most people don’t know about all the other stuff Soccerplex has next door.
So people complain about how hard it is to find teams and what not, which is really only our own laziness, I should know. I like that is is simple once you take the time to get on the field. The schedules are not set up for people trying to nickle and dime their schedules. If you sign up for a league there is a day and a range of times for that session. Thursday nights men’s league was 550pm to 1050pm for example. But you might not find out your exact schedule till a few days before the session starts, this is because teams don’t submit their rosters promptly and often are short people. Its bad for business to set up a schedule that has forfeits in it, so they are forced to wait until teams fill up a bit to really know what the session will look like.
The more you are there the more people you get to know, I have a lot of soccer friends now and I love to play even more. Soccerplex was one of the fastest ways for me to meet new people when I moved to Oregon. Having soccer as a similar interest was a huge bonus also.
Lastly, I am really happy Soccerplex got the MyReplyLive stuff set up. While it might seem expensive, its way worth it to catch that once in a lifetime move or awesome goal. I hope it gets expanded one day to get more angles.
I have played in four venues in the area, this one is the best for people and play, plus there is always parking and its soccer all the time. Go check it out, maybe you will run into me.

Getting really frustrated at the lack of organization when it comes to putting together leagues. I am still waiting on the schedule for a session that is supposed in two days! How does that give me enough lead time to inform my team, gather subs, and confirm that I have players lined up for the rest of the session when we don’t even know when the games are?! Additionally withe each of the leagues going to the matrix system begins to wear on my coed rec team to have to play former D1 players on other teams. So much for going out and kicking the ball around.

I took my 2 year old to soccer class here — yest a LivingSocial deal, the teacher was great. But the general organization of the facility was lacking and confusing. Do you check in or not — the sign says yes but there is no one to check you in?
Classes for 2 year olds should not last 45 minutes — 20 minutes is long enough. We stayed the full amount the first class after that we only stayed half the time.

I’ve enjoyed playing games here, but the prior reviews are right, it’s expensive to play indoor soccer. That is true across the board though, there is no place that is significantly cheaper to play than any other. Soccerplex is on the slightly higher end though, which may sway some people’s decision to field a team there.
I also tried to contact Soccerplex about team openings but you’re referred to their online wanted postings and I don’t find that to be helpful. Older posts need to be removed so it’s not so cluttered, and teams that have filled a position need to take down their postings for players. Otherwise you send out 20 feelers for a team and get nothing back.
I like the physical space of the area, it’s open and not as cold in the winter as some other places I play.

A fun place to play, with mostly good refs, but it tends to get very cold in the winter and stifling in the summer. Some ventilation would be good, guys!
