Sun’s Market is my homeboy. Always there when I need it. Of course, this place only gets 3 stars because of its proximity to my house. I know that doesn’t really seem fair or objective, but Sun’s good peeps. This spot is owned and operated by a very nice asian couple and their son. The mother doesn’t talk much, but a trip or 2 has definitely taken twice as long because I’m shooting the shit with«the son» behind the counter. I should know his name by now, but I don’t because I’m terrible with that stuff. They have very bodega-y things in here, though they seem to specialize in energy drinks and alcohol, as almost every cooler in here is chock-full of the stuffs. They also have a nice assortment of things normally only found at small town fairs in the display case by the check out. But they have eggs and butter at Safeway prices and a decent amount of ice cream choices for the occasional late-night sweet tooth binge. Add in the small medicine section and it has all the convenience store goodies I require. You’ll just have to ignore the bars on the windows and those wonderful, hilarious signs on the front door: «No more than 2 kids(students) allowed at a time» and, «No sunglasses, no hats». They even each come with a hand-drawn example! I love it.(In case you’re wondering, there’s a K-8 school a block down the street). Really, this is just another bodega right off 82nd. Nothing special. But I prefer supporting my locally-owned bodega over giving my money to a 7 – 11, etc.
