I don’t want to say that Staley Enterprises is the worst you can ever rent from, but they do have a lot of things to fix. They do not come by the property often, or really bug you which is nice. However the insulation within the home was horrible, the house was always cold and heating the place was extremely expensive due to the heat getting sucked right out the windows. Also there was mold that formed in the bathroom and bedrooms on a regular basis that I was told I need to scrub down and scrub out on a regular basis in order to avoid any problems with the home as well as mold sickness. I was told that in the bathroom with the moister from the shower and there being no fan I needed to monitor the walls. And in the bedrooms, do to the poor insulation around the windows mold would form on walls wherever I put my bed to do the moister sinking into the mattress, so I needed to be mindful of that and I would be charged for restoring the room and repainting when that happened after I moved out. I had to fight with them to get the cost reduced and I ended up only having to pay ¼ of the cost to «take care» of the mold and repaint. When Tina expresses these issues she of bullies you and when you bring up issues, she tends to forget them quiet quickly. Being the owners mother there is nothing you can do as far as reporting her. Kelly however is fairly nice. The mold and the condition of the insulation and having to pay for mold damage are the ONLY issues I had with renting from them. I would inspect the house thoroughly before moving in and make sure they are up to code as far as the mold and insulation goes. Most of the time they scrub off the mold from the house and simply paint over it, which is does ever, under any circumstances remove mold and that’s the only way they know how to take care of it. And also make sure you are prepared to pay for mold damage that will reoccur within the house after you have been there over the winter.

If you have any other choices, don’t rent from Staley Enterprises. Tina and Kelley, the property managers, are each nasty and vile in their own way(although Tina definitely takes the cake.) They are prejudiced towards any renters who are not a wealthy, white, straight, couple and they are insulting and rude on a regular basis. They keep their properties barely functioning and then try to blame renters when any of their cheap hard ware goes wrong. I don’t even think the house we rented was up to legal standards for wiring and insulation. I have NEVER had a problem with landlords before moving into a Staley property. I know the rental market in Portland can be tough, but keep looking if you can!

We rented a house from this company awhile back. Overall the experience was ok. Kelley the office manager was always nice. Tina, on the other hand… well, let’s just say… not the nicest lady on the planet. The properties shown to us where kept below rental industry standards.

I’ve been on both sides of property management: landlord and renter. Believe it or not, being a landlord sucks a helluva lot worse. It’s no wonder so many of them are prone to nastiness. Staley Enterprises is not prone to any such nastiness. They have great properties, which are primarily well restored single family homes. They also have Kelly in the front office, who is absolutely wonderful to work with. We had a few issues along the way, including a particularly rough patch at the end, and all were handled with grace. My only beef? The house we rented was about as energy efficient as a cardboard box. The windows were single pane jobs, no storms, and very few screens were still intact. Our(electric) heating bill caused me monthly trauma between October and May. I know that investments like that may not make sense for a property owner, but c’mon. If you’re a slacker who hates rules, Staley’s high standards aren’t for you. If you don’t mind a little structure and are a responsible adult, you should fit in just fine here.
