I have lived here for close to two years now. It is my third rental overall and my second in Portland. Positives: 1) Sherry the manager is excellent. She is very professional and goes above and beyond what is legally required(just doing what is legally required makes her better than most). Goes out of her way all the time– remind us when we’re almost late on rent, gives us fun door-hangers, always very friendly. She even changed my tire for me once when I was out of town and got hit in the parking lot! 2) They’re relatively nice, new buildings. Nice kitchen, nice carpeting, good double-pane windows, and well-insulated walls, which can help you save on heating. The master bedroom in my two-bedroom is large and has a private bathroom. 3) Great location. It’s across from the 15 bus stop. The buildings are also away from the street so it’s very quiet. There are a dentist office and chiropractor on the same block. 4) Small storage closet on the back porch. 5) Friendly neighbors. Negatives: 1) Rent goes up every year. I think we started at $ 1100 and are now at $ 1180 after two lease renewals. Probably going to get priced out in the next five years as our incomes are stagnant(stupid economy). 2) Pet rent is $ 25, I think per animal. That’s $ 300 every year for one cat! 3) Dogs are not allowed which made it very hard to find a roommate when my first one disappeared on me. Portlanders and their dogs… 4) Maintenance guy is really hit or miss. Takes forever, sometimes forgets about you, and was totally unhelpful when our stove was off calibration. The appliance guy they bring in is way better. Ask for him. Overall very happy with this place. I give workshops to renters and do the CAT renter hotline(503−288−0130), so I’ve heard all the horror stories. Makes me very grateful to call Wingsong my home.

Wingsong is a good place to live, with it’s positives and negatives. We live in a 2 bdrm 2 Bth apt. Positives: Good management. Never had any problems. Negatives: Creaky floors. Place is old, so the wooden floorboards are noisy. Our upstairs neighbors woke our son up a few times. No BBQing on the verandah. Bike got stolen from the bike racks. We stayed here almost two years and ha to break lease to move out. No problems, just couldn’t handle the yearly rent increase. All in all, if you have 1200+ to spend on an apt, then this place can certainly be good for you!

We lived there till this last summer, and when we left, the manager was professional about us breaking our lease and did not try to screw us out of our deposits, etc. so kudos. If PJ is still there, she’s an a-ok manager — hard to find when a renter!
