The Home Depot

I am so exhausted with this home depo, every time I go in there they either tell me my project is impossible or try and sell me things I didn’t ask for and don’t need. I get lead in the wrong direction and can’t trust asking questions with out sifting through all the sales bull shit to get an answer. This is the second time in a month Iv thought about never coming back! I’m going to have to start to buy online because the Internet doesn’t judge me for being a woman doing home improvement projects and doesn’t treat me like I don’t under stand how to use basic tools.

I have used home depot before in the past when I use to live in California, and the work was satisfactory, not the best but it did the job so I can sell the house, the condo and for a quick fix if I needed something cheap. But this was really messed up and I will never work with them again. I will got to Lowes where it is not busy and not crowded and where I can actually find someone that can actually walk me to the product and not just tell me what aisle the product is on and thats it. I purchased granite countertops from home depot and scheduled everything from an employee named Paul, if I knew his last name I would put it down like I did with jessica holder from precision countertops. We purchased and paid in full back on December 31, 2015. Precision is the contractor that home depot goes through and I have to let you all know, DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS LOCATION, ESPECIALLY PAUL HE’LL SAY YOUR NEW SINK IS WARPED AND NOT THE CRAPPY ASS JOB THAT PRECISION DOES. Well all I can say is that if precision sized and cut out the granite correct the first time none of this would have happened. Installation was supposed to be on Feb 1, 2016. But precision fucked up on the sizing of the sink and said Home Depot states to contact them because they are the installer and if they do not compensate to come back to Home Depot afterwards. If I can give a zero to precision I would give a zero, Jessica Holder is our project manager and just stated that precision counter tops does not compensate for problems that they made because it happens. My question to her is how would she feel if that happened to her? 2 weeks without a kitchen sink? Precision must be paying her well in order for her to go out everyday for 2 weeks, breakfast, lunch and dinner. So I’m assuming from that statement, they mess up all the time. What happened was Home Depot contracts with precision counter tops and they did the measurements with for my kitchen counter tops. From what I know about Home Depot is if a contractor gets enough complaints Home Depot will drop the contractor. All Jessica said they don’t compensate for not having a kitchen sink will talk with us again after the install on Feb 12. My answer will still be the same. !@#$% Customer Service sucks because I went 2 weeks without F!@#$%^& kitchen sink. I have 3 adults and an infant, without a kitchen sink to wash dishes or rinse so we can use the dish washer, going out to eat for 2 weeks is very expensive, breakfast lunch and dinner. Now if this was my fault I can understand, except it and suck it up but this was out of my control. And I believe there is a need for some compensation for there F!@# up. Everything was okay until the day of the install, Feb 1, the installers said that they made a mistake with the measurements of the sink. They messed up and they need to resize one of the counter tops, the installers said that they can leave behind the old kitchen sink and just set it on top with 2×2’s, well I looked at it and with the sink cracked on the edges and with an infant around its pretty unsafe. The installer states that our project manager, Jessica Holder will be contacting us to reschedule and it may take 7 days to remeasure and get things done. But don’t quote him on that. Well it was 2 days and still no call from Jessica, we approached Home Depot yesterday, Feb 3, and the ASM gave us information on whom our project manager is with precision and to contact them because someone has to compensate for this. I called while in the store yesterday after 3pm and her voicemail states if you call after 3pm she will contact you the next day. Well to make a longer story short. Jessica Holder called and left a voicemail, we called her back and she states that precision does not compensate for cases like this because things like this happen, and wants to talk to us again after the install on Feb 12 to see how we feel about the install, so almost 2 weeks without a kitchen sink. My answer will still be the same as now. Customer Service F!@#$%& sucks! I can’t be vulgar so I’m using that instead. AND I WILL BE COMPLAINING TO HOME DEPOT TO DROP PRECISION COUNTER TOPS AS A CONTRACTOR. But that won’t happen because there the only larger contractor out here in the PNW… Well It is now March 2 and all we’ve received is broken promises, paul is pretty much useless he says the new sink is warped THE SINK IS WARPED! Rebecca the ASM says we have to contact precision, we were promised $ 500 compensation and still no check, we called precision and spoke to jessica holder’s assistant and they said they gave the check to home depot. Okay, how is that going to help me if you give the check to home depot. well we didn’t get a check but a refund back to our credit card. I DON’T KNOW BUT THANK GOD FOR THE BBB BECAUSE KIM FROM CORPORATE HOME DEPOT HAD TO APPLY PRESSURE IN ORDER FOR S%!T TO HAPPEN. Well its over and was finally complete on March 10, 2016. Learn 1 thing avoid home depot, precision and paul.

This review is about the people and services at this particular Home Depot, since in my experience all Home Depots are set up in a similar manner and all pretty much carry the same items. I do like Home Depot as an easy place to stop and shop for a bunch of hardware/​garden needs.
Firstly, the general staff are hard to find, and when I actually get to talk to one they aren’t in the right department. This isn’t too much of a big deal, because the staff are usually very nice and will go find someone who can answer our question.
I encountered the most problems with the flooring department. There is never anybody around at the register, and when I ask customer service the answer is «well they SHOULD be there, i’ll call them». This doesn’t help, it takes about 10 – 15 minutes for the flooring ‘specialist’ to arrive. When they do actually arrive, they acts as if helping a customer is a huge inconvenience for them. Our questions were answered in the quickest way possible with no extra help. For example, we asked about Shaw carpeting because we heard of a great warranty offered by that company. When we asked the flooring guy to show us this carpeting, he pointed at the area that had all of the carpeting samples and said «it’s over there.»
Despite this, we tried to order a carpet installation for our new home. We paid the deposit and gave our information over and were told that we would be contacted in the next few days to set up a measurement appointment. A week goes by, so we call the flooring department and ask about the measurement. It seems that the person didn’t write down our phone number correctly, so we gave them our actual contact info and tried to get the measurement set up again. Another week passes, and when we call again asking about the status AGAIN we were told that our phone number was written down incorrectly. We finally set up a measurement by calling ourselves later that week and scheduling one.
When the day/​time comes around for the carpeting measurement, nobody showed up at the scheduled time. When we called and asked about it (we called the Home Depot customer service this time because we wanted to avoid the flooring department’s problems) we were told that the flooring department set up the measurement for a different day, which we couldn’t make due to work, so we had to reschedule again for the next week, and AGAIN the flooring department scheduled our measurement for a different time than what we discussed on the phone with them, so we had to wait and reschedule again.
At this point, we decided not to get carpeting from Home Depot because we didn’t know what other surprises were going to be in store for us after the scheduling, so we cancelled our order, got our deposit money refunded, and went with another store for our flooring needs.
A few days later we get a call in the morning from Home Depot saying that the measurement crew is on their way to our house to take the measurement. So it seemed that the flooring department didn’t relay our cancellation to their workers.
If you want to get flooring from Home Depot, I would recommend trying a different location for your needs. This store seems to be unable to handle flooring requests.

Relatively decent prices, god awful, mostly incompetent crew, especially those that’ve been with them for longer times. Sometimes offensively rude in your face. Most recent example, was returning something and the older haggish grayish looking woman who was processing it permitted herself this «we’ll permit you to shop unsupervised today» directly in my face. Offensive as it was an attempt to register my complain about it with the manager failed, he/​she was too lazy to get get his/​her a… s out of his office. Another floor worker tried to explain it as an attempt at humor.
Generally they love to harass you at this place by sending their barely disguised security monkeys to follow you around.
Earlier example from another visits (a) discussed selecting some merchandise with a specially summoned (by another floor worker) expert in the field, who turned out did not even have an elementary knowledge in the area, (b) needed a tool to punch a hole in a stainless steel sink, the «idiot» who was staging a scene with a pretend «customer» nearby claimed they do not sell such tools. It turns out even Ikea sells them in their extremely meager tool section. Not sure what the situation is in other HD places, hopefully it is just this place that stinks to high heaven.

I have to say I am a fan of the Home Depot and this one is the easiest to get to when I need something. It has an easy to navigate classic Home Depot lay out so it is easy to find what I need.
Service; As others have mentioned, staff can be hard to find. That said I can’t remember the last time I needed them. Usually I know what I need and can picture in my head where in the store it is. So I just run in and get it.
Prices: Home Depot has good prices, it is rare I can find something similar for less elsewhere.
The one area I don’t like Home Depot for is appliances, when I was buying appliances Lowes delivery does a lot more for me then Home Depot. At the same price.
Still Lowes is quite a bit farther from me so for everyday Home depot tends to be my first choice.

Very iffy service. Sometimes the employees are great but generally they are rude and incompetent. This place is fine if you know exactly what you need and don’t have to talk to one of the employees, however if you do you will likely leave amazed by how terrible their service can be.

We placed an order for flooring on a Wednesday night. The flooring was supposed to be delivered to the store Monday at the earliest or Thursday at the latest. We choose to go with Home Depot over a competitor because we should have been able to receive the flooring either a little faster or potentially a lot faster, which was important because we would be out of the house and the flooring could be replaced while we were gone. I called to check on status today and was told the order wasn’t even placed until Monday. (Hard to receive an order that was supposed to arrive then if it hasn’t even been placed.) And the order wouldn’t arrive until Friday. Suffice, to say Home Depot is not at the top of my list for customer service. I also spoke with a manager who was polite and said he would look into it. But we just received a voicemail there is nothing they can do. Friendly folks in the store, but I am overall unimpressed with Home Depot.

The employees at this store are very friendly. If they knew what they were talking about I would even say they are helpful. Unfortunately one trip to this store pretty much destroyed my house. I have an older home in a rural area with cedar siding walls. It is beautiful wood but it is too old fashioned. I wanted to paint them white and I knew I would need some primer. Normally I would do my own research, but the new house is in a rural area with zero cell/​data reception, and no internet access. The kid at the paint counter listens to my story and tells me I would do best to use Kilz primer. So he walks me over to some random Kilz primer and tells me this is the one I need. My wife says something about not having to worry about getting paint on the floor because we are about to replace the floor. Then (and this should have been a red flag for me) he tells me he is actually not a paint guy; he is a flooring guy, and he proceeds to show us flooring. It turns out the primer he sold me is PVA primer, which is only supposed to be used for brand new drywall. Kilz makes over 30 primers, and this kid just pointed the nearest one, which happened to be the worst one for my application. The PVA primer, when applied to an oily wood like cedar, basically acts as paint repellant. No matter how many coats of primer or paint, the natural oils in the wood kept showing through. It looks terrible and there is nothing we can do. We now are going to have to drywall over all of our walls, which is what we were trying to avoid in the first place. The only other option would be to sand all of the walls down with a power sander, which sounds like a nightmare. Thats not all… this kid also gave us the hard sell on Allure vinyl plank flooring, telling us they’ve made advancements in the way this flooring is made, and it is totally waterproof unlike laminates which can be destroyed by one unnoticed spill. We liked the sound of that, as well as the ease of installation so we bought it the next day. It installed easy and it looks good. But two weeks later I hear on the news that Home Depot is pulling this product (and other vinyl flooring products) because its surface off-​gases dangerous neurotoxins for years to come. It is unsafe for prolonged exposure, especially for pregnant women or young children who play on the floor. We planned to try for a baby as soon as the updates to these house were finished. I am pulling up the flooring and the new baseboards this week and starting on the drywall. What started as a weekend project is basically turning into a gut rehab. I don’t blame this kid at the store for not knowing in advance that Home Depot was going to pull this product, but I blame Home Depot for not getting the word out there sooner, and for not informing their employees about selling poisonous floors to young parents. I don’t wish to make this kid feel bad, but the bottom line is if someone else had helped me I wouldn’t be out a couple grand, the project would be going very differently, and Home Depot would not have lost my business.

You have choices with hardware and garden… Lowes, home Depot, Ace, Tru-​value, Orchard supply, even Wal-​mart to an extent.
But really folks, what beats the home depot? the original. 99% of the time I find exactly what I need. Sure it can be daunting at times finding someone to help, and occasionally they are out of something. However, this place is easy to get in and out of, almost everything is laid out where you think it should be.
If I go in for one thing I need, I almost always find other things I did not even realize I needed…
The self check is pretty quick, I do wish they would staff more people on the registers, but with self check you can make up some time.
Watch the flyers, sometimes things like barkdust go on sale 4 for 10, a pretty good buy. I upgraded my 14 year old Toro with the same model and got a great price!

The customer service at this store is knock-​your-​socks-​off good. We just moved to the area and every employee at this store has been so friendly and helpful. Every time I walk in I feel like I’ve been these people’s friends for years. We talked with the welcomer at the front door for probably 10 minutes as he explained to us how to strip cabinets. One employee walked around the whole store with us to different sections while we crossed things off our list. After each item he’d say, «What’s next on your list?» Everyone here is so awesome and willing to share their own personal experience, stories and suggestions about which items to purchase. This Home Depot rocks! :)

First the good, great store with very helpful staff. Then the not so good stuff, i would not recommend using Home depot for window coverings. I ordered blinds through home depot twice and both times the orders were delayed and completion took several weeks even though they «guarantee» it should not take more than 3 weeks. These delays were despite ordering products that were not special order and repeatedly pointing out that the first ordering experience was terrible.

WATCH OUT: NO LEGITIMATE RECEIPT FOR ON-​LINE ORDERS! If you order an item for home use, perhaps you do not need a legitimate receipt. But if you need a receipt for a rebate, or documentation for a business expense, or for reimbursement from someone… Home Depot DOES NOT provide a sufficient receipt.
I needed a receipt for a $ 75 rebate from our Water District, but the receipt did NOT include the Manufacturer’s name (Kohler in this case) nor the MODEL NUMBER of the item purchased. So, the District would not accept what Home Depot sent, and «order confirmation» and later a «shipping confirmation.» Neither of these included the name of the manufacturer or the model of item, or did it name what the item was: «toilet» anywhere on the forms!
So, I am either out the $ 75 rebate, or, return the item to the local store and buy it at LOWE’s or on-​line from Amazon or Build​.Com. By undermining the low-​water rebates by not providing legitimate receipt, Home Depot is also undermining water conservation efforts. I have done a LOT of shopping at Home Depot in the past. Now, the new Lowe’s is close by and of course Amazon carries about everything, AND provides immediate electronic receipts. Bad on Home Depot.

Home Depot is the closest home improvement store to my home, so I am usually very forgiving about the service and the quality of products they carry. But today they really disappointed me.
I had little time and a few critical plumbing questions. A fellow customer and I actually tried to help each other during the 10 minutes we waited for help. The staff does a good job hiding in the corners and by the walls, and they talk to each other so they look occupied. Some don’t wear the full apron with their name on it, and avoid eye contact.
I finally cornered one employee before he fled, but after he realized I wanted a specific measurement on a display model, he didn’t want to climb the portable stairs. He pointed to the stairs and had me climb up. Hey, I am able bodied, so I took the measurement, but it was too far to get an accurate measurement with my tape. I didn’t feel like leaning because the employee wasn’t even spotting me. Somehow, I think this employee was breaking a rule in the worst way… I don’t think customers are allowed to climb the portable stairs, but I would suppose that if you did have a customer up high, you would at least watch them and hold the stairs for them.
Well, it was close, and I bought the toilet it only to return it, then go to another store for the right product.
Attention Home Depot managers, watch your employees. They scurry about, trying to appear busy or distracted, and when approached, they have many strategies to avoid customers. The ones who are slow enough to approach typically don’t know anything.

I was needing help so I walked around the whole place trying to chase down a staff. I gave up so I went to a check out line and asked someone if the could call someone to come over to the roofing section. I heard the overhead PA and headed back to the roofing aisle. I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. I couldn’t tolerate it anymore so I left.

I go to hardware stores on a regular basis and have been to numerous Home Depot stores. The science park store is by far the most frustrating. The employees mask not having skills and knowledge with snarky and rude behavior. It was a challenge to not tell the guy who sold shoes last week that he didn’t have a clue. The challenge was compounded by his rudeness. Most customers don’t work in a trade and go away thinking they are stupid after dealing with staff.
I would suggest having the employees trained. This may help their frustration level.
I tried to buy a mitre saw as a Christmas gift. They were out of almost all saws. The snarky employee reminded me it was Christmas time and «people buy a lot of the saws at Christmas». Gee, who didn’t see Christmas was coming and buy more product.
I asked if there were any other hardware stores in the area that had saws. I was told to try Lowes. The employee seemed disgruntled and agreed when I said directing customers to the main competitor would be frowned on. He surprisingly said he sometimes goes to lowes and can’t stand Home Depot. Refreshing but odd. I went to lowes and they in fact anticipated Christmas and had numerous saws. Wow.

To the older gentleman in the contractor dept, working on Sunday, August 18, 2013 around 11:00am, who treated my mother like she was an idiot. All she wanted was someone to help her figure out the supplies needed to build a bed frame for a California king. She heard Home Depot could help with that & had every intention of buying what was necessary to get the job done. Before she could even finish explaining you had to interrupt with, «We don’t do that here & we have to have measurements!» There was no need to be snotty & rude about it. Since when does Home Depot not help customers find supplies for their home improvement projects? Also, if HD supposedly «don’t do that» then why would you need measurements?
Instead of trying to help you tell her to search online, i.e. YouTube, to figure it out herself. When she commented she hadn’t realized YouTube had DIY videos & further asked if it would tell her what supplies she’d need too, how did you respond? You tore off a piece of paper, wrote down three sites, & told her if she wants to know how to do anything to go to these three sites. Really? eHow
& YouTube are what you suggest? Give me a break. First of all,
! Second, she wasn’t asking for a list of medications 17+ letters long that only a PharmD or MD would know how to pronounce, or how to spell esophagogastroduodenoscopy, or even a damn Christmas list. You could’ve just told her the three but you didn’t. That made her feel like you thought she was stupid which is no way to treat a customer.
You need a major attitude adjustment & you lack customer service skills. You were rude, condescending, & unpleasant enough to ruin her day. Treat customers, or everyone for that matter, the way you’d want to be treated. That’s all she wanted but obviously that was too much to ask.

Home depot is what I call a necessary evil — I say this because not only being a homeowner, my husband works in construction and for renovations and projects makes many trips there. Some days it’s a crap shoot if you need help in the store, and others you are grateful for the massive selection of items. They have many basics, and you can basically do most of what you need with what they supply here. I guess my apprehension is that we go there so often and it just feels like you are never going to get out of there!

This is not my «usual» HD location. Ever since they built the newer location down by 110^th and Farmington, I have gone there simply due to convenience. Although I do frequent the oddball Lowe’s /​HomeDepot shared location in Hillsboro. Just feels odd when I go there.
This place is pretty good. I actually like coming here since this is so far from my normal part of the burbs, that there are many other places (read food) that I can try where I don’t usually want to drive to get to.
This location seems well organized and easy to manuver around. They were actually in the middle of a redesign when I went so the aisle with screws and the like was spread over two aisles, but I know they need to do that stuff some time.
checking out was super fast and convenient, I always like that I have yet to find the standard lines that other box box stores seem to specialize in creating.
Were it not for the closer location I would be all over this for when I need it.

My husband’s parents recently ordered cabinets from home depot, some were in stock and some were custom. After placing the order and waiting 2 weeks for the cabinets to come in (which is fine, we were told it would be that long), we got them home only to find that three of them were damaged. And not the kind of damaged that happens during shipping. Damaged when they were put together, tried to repair, then sending anyways. Boards were cracked, nails missed boards, it was really awful. And… of course the broken cabinets were custom AND the upper cabinets, which we were hoping to get in first before the base cabinets. No such luck.
When my husband and father-​in-​law took the broken cabinets back to Home Depot, the first two sales associates told them there wasn’t anything they could do. They finally got to speak to a manager and she told them that they could order new ones and have them rushed here. No offer for any kind of compensation for the hassle. My husband asked what they were going to do to make the situation right, and the manager replied «Oh, we can talk about that once the cabinets are in.»
Now, you may ask how long it took for this «rush» order of cabinets to get here. Well, we placed the order on Saturday, February 18^th, and were told yesterday that they wouldn’t be here until AFTER March 13^th. Wow, awesome job rushing an order that takes 2 weeks standard. So, my mother-​in-​law gets to wait another 2 weeks to have her kitchen back AND we get to install upper cabinets over the lower ones AND have no promise from Home Depot that they will do anything to rectify the situation.
Should a Home Depot representative read this post and choose to respond to me to help the situation, I would be happy to change my review. As of now, I would not recommend anyone buy cabinets from here. Situation went from bad to worse to even worse.
UPDATE 3÷26÷12: Home Depot has refunded 10% of the cost of the cabinets. Not exactly making up for the whole hassle, but enough for me to change me one star review to three stars.

I’ve been here before with no problems, because I never really needed any help. Today changed my thoughts about this place. I needed help in the wood department and I got the worse help ever. The guy was just simply rude and not friendly. Anyway, if you ever need assistance in the wood department and his name happens to be Jordan (employee), ask for someone else.
Jordan if you’re reading this, please quit your job If you hate it. Otherwise change your attitude.
