So I had an hour to kill where I was planning on being on the phone and I thought a nice little place to get a snack and a drink would perfectly fit the bill. They said they don’t do food, had no clue about the Unilocal checkin coupon, and were useless. They might have good drinks, but I couldn’t find out.

Okay where to begin… We were looking for a good place to have Happy Hour before dinner and used the ‘Nearby’ feature on Unilocal to see what bars were in our close vicinity, The Guild Public House happened to be on the list. Looking at the profile on Unilocal it had a ‘Check-In Offer’ of one free happy hour food item upon check-in, so we thought we’d give it a try. Upon arriving we noticed that the music was quite loud, especially since there was only 5 people in the bar. We sat down and ordered a cocktail and glass of wine. While trying to redeem the free happy hour check-in offer we were informed by the server that they weren’t even aware of the offer, and that it was probably due to the previous owner and that they wouldn’t honor it. We decided to order the hummus plate regardless and were not impressed. To top it off the glass of wine we were served was in a glass that appeared to have never been cleaned, there was glitter lipstick all over the rim and the entire glass looked filthy. Overall I think if you’re just going to have a beer and you don’t mind loud music this place might be for you. I was going to only give 2 stars, but the server was nice enough to replace the glass of wine and refund our money on the hummus plate as it was apparent we didn’t eat it.

Wonderful place for cocktails with friends. I went with a few of my lady friends on a Saturday evening and we were ABSOLUTELY spoiled by Jim. He mixed up a few tasty specialty drinks for us while we warmed up our dancing legs with some tunes on the jukebox. I love the relaxed vibe I got from this place and it’s in a great location… Oh, and for sports fans, THERE’S A GIANTTV!

Inventive people make me happy. Especially when they are mixing me a cocktail. My girls and I hit up Guild Saturday evening for a pre-dance-our-faces-off drink, and were seriously treated well. The bartender Jim went so far as to create some custom drinks based on our likes/dislikes, and they were ah-ma-zing. He even stayed past his shift to shake and stir our final round. It was a relatively quiet evening, which definitely worked in our favor. It’s a nice ambiance, and the off-the-menu cocktails we also sampled were interesting and tasty. If you are looking for a classic cocktail with a twist in a nice, loungy environment, hit up Guild and ask for Jim=).

The Guild seemed cool but I do agree with the poster who said they need to work on what to do with themselves on busy nights. It wasn’t a very inviting place, just lots of stand-around room and some tables outside. Had to wait long times for drinks and it was confusing who was actually wanting a drink and who was standing around talking. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was exciting. I can see if there was a band playing or something it would be an awesome place to go to. I’ll probably go back.

Went there because of Unilocal on Tap… I completely agree with a previous reviewer: Very friendly service but the portions are very small, in fact we ordered two dishes, one appetizer and one main course and I could not tell which was which when they 1st sat it down. The $ 10 sandwich was tiny!!! It tasted ok, nothing to jump up and down about, I guess when you pay $ 10 for a sandwich, the expectation for me is up there. Also, the selection is very small for a brew pub, I counted 8 beers on tap, where there are other establishments in town have 20 – 25 rotating taps. I hope the owners are reading our reviews and make some changes, because when we were there on a Sat night @ 8pm and there were only 2 other coples there. Word travels fast!

Now I’m giving four stars because either our server made a mistake, or realized he shouldn’t jipp people for a legit offer of their own place. Of which I speak, the elusive check-in offer. Check-in and get one free happy hour item. AWESOME! We were there for the Canned Beer Festival — which admittedly was so much fun. At one point, we realized we were hungry but did not want the food they had outside so I, being the avid Unilocal-er, looked for a happy hour nearby. And Guild popped up. So in we go. We sit down, order ourselves a tasty beer each. We peruse the HH menu and select some items & I check-in on my Unilocal app. What’s this? A free HH item, great! Only, the bartender says it’s not good for today because… because…because…WHY? No good reason. I was miffed but I’m not going to argue, just note that this place doesn’t honor their posted offers. DUMB. We got the chicken skewers & hummus. Both tasty & I appreciated that they brought me more bread when I ran out of it but had hummus left. We ordered another chicken skewer to filly our bellys up. When the bill came, the second order of skewers wasn’t on there. I’m hoping the bartender really just realized that my check-in offer was legit and left it off. Either way, we tipped like it was on there and went back to the fest. Yay!

Went her tonight for pub quiz. I’m not sure what to think. My experience wasn’t great, but I think they have a lot to work out for busy nights. The food was good. I got the pulled pork cuban and southwest soup, both were delicious! Looks like good cocktails and good beers on tap. Now, the service was not so great. I think it must have been our waitress’ first week. There were six of us. I was the last to order. She didn’t write anything down and seemed like she was having some trouble remembering our orders. Needless to say, she completely screwed up my order. She got the soup right but no spoon, and never brought it out, I had to go in and get it. She didn’t bring my water when I asked and told me I could get my own inside AFTER, she had brought other people’s. She didn’t know the beers on tap and also told me I could go inside and look. GET A NOTEPAD! You could tell she was frazzled but she was rude about it, to all of us. Even though she screwed up all my stuff she gave some attitude to my friends too. So, not sure I’ll back because the service. Might try it, but I’ll know what I’m getting into. Didn’t like the waitress at all. She did comp my meal, but it was too little too late.

Very nice service. I’m giving them an extra star for being so nice. However, the food, the portions, sooooo small. I bought a $ 10 sandwich and it was like an appetizer. Have you seen my profile pic? Beth Willie needs to eat. But, for a sports bar, no frat boys. That’s good. Me likey no frat boys.

I was starting to think this building was cursed. I watched it go up with great excitement, and eagerly anticipated visiting the businesses that would inhabit it. Then came(and went) rocket, chesterfield, and the Report. Who would have the guts to take over, and what would they have to do to change the fate of bars opening in the big red building? When I heard about the Guild, I was cautiously optimistic. In the ground floor’s third iteration, the Guild is still reminiscent of the bars that had come before, but with a lot of noticeable tweaks that warmed and classed the space up a bit. Gone are the garish colors and uncomfortable furniture of the chesterfield and the identity crisis of the Report. The menu remains small and simple, but there is good variety, and I’ve been pleased with things I’ve tried. The draft beer list is above average, even for a town as blessed with great beer as Portland is. The pint prices are always good, and there are good happy hour deals to take advantage of on top of that. Another great option not seen in the previous bars is that the Guild offers CHEAP growlers fills of everything they’ve got on tap to take home with you. If you forgot to bring your empty growler, they have house ones available at a good price too. Another change is the nice indoor bike parking as soon as you come in the door. It’s nice to keep an eye on your ride when you stop in for a pint. The service at the Guild has been great on each of my visits, and they’ve done a great job making me feel both welcome and appreciated. For entertainment, they always have the game up on their big projector and TV’s. It’s a great place to watch if you don’t want that«sport’s bar vibe». All in all, I think the Guild is on the right track, and they’ll certainly continue to get my business from time to time. A good addition to the neighborhood.

Visited this place last night and had a great time. We were definitely there for a meal, and were not super impressed with the quality of the food. We enjoyed the sliders – those were good. I like the quesadilla, boyfriend didn’t. The mac and cheese was all right – it needed to be a bit creamier(it’s similar to cheese melted on noodles… which isn’t bad if that’s what you like your mac to be like). Our server asked how it was – and seemed extremely receptive to our feedback. We got the dessert as well, which was good, but I would’ve loved a warmer brownie. I loved the atmosphere, my boyfriend didn’t. I loved the selection of games, and I could see myself coming to this place with a group of friends and enjoy a night out with a homely atmosphere. Loved watching the game on TV as wel! Excellent service, great scene, food would be 3-stars, but I think they’re still figuring that piece out. It was good, but nothing to write home about. I’m a food snob, sorry. I’ll be back to try it out again in a month or two and see how things go… maybe try the huge cobb salad that everyone else mentioned.

Good place to have a couple of drinks and happy hour… Go on the right night and you’ll be able to try some good drinks by the creative bartender there. Atmosphere is more relaxed, much better than the venue before.

I have two jobs in the neighborhood, and couldn’t be happier I have this place to go to after a rough day. Or on a Tuesday. Or because it was raining. I give myself LOTS of excuses to come here… Happy hour is a great deal for drinks– I love grabbing a $ 3 glass of wine & people watching– there are plenty of interesting local politico’s that come around here! Couldn’t recommend one meal or beer over the other(the taps change regularly, on account of they’re tasty) — but always ask what the soup of the day is. They make them from scratch in the back, and I’ve always been happy.

OHMY! I have found the Best Mac ‘n Cheese in Portland, possibly in the World! Jesse and Molly were kind enough to reserve the loft last night for a party of Meetin Portland folk, it was our Monthly Mingler. As the official host for April I arrived first, and was quickly joined by a few friends. We ordered food and libation right away. Next thing I knew I was dipping my fork into pure comfort food heaven. I don’t usually order Mac ‘n Cheese when I’m out because homemade is usually so much better and I am disappointed in what is usually served. I have friends who have gone on a Pacific Northwest Mac ‘n Cheese Tour, and still I’m always skeptical. For some reason, I wanted the Mac ‘n Cheese last night and boy-oh-boy, am I glad I followed my urges. Oh, and yes, I think that The Guild Public House is a great place! They are welcoming to groups, we had a great area and a big screen TV so no one had to miss the game, our server was also wonderful even though at one point the place was packed. Everyone should go and try it, you’ll like it!

The Guild Public House is great! Jesse and Mollly really understand how to serve up great food, awesome beer, and delicious cocktails without making anyone feel silly or pretentious. You go here for great food, friendly service, and the fact that there are no meters for street parking. #win Top recommendations would have to include the pulled pork sandwich and the grilled chicken sandwich, which both come with several side options. We went with the side salad, which was really good. The Guild’s version of a Spanish Coffee is the Span Fran. YUM. It comes in a darling little glass with a sugar rim, and it’s just the perfect thing to have when it’s cold outside. Yes, I’ll be coming back again and again and again because the food’s great, the people chill, and the prices are just right. Note: they can do events for just over 100 people. Perfect space for that sort of a thing.

Love the atmosphere of this trendy new bar! The owners, Jesse and Molly, have turned this once stink hole of a bar into an upscale, lovely place to go have a drink for happy hour. Their happy hour menu includes great nibble food, like Tillamook cheese cubes and crackers, hummus, and delicious salads, all for only $ 3 a pop. That goes REALLY well with $ 3 Hopworks IPAs and Ninkasi stout. That’s right, $ 3 for microbrews during happy hour. Unheard of! I’ll definitely be back for more, and to check out their new pub quiz on Tuesday nights.

Conveniently located across the street from a bus transfer stop at the corner of Burnside and Sandy, which is the reason that I stopped in here because the«12′» blew right past me at the bus bench and the next one wasn’t coming for 30 minutes. Place looks new and has a good modern atmosphere. For 9PM on a Saturday night was strangely light in activity. When we walked in we at first thought that they were about to close. The 2 bartenders were friendly and attentive. The beer selection is commendable, with about 10 tasty beers on tap that I haven’t seen at other locations in the city. Now that I know that the Guild is located on this often traveled bus route I may just jump off on the ride home from work on occasion for a brew or two.

The Guild Public House offers a great variety of top notch microbrews on tap from some breweries you may not have heard of, but you better try now. I am talking Oakshire(Eugene), Walking Man(Stevenson, WA), Natian(Portland), Everyman(Camas, WA) and Burnside Brewing from right down the street. Better yet, the prices. It is only $ 3 for a pint during happy hour and $ 4 after that. They also have great, cheap eats. You need to check out The Guild! Marc Z.

When I arrived at the Guild Public House, it was very loud inside due to some sort of industry-specific party that was being held in the upstairs area which was spilling out into the bar area below. The noise level made it a little tough to communicate with the bartenders, but the noise abated eventually. I don’t know if these sorts of events are common here, but I imagine the vibe would be much improved if they weren’t. They did have a pretty good looking happy hour menu, but I arrived right at the end of it, so I didn’t order from it. I had checked out the website in advance, and based on the photos, was expecting a bigger space, but it really wasn’t so large inside. On to the food & drink: I had a cup of the soup of the day, which was black bean soup with cheddar and cilantro. Very tasty indeed, although it had hoped for a little spice in it. I also ordered the Cobb salad, which turned out to be enormous, especially given the price — $ 10. The ingredients were all top-notch and delicious, but it was served in that«deconstructed» fashion, with all the toppings in their own little piles. Even the chicken breast was only minimally sliced, to the point where I had to cut it up myself. This is a personal preference thing, but I would rather that they actually constructed a salad for me instead of a giant platter of mise-en-place. The beer selection(the main reason I came) was mostly local, and a B+ overall, but consisted of only 10 taps. They did have a bottle list, but it was pretty un-inspiring. I ended up having a pint of Walking Man’s Homo Erectus IPA, which was delicious, and it had been a while since I drank this particular beer, so it was nice to be reminded of how good it is. I think this establishment is still getting its footing, and not quite sure what it’s trying to be or what clientele it’s catering to. I’ll re-visit it in a month or two…
