My experience was nothing but smooth — had two bathroom floors installed with Moduleo — it’s super inexpensive and looks great. The installers did an incredible job and Emily helped me put together some great designs — she’s super helpful and friendly. I also had my garage floor done and wrote another great review for Alternative Surfaces. Overall, there are loads of different styles to fit any budget and the staff is great. Look forward to working with them again.

I have a little bit of HGTVitis. I binge watch property brothers and fixer upper. I love the way the reveals always turn out. But in reality choosing the task of choosing Finishes is very daunting. That’s where Anika comes in, she made the choice easy. She saw my vision and she helped me choose the right look to suit my budget and my lifestyle. Thank you Anika.

My mother has been looking to re-​design her kitchen for quite sometime but for some reason never got to it. My co-​worker told me about Surface the other day, saying that he had a great experience with them, so I told her and we finally got the chance to go in the other day. As soon as you walk in you’re captivated by the show room. It’s very well designed, simple, and gorgeous. Immediately after walking in we were greeted by an employee there, Anika. Anika was very pleasant, courteous, and professional. After speaking with my mother for a bit she was able to design a wonderful kitchen for her. My mother absolutely loved it and now she’s finally going to have the kitchen she’s always wanted. If you’re looking for great customer service and great design I highly suggest you check them out.

As a designer myself, I can say that this is the place to go in Portland. Not only is the customer service superb but the designs are beautiful and the quality is fantastic. The cute Asian girl is amazing and really knows her stuff! I not only recommend Surface for anyone who needs to have tile, hardwood or carpeting done but they also offer installation on all surfaces. This is a tasteful and well run gallery and I give two thumbs up!

Ugh, what is this place? Is this Los Angeles? I can’t believe the attitude from the girl all dressed in black on the floor. She made it clear the last thing she wanted to do was help me. She said I could find her in her office if I needed help. My designer told me to go here to pick out counters, flooring and tile for the house we are building. Forget that!

We have used Surface for two separate projects– our kitchen/​bath remodel and for an ADU. Each time, the staff was great at helping us find creative products within out budget. We got tile, countertops and flooring from them. The choices for the marmoleum we used was crazy! They had so many options and always allowed us to check out samples to bring them home. The new location is so much better– parking and more light filled space to atually see the sample choices.

I wanted to love this place and even really liked the person I tried to work with. I was told I would have an estimate for countertops, sink and tile that day or the next for sure. I went back in the next day at end of day and he wasn’t in, so another sales person checked notes and he hadn’t even written down the tile we picked out let alone done anything with the estimate. Several days later I finally got an estimate and it was missing some key things we had talked about, after a week, he texted me and asked if I had gotten his revised estimate which I hadn’t. I went to Milan, they don’t do «everything» but they will make sure you get some good people to work with in whatever trade/​surface you need!

The showroom is nice and their products are good but the service is not great. The carpet was not ordered for our stairs, and, assuming it’s delivered on time, it will be two weeks that we’ve had bare stairs (although I was told it would be «days») while the rest of the room has been complete. While I don’t quite understand the oversight, it’s more the lack of communication or accountability on the part of the sales rep that bothers me, coupled with the fact that I have to follow up to get any information. Additionally, they are quick to call you repeatedly when you owe but trying to get a credit requires more follow-​up than it should. Our contractors suggested using them but I will look elsewhere in the future.

Surface is a great place to do business with! What made it an amazing experience is Aaron Randal. That man is a genius and helped us so much with choices of tile whether it be for the floor, backslashes, countertops, showers, you name it. He helped us match the whole house up. Since we were building a brand new home we needed help with selection of everything. Also, the subcontractors that surface uses to install the tile were awesome! Sardonynx tile is there name, i think. They are the best, they are very meticulous with the work they do. Our house is complete now, and everything is perfect. Ron W– Happy Valley

Horrible. Attempted to have them quote a kitchen and bath remodel, spent over two hours in their shop muddling through details to be blown away by the price tag then being pressured to sign a contract. I then read the poor Unilocal reviews (which I should have done first). I found an independent contractor and he bought the material through a supply house and helped with the design, saved a ton of money not using them.

I can’t believe the reviews I’ve seen here. This place is amazing! Some of the most interesting products I have ever seen. I have had great experience with the people and the products. I’d recommend them to anyone who doesn’t want a «vanilla» interior.

Long story short, horrible communication and scheduling skills result in a horrible mess. To start off with the nice things: the show room is great, the contractors that they use to get the work done are average. Prices are a bit higher but not by much. We ended up going with Surface for our shower remodel because we were told that it would effectively be a hands off job, and that they would take care of everything. Sadly this was not the case, I ended up paying for the privilege of managing them and the project. Even though we had a staff member come out and double check our measurements, not enough product was ordered, surface staff was not communicating with the workers thus I had to inform them as to what the project was. Half way thru the project about half the tile needed to be replaced do to further miss communications between all parties involved. And to top it all off when everything was finally completed the invoice was wrong. In the end, we like our shower, though it was not at all worth the hassle when there are other shops in town.

I have mixed feelings about this place. We did ultimately order all the tile for our bathroom remodel from them because I loved the selection they had and helped us work within our price range.
There are several people who work here who do really want to help you, are knowledgeable about the products, design and even installation. I’ve walked into many tile places and never had anyone ask if I needed help and that actually wasn’t the case here.
Where things went south was after we did order all of our products and the lack of communication between our sales rep and us. We were always having to call to follow up on our orders. The products were not delivered when they were promised to us. Some of this was the manufacturers fault, some of the product delays were Surface’s fault. I really want to love this place because they have great products and some of the people that work there are great, but overall, it was just an ok experience that I expected more from.

Looks like a common theme with the service at Surface. I went in to the store looking specifically for Flor carpet samples as they are a retailer for them. When we entered the store we were greeted and shown where the Flor samples were. That is where the service ended.
Both employees were with clients at the time. We proceeded to pick out samples and lay them out on a table to view. Clearly we were engaged and interested. One of the customers left which then left a sales person free to ask if we needed help. Instead, they went over to the other salesperson and clients and proceeded to complain on how everyone comes in at the same time.
We continued to work through what we wanted and had made a decision but at no time were we approached. We decided to leave and order online or take our business elsewhere. We walked through the store, right by them, still no word, until we got to the front door and we heard a «thank you».
If I were Flor, I would find another retailer.

I was referred to Surface by my real estate agent. The new house that I bought need its floors refinished. I called Surface and they sent over Aaron. He evaluated the floors and said that he’d get back to me in a few days with an estimate. After four weeks and 5 – 6 unreturned phone calls asking for the estimate, I finally heard from him. This was only after my real estate agent called Aaron to complain. When I did hear from Aaron he said that he wanted to come by again and take a second look so he could provide me a good estimate. Wasn’t that the point of the first meeting? Needless to say, I didn’t use Surface. In a nutshell Surface was unprofessional and a waste of my time. From they way I was disregarded you would think it was the boom days of Portland real estate. Let’s see how long this company survives with this kind of service.
