LOVE this store. The owner is so kind and fun to talk with. Stopped in for a claddagh ring for my daughter’s bday. Could hardly drag my husband out he was having such a nice time conversing with the owner. We picked out some Christmas gifts and will be back for those soon. It’s so nice to find a local shop that carries such a wide variety of Irish jewelry and with such great customer service!

Perhaps it isn’t fair to compare shamrocks to bagpipes, but I can’t help but compare The Celtic Corner to The Scottish Country Shop(SCS). Since my father is English and my son loves all things British, I regularly visit all the stores I can find in the greater Portland area that feature wares from the British Isles. After making my usual pre-Christmas visit to SCS for stocking stuffers and holiday gifts, I continued on to try my luck at this store. While SCS is quite spacious and has a broad range of clothing, jewelry, music, clan crests, tartans and an on-site café, in contrast the environment here is quite confining and cluttered. A bit like an overstuffed antique shop. There were two other customers in the store during my visit and we could barely navigate through the space without bumping into each other. This is a one-man operation and the shop keeper was kind and helpful. The store has a mix of housewares, clothing(mainly jokey t-shirts), books, CDs and jewelry, but it just can’t compare to the options available at the other store. I ended up purchasing a few small things after a few other items I expressed interest in(charms based on birth month) were sold out.

My fiancé and I bought some great jewelry here and ordered wedding bands that were custom made in Ireland. We couldn’t be happier… they are gorgeous! We love the owner Noël, he is a delight to talk to… so interesting, knows everything about the products he carries and the history of Ireland. It is so worth the three plus hours we drive to visit this wonderful store. We LOVE the Celtic Corner !!!

Off to the Celtic store for all things Irish. OK, Scottish too. There isn’t anything they don’t have, I don’t think. I decided to express the Scottish side of my roots here and bought a tam. Is that Scottish? Heck, I don’t know. The gentleman in the store is very kind and helpful. Hope the new article is a hit. I’ll let you know. The shop is very small and not much room to move around. But, what space there is, is loaded with stuff. Jewelry, kilts, clothing, hats, Tshirts and the like. I think this is the go to in Portland. So, if you’re Irish or just wishing you were, check it out. I’m sure it would be especially helpful on Mar. 17th :)
