I dropped by twice during posted open hours. Closed both times. Texted to ask when they were open. No response.

Michael is the kindest, most generous and entertaining encyclopedia you could ever know. He will figure out your palate and what wines get you excited and find out everything you could ever want to know about the producer, region, grape, etc. He has joy in his work and it’s obvious — and he loves to share that joy with his customers! The focus of Storyteller is placed squarely on the wines and those who produce them, it’s clear that this is what Michael values most, in addition to providing a good deal to his customers.

I agree with a couple others here, Michael REALLY knows his wines and the store is devoid of pretension. It’s all about the wine here. Great selection, extremely knowledgeable shop owner and fair prices. Friday evening wine tastings to introduce you to wines you need to know and have probably not heard of before. I love this place and highly recommend it.

Great wine store, lots of knowledge and extremely helpful. Nope, don’t go here for the ambience, a comfortable seat or a view, that is not what this place is about. It is about the product. The products are wine and knowledge, both of which are outstanding. I appreciate the lack of pretentiousness and the closeness the owner has with the wineries and the industry.

Sometimes a store can try too hard to make me love their place. Sometimes, a place like Storyteller, doesn’t try hard enough. I stopped in for a free Friday night tasting, which is one of the two redeeming qualities of this place. I guess they do free tastings every Friday night, so free wine bumped this review up half a star! The people were also very nice, so that was the other half star bump, otherwise this would be a two star review. I felt like I was in a stock room. The door in feels like a back door, and you walk in to a fluorescent lit room with strange green linoleum. No clear area to stand or sit, a couple couches and benches in a back room area that has books and things strewn about. I think it was also an office? Cases of wine stacked all over the place. Very strange ambience, I felt out of place. If you really want to pay wine shop prices, there are many other places to check out before Storyteller.

Best place to learn about local wines. Apparently 2008 is where it’s at.

Storyteller Wine Company is not your typical wine shop. It has a neighborhood feel and Michael Alberty, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable about wine in every aspect. He knows many of the wine makers in the area and has a story to share about his encounters with his own wine exploration. Hence the name, «Storyteller» and Michael is incredibly gifted in wine prose. He offers many local wines from small producers in addition to the better known wineries. But he also has an eclectic array of wines from all regions of the world, which vary each time we visit his store. It’s as though you are part of his story, trying new wines and listening to him talk about how the wine was made or funny quip about a winery changing hands; winery gossip, if you will. He’s a walking wine encyclopedia, but completely down to earth, non-pretentious. Anyone would benefit from going down to his store to share a few wine tales. Great, unusual selection, reasonable price and incredible welcoming local feel. Selection is small and changes regularly. To learn about tastings/talks, sign up on the website for weekly emails. They are not open everyday, but if you email, they will kindly open the doors for you by appointment.
