I never thought I would rate a car dealership 5 stars. But I have to tell you my experience with Barry Tarzavan has been top-​notch; allow me to share.
Things you should know about my experience as you consider purchasing a vehicle from these guys:
— Since I get off work late, Barry waited AFTER HOURS (they close at 6) so I could make the drive from Hillsboro to their shop
— He never once was pushy or obnoxious; Barry even showed me the price he bought the car for originally — talk about transparency! That would never happen at a dealership
— He had one of his employees work overtime to be on standby if there was anything I needed from them as they were showing me the car
— Barry called me the next day (he is dropping the car off at my house), and said that they were going to be a few minutes late, because he noticed that the keyless entry battery was running low, and went out to buy a battery to replace it so I wasn’t inconvenienced!
I’m thrilled, can’t wait to drive my new Volvo. Will definitely consider Barry and West Coast team for our next vehicle purchase.

Never once felt pressured. Nick answered the questions I had and was very helpful. Barry the owner very down to Earth and easy to speak with. They have a very nice collection of cars that they sell. When finished with them I did not feel I had to go take a shower to wash off the scum. Can’t say enough to great things about this business.

As an American I’m a car lover. What I drive is in some way, fashion, or form, an extension of my personality. I need something for getting from A to B, but I look for something that makes me feel a certain way when I’m doing that and something I can count on. I have an analytical mind so I tend to research my options exhaustively and oddly enough though I’m an introvert I enjoy spending a day driving from dealership to dealership, talking with the salesmen, and test driving. I never make such an expensive decision on the car lot and with few exceptions sleep on it (an attitude that has clearly irritated more than one sweet talking car rep). It’s not simply my love of cars that has me out on a sunny weekend test driving when I might otherwise be at the beach, but also a love of psychology, sociology, and culture, and the car dealership is the perfect microcosm of these.
Integrity is a big deal to me. Dishonesty is the antithesis of it. When it comes to family, friendships, romantic relationships, even work, the absence of integrity is a clue to the nearby existence of a fan and a pile of something vile smelling. Avoid at all costs. On a car lot, however, it’s a chance to exercise boundaries, communication skills, adjust trust levels, learn how to better deal with people who maybe aren’t quite straight shooters. On a car lot you can walk away and forget about it.
When I was younger I judged the integrity of a dealership by one simple test: did they listen to what I wanted? If I said I’m looking for an affordable family care in the $ 20 — $ 25k range did they push me towards an SUV with all the extras? A person lacking integrity, in my humble opinion, shows their colors initially by demonstrating a simple inability to listen. Recently, though, I’ve added another test. It’s called the Kelly Blue Book test. I ask the dealer, «My benchmark of a dealership is whether you sell me a car for Blue Book prices and if you’ll take my trade in for Blue Book. Will you?» Always, always, they say yes, they do that. Nearly always they ask more than KBB for the car they’re offering (and aren’t willing to haggle) and offer less than KBB for the one i’m trading in (and aren’t willing to haggle). Integrity? I think not.
The vehicle I was considering was a 2008 Mini Cooper with only 52k miles. Their offer for my trade in was low, but it was still Blue Book, and I was able to haggle them up a little. They weren’t willing to haggle on the Cooper, but I could understand why: it was a fair Blue Book rate and frankly with so few miles on the vehicle and it being in such good condition (much better condition and price than anything similar at Mini of Portland) it was more than fair. And that’s the minimum of what I look for when purchasing a vehicle: fair numbers.
West Coast Auto Group was much more than that, though. From the moment my wife and I walked on the lot the family run dealership was polite, respectful, and friendly. They didn’t pressure and John, the guy I worked with, provided one of the most «real» interactions I’ve experienced with a car dealer. But hey, they want to sell a car, of course they smile, remember my name, and act like my best friend. Duh.
So blah, blah, blah, my wife and I decide to purchase the vehicle, and the next day I notice a warning light on the dash and the low tire pressure light’s coming on when I start her up. We fill the tires up to 51psi but the lights stay on. Google gives me two answers, neither of which is worrisome, so I get in touch with John and ask about coming in and having them connect to the computer to see what the error code is. No problem. I drive in during lunch, he and his brother connect their computer which shows no error codes, but instead of stopping there John runs in, does some research, returns to the car, we open the hood, and sure enough the windshield wiper fluid is almost out, hence the light. I purchase some fluid, reset the computer, and boom, no more warning lights.
Buying a car can be stressful; purchasing used can be ten times so. West Coast Auto took that stress away. They were honest, approachable, friendly, and respectful. Like any business they’re there to make money but they didn’t play games in order to make the sale. And they passed one of the most important tests there is: if and when I’ve had a question or potential problem they didn’t blow me off but did everything to help even though they really had no legal obligation to do so («as-​is» is «as-​is» folks). I’ve nearly never found these qualities in a dealership and I plan on going back when my wife and I are ready to replace her current vehicle.

I purchased recently and put a good amount of money down I thought. When Keywordpurchasing I asked for the owners manual and was promised by berry that he would PDF one to me which never happened. I feel like a fish out of water trying to figure it out. Then once we got home we looked at the spare tire and jack apparatus and there was none. You could tell it had been taken out hurriedly because everything was in disarray. My husband called and inquired about it and he said basically you bought it as is and that’s to bad. Ok but that is not you do a customer if you call yourselves having upstanding business practices. I ask God to bless them because these where both easily remedied by them and they have failed sorely. So watch your back and be extra aware.
Ps. I had inquired about an older model of the same vehicle that had just been sold. I bet you they have an owners manual and a spare tire :-(

So far I’ve had the best sales experience of any dealership with west coast. The atmosphere was laid back, the selection of vehicles was outstanding and my wife finally found a place she felt free to roam. John the co-​owner was extremely helpful and attentive. Really has a personal touch on a business marred by shady dealers. Looking forward to doing much more business in the future.

Great service, no BS. I found a car that I like on their website and they accommodated my needs professionally. also, they have extra services if needed but I didn’t feel pressured to purchase any item I didn’t need. defiantly will recommend this place !

Great experience! Being a single female I am always skeptical in the car buying experience. There was no haggle in pricing. Total scam artist… tried to sell me a lemon.
Get your car inspected before you buy!
Barry was all set to sell me a car… until I mentioned an inspection.
My inspector found the car to have a sketchy history… Barry would not even let him check it out in person! Said it was «unavailable»…I test drove it 2 hours earlier!!! Barry was telling me I could buy it right then!
Watch out. They have no shame an will sell you a lemon if they think you will buy!

Hello, I have purchased several cars from several dealerships, both corporate and private. What I noticed at the big dealerships is that they tried to trick my girlfriend and i into paying retail off a back lot car. I Obviously realized by buying a used car there are going to be some issues but I don’t want to feel like an idiot.

When I saw the Honda I like I checked the website to see if the car was the right car for me. I decided the car was worth the asking price so set up a test drive. When I got to the dealership it was laid back but still held a professional atmosphere. I appreciated it because I felt comfortable the second I walked in. Barry Pulled the car out for me, I test drove it, sure enough it drove like a Honda :)
I then went through the financing process where I got a lower rate then I personally every had before. After a few DMV and Tax fees I had my keys and was out the door with my beautiful car.

Read your used auto disclosure statements and be prepared for repairs. So far I have spent over 1500 bucks on repairs. They do not do a good job of checking over their vehicles as they only have a sales department and a detail crew, no mechanics. Check every button, switch, knob, vent, oil, mechanical items, all the bells and whistles and bring your own mechanic. Here is a used car disclaimer…
The Buyers Guide must tell you:
*whether the vehicle is being sold «as is» or with a warranty;
*what percentage of the repair costs a dealer will pay under the warranty;
*that spoken promises are difficult to enforce;
*to get all promises in writing;
*to keep the Buyers Guide for reference after the sale;
*the major mechanical and electrical systems on the car, including some of the major problems you should look out for; and
*to ask to have the car inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy.

after searching for a new car for myself. It was time for an upgrade and these guys have great cars.
They didn’t do the normal sleazy car salesman techniques which I really appreciated. They told me the lowest price and we didn’t have to do the annoying «let me ask my manager» or «let me check on that pricing» over and over again. I get so frustrated with that process and how much time it takes to get to a reasonable price.
The car I got (a 2006 BMW M5) was legit. It was in mint condition, drives like a champ, and I feel that I got a great price.

I’ve only bought an used car from a dealer one time before– it was a big dealership chain and they did all the usual mind games– from «asking the manager» to writing numbers on a piece of paper and sliding it across the table, to chasing me down in the parking lot after I walked out to give me a «final offer.» This was nothing like that. The way this business works is unique– they have an office in a prominent location, but no lot. They do all their advertising online but have a separate storage unit for their cars, and bring them out to the customers by appointment.
I had just totaled my faithful Nissan a couple days prior, and I needed new wheels stat unless I wanted to find a new job. Mani picked me and my mother, who was visting, up and I immediately thought he was very odd for a salesperson– he wasn’t trying to establish rapport with his potential customers, in fact he hardly made conversation. In the end I ended up appreciating that he was all business and no flash. This is not to say he was unfriendly, he just wasn’t pretending to be all buddy-​buddy with me just to get the sale. Anyway, I looked at the car and liked it, but told him it was just out of my price range. He took me back to his office and straight up told me the exact price he could give me, or as low as he could go while still making a profit. I really liked this bottom line approach– it was indeed no-​pressure. He did try to talk me into an extended warranty, but was not pushy when I decided not to buy it. Another cool thing is that Mani said that if anything went wrong with the car or I just needed to get maintenance or parts, I could use their wholesale discount. All in all, a great used-​car buying experience!
