We had a delicious brunch with great service! The Eggs Benedict was on point and the homemade bread was legit. A hidden gem… worth a visit!

Forget the Screen Door. This place is awesome. Delicious GF waffle(vegan too!) with a side of fried eggs. Going to come back for the turkey burger and the apple fritters next time. Great beer selection too. A best-kept secret for sure, but it shouldn’t be!

We stopped in here for Brunch on a Sunday morning, around 10AM. When we walked in, we weren’t sure they were open as there was only one other couple in the place. We definitely had a mixed experience. Service was slow, and my guess is that there was only one person working when we first got there. The gentleman serving us was friendly enough, but I think we only saw him three times: when he first seated us, when he brought us coffee/took our orders, and when he dropped off our food. The GF ordered the huevos rancheros, and I ordered the Hungarian sausage and a side of scrambled eggs, and we both asked for coffee. The GF’s plate was a bit of a mess, primarily with the guacamole being oxidized and brown. Not just a layer of brown, but to the point that I didn’t realize it was guac when I first looked at her plate. I realize a bit of guac that’s brown isn’t that big of a deal, but it definitely throws off the presentation, and makes you question everything else on your place. The sausage and the sauerkraut were good, but there were no eggs. When we got our food, we were out of coffee, and while he mentioned coming back to refill our coffee, that never happened, so I wasn’t able to point out that I didn’t get my eggs, nor were we able to say anything about the guac. By the time we were checked in on, it looked like a bartender and a waitress had arrived, and the the waitress was in an awkward spot helping the half dozen other tables, and then checking in on us. She could clearly see the GF hadn’t eaten much, and that we’d been waiting a while, and I mentioned the missing eggs to her(which I no longer wanted as I had finished my meal a while back). In any case, she settled us up and we got out the door If it had been just me, and I’d only ordered the sausage, this likely would have been a four star experience, but with the slow service, forgotten food, and brown guac, there was definitely plenty of room for improvement.

Agree overall with Le C’s review below: LOVE ambiance(and lack of wait-time!); house bread & herbed butter phenomenal; rest of the food interesting, mostly-successful. Is true that the peculiar range of menu items was a bit alarming, but everything we got was tasty and flavorful, if a bit quirky. Stumbled upon Slide Inn at around 7:00 pm New Year’s Day in desperate search for dinner without a line; the space is relaxed and welcoming with friendly, competent service, excellent soulful music. There was only one server for a handful of tables, but she handled the numbers well, until her husband(the chef/owner) took over. We ordered four small plates to share: kale salad, spinach crêpe, vegan sausage, gluten-free gnocchi. The gnocchi was a little strange in texture and size: a bit like little mashed-potato lumps. Am not convinced the gluten-free aspect works with gnocchi, but the sauce was very nice. Likewise, the crêpe was interesting, though not quite what I expected: instead of the large, french style folded in quarters, it was two small, crispy shells stuffed with spinach and ricotta(didn’t taste any mushrooms) over a slightly overwhelming fruited sauce. Of these things, I’d def. order the kale salad again: the sweetness of the berries and nuttiness of the seeds nicely balanced the bitterness of the kale and offset the tartness of the chevre; was perfectly dressed. Overall, I’d go back for the atmosphere and brown bread alone; would try the daily fondu – maybe with the house-made ginger beer. Given the German theme, ordering in that line seems wise. My s.o. thought the vegan sausage and kraut was the winner. Also, since *many* items were house made from scratch, consulting with the server/chef might be the wisest route to their house specialties.

I had the pork wiener schnitzel and it was delicious. Service was great and there was a really nice ambience. I definitely will be back and recommend this place to anyone for dinner.

1. Strange and unappetizing name. 2. Disgusting, strange tasting drinks. 3. Terrible food, I believe my meal was microwaved. 4. Bad service, the host is the waiter, the waiter is the chef, and the chef is the bus boy– Jack of all trades! 5. Disorienting. However, I was very pleased that the stray cats and other neighborhood animals were being fed by the food that was forgotten on the outside tables. Perhaps this was a bad night but the restaurant was completely empty, which is usually sign that the place is bad. However, I took a chance and tried it out. I have never left a restaurant before without completing the meal because I find it rude, but I have never been to such a gross restaurant. We did not finish the meal or our drinks– we paid and ran far, far away.

This place is a neighborhood hidden gem. The ambiance is casual and cozy and the service is friendly. I’m much more likely to go here than wait in line for a table at one of the neighborhood’s crowded spots. I’ve visited for dinner and brunch several times and everything I’ve gotten has been fresh and delicious. Basil pesto chicken pasta was incredible at dinner. And breakfast was amazing. Simply asking the owner, Eugene, about any of the menu items will reveal his passion for flavorful, good quality, locally sourced food. They cure their meats in house, grow some of their own produce, and make their own naturally brewed/infused flavored syrups to go on their amazing waffles. Give it a try!

Delicious, filling Austrian and German food! Cozy ambience, it felt like we had just walked into someone’s home. Very friendly and informative wait staff, and fun 1970s music playing. My partner and I ordered the Austrian pancake called a Kaiserschmarren, which was similar to a bread pudding. It had vanilla, orange, and spiced flavors and was completely decadent and very filling. My favorite dish there though would have to be the hand made sausages. We ordered the spicy Hungarian and the turkey Apple sausages over sauerkraut. These were phenomenal! The sauerkraut was not too bitter, it was flavorful and served warm with the sausage. They also make their own ginger beer, which was smooth and fresh! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun brunch!

What an overall disappointing experience at the Slide Inn! A friend and I came here on a Monday night for food and drink — I was excited to see they had all-night Happy Hour that night, but was immediately a bit skeptical when we were the only ones in the joint, and the menu offered items ranging from salad rolls with peanut sauce to gnocchi to house made sausages. Hmmmm. We sat down and waited unnecessarily long for service even though we were the only ones there. We each ordered a beer and then a variety of food items. Everything we ate was disappointing. Nothing was very good, which is surprising when you live in a town with so many fantastic spots to eat and drink, I don’t know how mediocre ones stay in business. We tried the gnocchi, sliders, Hummus/Baba Ganoush plate, and chili. Meh, meh, meh. The server was nice and split our bills for us, but really other than that, I can’t imagine myself ever coming back here. My recommendation to this place: focus your food menu and offer German inspired fares(if that’s what you’re going for) and do them well. Too much competition here in PDX to be lackluster!

Came here for Saturday brunch. I’ll definitely be back for more brunch! FOOD Loved both the savory and sweet items. And I was impressed with all the veggie and gluten free options. But let’s be honest, I was mostly impressed with the homemade sausages. All are exceptional. I got the sausage scramble and it and the potato rosti side were fantastic. The apple pancake things were also incredible. Only gripe is that all the toast comes smothered in butter. I also liked how pretty much all the brunch items are $ 10. Makes choosing and splitting tabs real easy. DRINK Love the interesting options! Including ginger ale, ginger beer, good quality coffee, lavender lemonade. AMBIANCE Very cool. Great music, classy yet comfortable décor, high ceilings, good volume. SERVICE Admittedly terrible. For lord knows what reason, this was a one man show, with just one guy playing the role of host, server, and chef. Our orders were screwed up and the guy was clearly under stress with our every interaction. I don’t know why they’d have just one person to run the restaurant on a Saturday brunch hour. Oh well! It kind of added to the quirkiness.

Spinach and mushroom crepes. Enough said! Shut your Pacific NW face, forget the deprecating questions and put that deliciousness in your word hole. Also the staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxed but lively.

Probably the only place in Portland to get brunch without a line. The prices were good. the portion was just the amount I wanted to eat. The house made pumpernickel was to dye for, a Mia get. I got the veggies scramble and loved it. Tried a bite of the waffle(with pears) and the curried tofu hash. All were delicious. For sure about to become a regular.

I tried to eat brunch here for the first time this past weekend but was directed to the restaurant next door instead. I think there was a wedding happening– whatever it was, it looked rather fun. The interior of the place next door was cozy! I dug the leather loungey type sofa. It was actually perfectly what I was looking for, being that I brought a book. My only knock on the place is the food. The brunch was straight up terrible– I had a kale, goat cheese and prosciutto scramble. It was plated in an incredibly sloppy, unappealing manner and tasted like actual garbage. It was strange, because it didn’t even have that bitterness that kale can sometimes bring to the table when a chef isn’t careful to add enough high-acid foods to the dish, it just tasted… rancid. No seasoning. The prosciutto was, in fact, NOT prosciutto. It was a flavorless, thick ham substance. It didn’t mesh. And the goat cheese was much below average– it added nothing but mushy texture to the dish. I know good goat cheese and charcuterie– it’s what I do for a living. I will also add that the gluten-free bread could have been a great aspect of the dish but whoever was cooking decided to slap 10 lbs of butter on it. Woah, dude… that’s for me to do. I personally don’t like a ton of butter on toast and this was my first run-in with a brunch place serving toast(as opposed to *buttered* toast) that just slapped a ton on for you. By the time I got the plate, the temperamental gluten-free bread was already soggy and cold. This dish was very, very disappointing. Aside from this kale scramble issue, the staff was phenomenal. The bartender was also my server and she was such a sweetheart. She was courteous, genuine and a welcomed friendly face. She was also prompt in refilling the water that I was nearly chugging after a night at the bar. I live nearby so I would like to equate this culinary mishap to the fact that there was a wedding happening simultaneously. I will be back to give it another go and I definitely have high hopes based on other reviews and the personality of the staff.

There is no way to fully describe how much I enjoy eating here. The staff treats you like an old friend. The food has great variety and can cover almost any dietary needs. Best of all, it is DELICIOUS! Big group, small group, kids, zombies, panda bears, you name it, they will like it.

This place is disappointing on multiple levels. A friend and I showed up for happy hour and the place was empty for almost the entire time were there. Only at the end did another two people show up. The prices are good, but for the quality of food you’re receiving it’s just not worth it. Best to spend a bit more at one of Portland’s excellent happy hour locations. I ordered the salad rolls with peanut sauce and the tempura veggies. My friend had the spicy mac and cheese. We also each had a glass of house red wine. The wine was fine. Not great, not bad. Totally fine for $ 5. The food, however, is a different story. The salad rolls were packed well, but were mostly lettuce. They seriously needed a better balance of veggies and herbs so that you aren’t left with feeling you just bit a chunk out of a head of romaine. The peanut sauce wasn’t very peanut-y and was just disappointing. Plus, they didn’t provide a spoon for it, so when you dip your salad roll it starts to fall apart because you keep having to turn it upside down. These really could be a good happy hour item with some twerks. I suggest checking out how Jade in Sellwood does theirs. The veggie tempura was even worse. The batter was way too think and oily, and on some pieces it wasn’t even cooked all the way through. The choice of veggies was nice(squash, beet, red bell pepper) but they just did not turn out well. My friend’s mac and cheese looked decent. When the server came to request the check I mentioned the Unilocal check-in offer of 10% off our bill and the«mention Unilocal» offer of a free glass of wine with a purchase of over $ 20. The server seemed put off and confused by this request. The first thing he said was that our bill wasn’t over $ 20 so we couldn’t use the free wine. When we explained that it was, he said he needed to go add it up to see. After doing this he brought the check back with one of the glasses taken off but not the 10% discount. We didn’t want to make a fuss so we didn’t mention it again. We put two cards down and asked if he could split it 50:50. He said«We can’t really split it, you know?». No, I don’t know. I asked why he couldn’t and instead of giving me an answer, he decided he now could split it, and walked away. Weird. The décor inside is nice. You have to walk through the kitchen area to reach the restrooms. I walked into the one on the right and someone had neglected to flush the toilet so I walked into the one on the left. This one is seriously tiny. I’ve been in airline restrooms that have more room. Anyways, I won’t be back here. It’s no wonder why they were empty during happy hour.

EXCELLENT. On all counts. In early July, my husband and I attended a conference in Portland. We are vegan, and meet ups are encouraged, so we orchestrated a vegan food crawl. The planning was all done at the last minute, and Eugene was the first person I called as we plotted our route. From the very first conversation he was encouraging, understanding, and amazing. Originally, we found The Slide Inn on Happy Cow Our first stop on a three-restaurant food crawl was here, and I left the prix fix menu choices up to Eugene. I figured he knows his menu better than I! I couldn’t have been more impressed– sweet and chewy kale chips, a rustic plate of hummus and bread, decadent gnocchi and fresh, crisp spring rolls. If we lived in Portland, this would definitely be a go-to spot. Thank you Eugene!

How unfortunate that this review would written be on such disappointing terms. My fiancé and I planned on having our wedding rehearsal dinner here months in advance. We had been here on two previous occasions with a poetry group and truly enjoyed the interior decorating and atmosphere in general. The happy hour menu was also spot on. A little over a week before our dinner engagement we received a recorded message that stated we would no longer be having our rehearsal dinner here because someone else was going to be having theirs instead, in our place. There was no explanation as to why provided. No creative solutions. We were officially irrelevant. My fiancé attempted to iron out dinner options with the owner Eugene. He was willing to work with our party but we had to arrive early and leave by a certain time. We immediately became the less important guests. We created a menu together of items available at The Slide Inn and asked Eugene if he would be willing to use our menu. He said yes but with the following adjustments. We were not allowed to have two desserts. One dessert was no longer available and Eugene didn’t feel like making two. Our appetizers wouldn’t be included on the menu because not everyone would be getting an appetizer and the wine we chose was no longer available. We were met with a superior attitude in which he stated, «I will choose a grape for you at a similar price.» Upon asking to bring the Grenache wine he no longer carried we were required to take in a $ 15 cork fee per bottle. We are a party of 15 guests. All in all we were not welcome in this establishment and everything became incredibly forced and inconvenient. I cannot express how disappointing it was to go through this with a place we had hoped would be so grateful to create this once in a lifetime memory with our family. There was no eagerness to correct the situation. No apology for a mixup. No ownership of how our trust in the owner and his business had been completely compromised. We are always open to new opportunities with businesses but that being said, we will never attempt to book an event of heartfelt importance at The Slide Inn again.

This place is absolutely fantastic! The owner Gene is one of a kind and I highly recommend The Slide Inn for your next small party! I contacted Gene to see if we would be able to throw a baby shower for approx 35 people and he was more than accommodating. He was able to work with my budget and cater the whole event(amazing mexican food!) and even include a menu of drinks. The place is beautiful and perfect for a hosting a get together. Please check out the photos of the shower — I couldn’t have been happier!
